The lady was rude from the moment I walked in. She lectured me about forgetting to bring a mask. And then she told me she couldn't work on me because I wasn't calm enough. I asked for a place to change, and she refused. She indicated that my energy needed to be calmer in order for her to provide me a place to change. I told her I was late and trying to facilitate getting started with the massage by changing... she said I needed to sit down and be calm before I could have a place to change. Then she said she couldn't work on me so I put on my shoes on and left after five minutes with no massage after having planned my work day around making this appointment. It was like being in the twilight zone. Here I am coming to a place to relax and the very person who is supposed to be an expert in creating a relaxing environment and getting paid well for that skill is super wound and unable to handle even the slightest disruption to her perfectly controlled environment. It did not go according to plan as the receptionist (black girl) assured me that my wife wouldn't find out about the massage after her asking me for my wife's contact information. I stated "why do you need her information?, I want it to be a surprise"... Within 30 min of me booking, my wife was notified smh. I then called to see what happened ...she was apologetic it seemed but honestly felt she didn't know what she was doing or knew the systems they have in place. She stated that they would give us a free enhancement for the massage and charge us only $120 for our first visit...I show up anyway with my wife to the massage she now knows she was receiving, and the vibe was just off when we arrived. Not only did they try to charge us $160 (full price for it), she didn't even let her manager know of the mishap that happened earlier regarding the email sent to my wife and what the charges would be because of it. I also felt she was smiling and being condescending as we were in the waiting room..just not a good vibe at all. Unfortunately, the massage was painful. She pressed directly on bones, did not work on the areas I specifically asked her to focus on, and continued working on painful spots even after I asked her to stop or adjust after saying "ok!" each time. I still left 12% because I did not want to stiff her, and thought 12% was more than enough for hurting me and not allowing me to relax. (For the record, I love very deep tissue massages, and I always relax when the person knows what they're doing.) She looked at the receipt, slammed it down, furiously pointed at the tip, and yelled, "WHAT IS THIS?! 20% ONLY!!" She had me clutching my pearls. I run businesses, and I would never in a million years approach a customer about a tip, let alone reprimand them for one. The only thing I could think to say is "it's a TIP...." Aka a reflection of your service... She then tried to shoo me out with her hand, and that's when I became stern. I said, No, please explain this to me. Is 20% required here? Is it required everywhere? If it's mandatory, it should be an automatic 20% gratuity on the receipt. You cannot leave the tip optional and then get angry when someone tips less. She just kept yelling "20%!" Four years later, apparently the massage may vary, but the 20% tantrum is still exactly the same from the same lady.
