However, I'm really disappointed in the customer service and membership handling. I'm currently on my second pregnancy, and for health reasons I was not able to work out for a period of time. I kept my membership going for about three months even though I wasn't attending, and eventually decided I needed to cancel. Because you can't cancel in person, I submitted my cancellation online within their stated cancellation window. By the time they responded, it was already one day past that window. They told me they would refund the next month's charge since I'd been charged anyway. That refund never happened. I had to call three or four times, go back and forth, and still never received the refund I was promised. I've also tried calling on two separate occasions recently and no one answered the phone. In the end, I'm out about $170 for a month I was told would be refunded, on top of the previous months I kept the membership active while unable to use it. I had even told them I planned on coming back once I was cleared to work out again, but this experience has really changed how I feel about the company. The workouts and coaches are truly great, but the way my cancellation and refund were handled has been very frustrating and discouraging, especially as a long-time member and pregnant mom trying to do the right thing.

I have wanted to shower there but the floor and drains seem to always have so much debris and they just look like they haven't been serviced daily. Thank you to staff who clean! It's an important job, makes a difference and really keeps members happy! One thing I noticed is the electric hand sanitizer, quite a few don't work, they're filled but don't function. Another item is there is a non functioning hairdryer in the ladies room that keeps getting remounted to the wall. Looks good but doesn't work. My one wish for this gym and the entire chain is that they trade out some exercise ellipticals for 3 or so real spin bikes not the faux pelotons or upright outdated bikes. You can't stand and climb on these bikes. Real spinning bikes with manual tension control THAT WOULD BE AMAZING!

I had earned by 2nd Dan WTF Kukkiwon rank nearly 14 years before. My youngest sons also became interested, but my youngest remains interested. He will test for his Dan Bo, or probationary black belt, in May 2014. After about a year, I began to teach classes at Black Eagle also. In May 2013, I tested and received my 4th Dan WTF Kukkiwon rank. At Master De Cou's suggestion, I skip-tested over 3rd Dan, due to the length of time between my tests, as well as my dedication and commitment to the art. Master De Cou was one of the owners of Black Eagle at the time. Black Eagle has given me and my son many opportunities to grow. I am an amateur book collector, and since returning to Tae Kwon Do, I have purchased and sent Taekwondo books to their author to be signed. One of these authors is Supreme Master Bok Man Kim, who I was happy to know was still with us. SM Bok Man Kim is one of the original pioneers of Taekwondo. He worked with General Choi Hong Hi and Nam Tae Hi in the ROK Army in the 1950s and 1960s. He developed 15 of the 24 patterns for what would become the International Taekwon-do Federation in 1966. He helped General Choi develop the first English book about Taekwondo, published in 1965, acting as Technical Editor. He founded many Taekwondo organizations throughout Southeast Asia. He starred in two martial arts films in 1974. Black Eagle sponsored SM Kim for a seminar in Kansas in Sept 2013. At that time, I joined SM Kim's World Chun Kuhn Taekwondo Federation, along with Mr. Jeramie Swope and Master Stan Swope, and others, to learn and teach SM Kim's art. When I joined Black Eagle in 2009, they only taught Olympic (WTF) Taekwondo. Their vision for the school was to provide instruction in other martial arts as well, and have since added 3 additional arts. Black Eagle now provides instruction in Japanese Kenjutsu, Olympic Taekwondo, Hapkido, and Chun Kuhn Taekwondo. Black Eagle Martial Arts feels like "family" on most days. Like most families, there are squabbles and misunderstandings, but above all everyone is there to train, learn, and provide for the benefit of others at the school to help them grow as martial artists. I have had other opportunities to train elsewhere, and have been enticed to go elsewhere, but Black Eagle Martial Arts is home to me, and it is hard to leave home when there isn't any reason good enough to warrant that decision.
