Bethany does a great job working with my limitations but still giving me a good workout. I love the atmosphere at Optimal.

I want to start by saying the coaches are great. The workouts are challenging, motivating, and I've…read morereally enjoyed the energy in the studio over the almost three years I've been going on and off. However, I'm really disappointed in the customer service and membership handling. I'm currently on my second pregnancy, and for health reasons I was not able to work out for a period of time. I kept my membership going for about three months even though I wasn't attending, and eventually decided I needed to cancel. Because you can't cancel in person, I submitted my cancellation online within their stated cancellation window. By the time they responded, it was already one day past that window. They told me they would refund the next month's charge since I'd been charged anyway. That refund never happened. I had to call three or four times, go back and forth, and still never received the refund I was promised. I've also tried calling on two separate occasions recently and no one answered the phone. In the end, I'm out about $170 for a month I was told would be refunded, on top of the previous months I kept the membership active while unable to use it. I had even told them I planned on coming back once I was cleared to work out again, but this experience has really changed how I feel about the company. The workouts and coaches are truly great, but the way my cancellation and refund were handled has been very frustrating and discouraging, especially as a long-time member and pregnant mom trying to do the right thing.

Great coaches, amazing workouts. 10/10 recommend to anyone looking for workouts that push you to…read moreyour max in a great environment

Was a member for 15 years straight. Slowly but surely members are paying more and getting less…read more - Staff is rarely present. - Cleanliness & upkeep is subpar. It's not uncommon at all for the paper towels to be empty in the bathrooms, trash cans overflowing, etc. - Machines are outdated. Worst machine selection in town. There have hardly been any improvements or changes in 15 years aside from one new seal row machine, which I like. Many people have left because the rates have stayed the same (if not increased) and machines are deteriorating. - At any given time, multiple treadmills may not have functioning incline settings, TV settings, etc. - Music is horrible and not family friendly. The playlist at this gym should be outlawed in the Geneva Convention. Several songs with sexually explicit lyrics, a couple about prostitution. Bringing my 3 year old daughter into the gym while I workout is out of the question due to the lyrics in the music. - They took out one tanning bed to expand their daughter's nail salon that is inside the gym. I don't tan, but it's just another example of them taking things away without reducing rates or offering members something in exchange, like improved equipment. Finally the topper: don't believe them when they say "no gimmicks." - They allowed and accepted a cancellation form from my wife well in advance, then lectured me about the policy their own employee didn't follow when I inquired about why I was still being charged. - I was then charged an extra month after my contract ended for not turning in our half of the form my wife filled out. Apparently they require you, the member, to remind them how to run their business and cancel your membership, even though they have the other half of the form that could be put in a file labelled "Cancellations" and organized by month. Instead, they hope you forget so they can take more money from you without doing anything to earn it. (Well, other than contriving an unnecessarily complicated and poorly communicated cancellation process -- one that they're not accountable to following themselves -- only you, the member, are. I guess that could be considered "work" by some.) - Then I was charged YET AGAIN the following month, this time for no reason. When I called and explained, the owner asked me to leave a post-it on his computer to remind him that I've cancelled. Are you kidding? Then he charged me anyways. - My calls and texts requesting a refund have been ignored. - It's just seriously disappointing to have been a member since I was 15 years old, grown up in this gym and been around the Fleaks a lot, looking up to them, even training at Xtreme for a couple years, and this is the treatment I get over a mere $65. I can't believe that sum of money is worth it to them. Don't expect to get your money's worth at this gym!
