The two people at the front desk told me that I could choose. (I shared with them that this is the first time I'd ever considered joining a gym.) They said the trainer I had chosen would connect with me by email in a week or so. I paid for three sessions and a membership and awaited the email that never came. I reached out three times and finally someone got back to me. I responded to the email and it took a couple of weeks and another call from me to learn that you cannot choose your trainer, or maybe just this one... That took two months or more. I learned that trainer is highly sought after. Guess I just didn't fit the client profile or something. Anyway, I sort of lost my interest in joining a gym, widening my community, and getting some good fitness advice and support. I just gave up. A week after I canceled my membership I was talking to a women I know who is in her early 30's, I'm in my 50's. She told me that she just joined the Y and was there working out when a man approached her. She's lovely. After some conversation he told her he was a trainer at the Y and offered his services to her. Guess who that trainer was... Seems like he actually did have time. Do I ask for my $ back??

Everything about the equipment and surroundings shouts professionalism with regard to high -caliber bikes, headsets, selection of music; and, in addition, , it is detail-oriented down to caring about cleanliness and gauging reps to individual physical needs. REV SPINNING is the BEST KEPT SECRET of all of Burlington! Sarah is an amazing teacher. She conducts the class with not only a certain savior- faire , but also a sense of humor that is contagious, and her students just love her ! Her teaching style is such that the class adores her. If Vermont is all about health , Sarah is a shining leader extraordinaire in promoting health and fitness .

As I searched for Rev's Yelp page to write this review, I expected to see about 20 super positive ones. I was surprised to see just one. But, then again, Vermonters are just discovering Yelp, so I guess it makes sense. Rev was started about year ago by Sarah DeGray in a small space on Pine Street. Sarah has a positive, friendly personality and her spin classes are about as fun as spin classes can be. Just the right combination of challenging and engaging. She also always has great music that really motivates participants. Over the year the studio has developed an almost cult following. People try out the classes and keep coming back. It's very easy to like Sarah and the classes make you feel good. Many newbies are daunted by spin classes. I get it, I used to be the same way. When you've never done a spin class they seem pretty hardcore. The fact is, you start out slow, there is no pressure to do more than what feels good to you, and you quickly see results and feel more fit. Sarah and the instructors are the right combination of motivated and laid back. They want you to feel good about yourself and their classes. In every class people are reminded to move at their own pace. Recently Sarah partnered with Steven Little, a long-time trainer and exercise class instructor who has lived in some of the biggest cities in the US and has pioneered many fitness classes in some of the nation's top gyms. Together, they have relocated to Flynn Avenue, purchased brand new bikes and started offering other types of classes on top of Spin. If you are wanting to get into better shape and don't know where to start, I suggest you visit one of Rev's many free 30-minute classes offered throughout the week. The vibe is friendly and encouraging and soon you will feel like part of the Rev family. I can't say enough positive things about this Vermont-grown spin studio.

It's located in the brick building…read moreacross from the City Market South End on Flynn Ave. The gym is a clean, no-frills gym, which is conducive for a focused workout. There isn't a weight room per se; you work with different instructors and trainers and use the weights, TRX, cables, punching bags, etc. available. There are numerous group fitness classes for all interests from times ranging as early as 7am to 7pm: TRX, TRX Strong, TRX Bootcamp, TRX Express, H.I.T.T., F.I.T., Strength and Conditioning, Total Body ABC (Arms, Butt, Core), Box Fit, HIITBox, CoreBox, Total Body Circuit Training, ETHOS Bootcamp, Yoga. There are also certified massage therapists on site that do various massage modalities and therapies, including the Grafton Technique, trigger-point therapy, Swedish, and cupping. I've taken several classes with Anna Bohen Judge. Anna Bohen Judge is a yoga, TRX fitness instructor, and personal trainer that is one of several instructors at Ethos. I've attended her TRX and yoga and even had some personal training from her. Anna is extremely patient and kind, offering help with form and making modifications for those with physical limitations. Her TRX class is pretty awesome, using Tabatas in H.I.T.T. format as part of the program. Her restorative yoga class takes away stress and any aches and pains. I also went to massage therapist Joy Snow for help with my chronic shoulder issue and arm. She not only worked out the issue, but also explained to me why it may have happened and exercises to do in order to prevent it in the future. Ethos offers an excellent array of classes and services. There are several different membership offerings, plus punch cards that are highly reasonable. I highly recommend this gym for your fitness needs.

I ended up quitting it due to the high expense and *truly terrible* customer service (front desk). I was told incorrect information multiple times and I could not rely on anything I said over the phone being conveyed in any way regarding my account, left items, or anything else. Overall, it has good class times, locations, and instructors but crippling customer service. I really hope OT hires more serious staff. If they do, going there might be worth the extra $$.

Let me tell you what a blast this was...Hard, hard work but it was so fun! The "theory" is that if you do this workout and are able to keep your heart rate fluctuating and get into the "orange zone" for 12-20 "splat points (minutes) per workout you will burn calories for 24-36 hours after the workout. The workout itself is circuit training style with three stations and a coach prompting your moves and bumping some tunes to motivate you - the three stations are rowing, treads, and a Station for different weight based exercises. They are constantly changing up the class and making the exercises different so that you don't get bored, part of the theory is that it's constantly evolving so you stay interested. This particular facility is small but adequate with two single use bathrooms and a shower room just off the lobby. This isn't your typical gym with locker rooms, so keep that in mind - go dressed and ready to rock for class or bring a small bag and change in the bathroom before class. Odd, but it works so .. The staff is excellent they really helped us out and explained everything to us for our free intro class. Be warned that I think as part of their corporate policy they will not discuss cost, or any particulars over the phone or via e-mail they want you to come in, try a class and then give you the details - which I will say works like a charm because once you try this you just may be hooked and ready to sign up! If your looking for a great workout in a group atmosphere that's motivating, energetic and fun you should check this out ! Hope this helps !l

It's not really a traditional gym per se. I would not pay $55 a month for access to cardio machines and a weight room that only comes with dumb bells, a handful of kettlebells, and TRX straps. It was awkward when I was said, "oh, heh, heh, I guess you guys don't have barbells and stuff"; doubly more so when the trainer who was giving me the tour kind of said something about the "modern trend" being functional fitness, which is why they didn't have those things. Pshh. If I wanted to partake in "modern trends" I would go to a trendy exercise class, not to the weight room of a gym, where one expects to be able to lift heavy things.

I was referred to On Track for a lingering shoulder issue, and Brian was able to quickly assess the problems and make a plan. In a little less than two months, my shoulder has shown remarkable improvement, and Brian has also started to help me become aware of and fix some of my other mechanical deficiencies. In my opinion, the best part about Brian's approach is that he really breaks things down to find the root cause of the problem. In my case it was a lack of core stability and postural awareness, so we worked on loosening up the affected area with massage therapy, and building strength and proprioception through various exercises, many of which were new to me. Brian is also really good about being attentive throughout the session - he literally watches every single rep you do and makes sure your posture and form are correct. This is extremely helpful if you are trying to correct a bad mechanic or weak muscle group, because it can be hard to maintain the proper movement pattern without a lot of guidance. Based on my experience, I would strongly recommend On Track to anyone with a sports-related injury (nagging or serious), and especially if you are looking to invest some time and effort into rebuilding a particular body mechanic or motion that you are struggling with.

The introductory offer which I opted for, get this, thirty-nine dollars for one month unlimited yoga. Thats right $39.00. Unlimited. That is the best deal I have ever heard of for any yoga studio, and as you will see from my review this place is a spectacular yoga studio. So the deal is a steal. The regular rates are still outstanding in my opinion. The price break starts on the ten class card at $130 but in my opinion the best deal is the regular unlimited pass. For $79 you get unlimited in person and online classes. Two classes per week and you have a great deal. Three and is once again is a steal. There are numerous other options including an option which will allow you to assist LRY in reaching out to the less fortunate in our community. Since we are discussing business let's talk turkey. The website (often my least liked element of any business.) is well thought out and comprehensible even for a technophobe like me. The studio is well organized and I found the studio manager to be highly professional and approachable. She even had the aplomb to deal with me when I was upset about an issue, not LRY connected directly, and did so in a very proactive manner. Top notch business including a commitment to bringing yoga to persons who might not be able to afford or connect with the many benefits of yoga. I am fairly new to yoga but I have been to several studios. Other studios I have been to will remain unnamed because I don't want anyone to mistake this review as a criticism of them. The instruction at LRY is the best I have ever encountered. I have yet to find an instructor who is not well versed in every aspect of their particular yoga style. I will not name any of them because this would leave someone out, my memory being shady at best. On top of being obvious experts who take their craft seriously they also are multifaceted. They will bend over backwards to see you get the maximum physical emotional and spiritual benefits of yoga. If you are a beginner this studio is highly recommended for you! I would rank this studio as having top to top (no bottom here) the best instruction I have seen so far in my yoga journey. Laughing River Yoga is conveniently located in the historic Chace Mill and the studio is gorgeous. I love industrial space conversion and this fits that dynamic for me. The feel of the space is warm and inviting and one would think the prices much higher considering the luxurious space and design. I forgot to mention. During the limited duration warm weather season in Vermont you have access to classes offered at the gorgeous Burlington Surf Club location. Yoga in the midst of nature overlooking the Adirondacks and Lake Champlain, yes included in the price of the aforementioned monthly passes. Just as incredible as it sounds! In conclusion let me state three things. 1: Instruction, Instruction, Instruction. Without quality teachers a yoga studio is just a room to exercise in. 2: The prices are not just reasonable and it is impressive that they offer so much to the community and still not charge much more. I have paid $30 and up for classes that weren't nearly up to the standards of LRY. 3: The feeling of LRY if you will, is quite positive and uplifting. I have never left and felt I was let down, rather I always leave, often worn out, but buoyed by a sense of joy and presence that is most affirming and helps guide me in my blossoming yoga journey. Peace Jim

I love Laughing River Yoga. I'm especially a huge fan of Emily Garrett, one of the founders…read more I started seeing Emily for one-on-one yoga lessons when I was going through a particularly hard time of my life. I started these lessons thinking I was taking physical exercise classes that would help me strengthen and work around some rather bad injuries I'd sustained in an accident. Instead, Emily opened up a new world to me by subtly and slowly introducing me to things like mindfulness and being present. Yes, we practiced yoga postures, but it was through becoming aware of my thoughts, repetitive patterns, old habits, while taking on these postures that I began to slowly experience change. Emily is kind, patient, caring and steady. She's such a great teacher because she herself went through her own period of inner growth and self awareness (as I'm sure she'd say she and all of us are going through every day of our lives) and wants to share what she's learned with others. Every yoga teacher is on a journey. I know several in the Burlington area. It seems like one in five people you meet up here are certified. If I had to choose just one to practice with it would be Emily. She's not trying to prove anything. Yoga is more to her than a set of difficult physical postures or achieving inhuman flexibility. Relative to most yoga instructors she is wise beyond her years, balanced and aware. I think she's fabulous. I'm writing this review because I love Laughing River Yoga and Emily Garrett, but also because I saw a one star review by a woman that said some rather uncharitable things. She was visiting from out of town and went to the studio once. It's possible that she had a bad experience. We all have bad days, off days. No one is perfect. But I know with complete certainty that yoga and the Laughing River practice is extremely important to Emily and her staff and I would recommend them whole heartedly. There are several yoga studios in the Burlington area. Visit them and decide which one is right for you. I'm not practicing yoga currently, but if I were, I would go to Laughing River and practice with Emily Garrett whenever possible.
