These folks put their hearts and souls into conserving nature...& it's not free to do so. There's a visitor center, gift shop, and walking trails. Spring-fed marsh, wildflowers, wooded areas, tall-grass, and so on. You can sometimes spot an armadillo or two scurrying about (along with other critters). There's a Monarch Butterfly research field to check out too. They have learning center and auditorium too. Really beautiful way to spend a day in nature.

Everything is super maintained than most parks I've been before! I usually go with my MIL, my baby girl and our dogs to get them some exercise as well and try to do 1-2 miles each time we are here. Depending on what trails you walk/hike on, theres some with shade and some that you will hit up the blazing sun, but with fall upon it hasn't been horrible! Everyone who hikes here are really respectful with the trails/area which is such a pleasant thing as there's usually not a lot of people who do that now a days. Will of course be returning weekly to get our steps in and vitamin D!

Loved how there were plenty of signs around too talking about the animals and plants common there. Good information about the park too and didn't feel I would get lost either (good flat paths you can take). I barely saw any trash flying around either and could tell they keep this park well kept. I absolutely plan to come back here in the future when I have time. Definitely worth the visit!

The trails are well marked and maintained. They have restrooms at the entrance and the trashcans at that area as well. The main loop trail is perfect for the family hike or a chill climb with friends. They have plenty of trails that branch off and they are well marked with difficulty ratings. I appreciate that everyone I come across is friendly and simply enjoying their time with nature. This is a trail in South Texas, so I'd recommend bringing some water and sunscreen, but otherwise you really don't need much. I've never run into any animal other than maybe a bird or squirrel, but clearly there are some night creatures from the trail markings. For being inside a major city, there are surprisingly quite a few places to rest and take in the view of the hill country. Overall, a wonderful local wildnerness park!

During our exploring, we discovered a windmill and a cluster of old stones hidden just a few inches beneath the surface. We managed to wrap up 10 miles of hiking and climbing. This public park is just a block away from Main Street located in a residential area. As the name…read moresuggests, this is a perfect place to bring your kids. It was first built in 2016, but at this time appears to be going through some renovations. Lots of things for the kids to do here such as a climbing wall, a big slide, climbscapes, playscapes and swings. The entire park is surrounded by a nice 4 foot metal fence complete with sidewalks and a covered picnic table. Lots of well manicured old Live oaks to keep things shady. I got a reservation there for…read moreone of their buildings setup but wasn't able to get a return call to confirm it until 4 DAYS BEFORE THE PROPOSAL! At this time they told me "oh we can't actually do it for you cause we are a state park and we require a guard and we can't find anyone". So I am out of sorts and freaking out. I found somewhere far better and then the day came. I setup a wall of pictures at the location where I would propose a few hours later which I WAS TOLD WAS PERFECTLY OK by the lady on the phone. When I returned and walked around the corner I found... the picture wall have been removed completely!!! I found this out while streaming live. So, they screwed me twice and I am totally done with them. It was our special little place but now it's not. Don't support this place at all.
