Bench overlooking a part of the park

I have to say, visiting Walker Ranch Historic Landmark Park was so enjoyable, I have a feeling I will have to go back to explore some more. It has numerous trails to travel and a multitude of flora and fauna. I really liked the park's layout with benches, a playground, a huge pavilion and many informative signs. I was equally impressed with the sign cautioning walkers and other trail adventurers, about wild hogs, coyotes, snakes, bobcats and mountain lions. Mountain Lions!! After reading, I became intensely focused on my surroundings. I was secretly hoping to see a mountain lion, but from a very great distance. I can say with all certainty, that when I visited this park, many moons ago, it did not seem that big nor interesting enough to warrant more visits. This last visit completely changed my mind. I was really impressed at the changes that this park underwent through the years. As seems to be the case with many San Antonio parks, Walker Ranch Historic Landmark Park eventually leads into other parks, in this case Voelcker Park and Hardberger Park. This has given Walker Ranch a longer walking trail, and, really, bobcats, wild hogs, mountain lions...?! This used to be a little bitty park, and now there's the possibility of running into a myriad of wild and dangerous creatures! Clearly a totally different park.

Love this park, was able to take my baby stroller for a nature walk, then returned with my bicycle and baby rider and we had a beautiful time riding around. Great for walking and great for bike riding

A very awesome little park with a paved trail that is wide enough for walking, jogging and bicycles. The parking is small but there is a small parking lot on each side of the park. You can enjoy the beauty of this park or can use it as a trail head to Salado Creek Greenway. There is a pavilion that may be reserved and rented. There is also a nice playground for kids. The park is on the approach path for one of the runways at the airport so don't be surprised by the low over flying planes. Have fun and enjoy.

I love this park and it's super close to my house. Been coming here for years we have some secret spots for picnics and the play ground is epic. We spend hours here.

Seeing multiple families of deer left a good impression. The wide paved trails with nice greenery and a rocky creek on the sides makes this a valuable stop for anyone who has seen thee main tourist sites of the city and want something deeper.

Upon moving to San Antonio I started to look for running trails close to my apartment. Walker Ranch was less than a couple miles away so I decided to try it out. My first experience running through the park was very pleasant. I enjoyed all the scenery & deer you see while on the trails. I should say though that I did get lost on my first run, because I didn't realize that Walker Ranch fed into Phil Hardberger Park. So if it's you first time coming to this trail keep that in mind. Since the proximity of this park is so close I frequent it a lot. I'm an avid runner & now that I'm more familiar with all the trails that run through it I'm really comfortable & more sure about where I'm going, haha. Just recently I decided to take a different route through Walker Ranch & ended up at Mcallister Park. I really enjoyed that run. The scenery & being able to run under the overpasses is really cool! The neat thing about these trails is they have markers that give you specifics about your location in case of an emergency. There are also signs that direct people toward exits in the event of a flood. I really like all those little additions along the trails, but I just wish there were a bit more water fountains through out the trail instead of just being located at the exits & entrances. It would really benefit those that are doing long runs, bikes, walks, or hikes! In addition to the great trails there is also a sizable playground & pavilion, so you can take your little ones & be comfortable in the shade as well. I haven't seen any permanent bathroom installations at Walker Ranch but there are a couple port a potties off to the front of the exit.

I took my kids here to play and have a picnic. It was a blast. We played on the playground and took a walk around the trails. It is situated on West Ave, which is a terribly busy road. You just wouldn't think there is a serene park awaiting you within 1 mile of busy Interstate 281. The skinny on the trails for runners is this.... If you are planning on running any more than 3 miles, don't do it here. You will just go around in circles. I believe I had my Garmin sketch it out as about 1.2 miles around. For parents, it is a TOTALLY different scenario. This trail is perfect for kids to watch the birds, get a good walk in, and nestled in the back of the trail is an outdoor seating pavilion (small range). We pretended we were on stage and sang and danced and clapped. I love the Walker Ranch Park, but every time I want to call is Texas Walker Ranger...HMMM... Must disconnect those two ideas.

This is one of my favorite parks to 1) bring my kiddos to because of the awesome playground and trees to climb, and 2) bring my clients to photograph here! This park is so amazing on so any levels. In the early evening you can see entire herds of deer. The bridge is amazing, the trails are cool, love the windmill, the rocks to sit on, etc. AND it links up to one of the Hardberger Parks. What more could you ask for?!?!

I think this is a really cool way to learn more about the park and it's history.

I took my kids here to take a walk on the trails. We enjoyed the scenery. Only down fall for me is that their are a lot of bicyclists who tend to go really fast on these trails. So if you have little ones with you it's best to keep them at an arms reach just in case a bicyclists is coming. There is also a nice playground for the kiddos and picnic tables to enjoy a snack or a meal.

    View from on the bridge.

We LOVE this park. They have done a lot to it recently with the new playscape and upgrade to the trails. It's a great place for my daughter to ride her bike and get all her energy out. We often picnic here too, with plenty of seating in the pavilion area you are never searching for a free table!

The park itself includes multiple sections for all ages including the main playground which was designed to be an inclusive space and follows the American Disabilities Act standards for public playgrounds. A new toddler play area which is perfect for babies and toddlers. There is also the Union Pacific splash pad which is only open during certain months of the year, so make sure to check their calendar for hours. They also have a sand play area, as well as another section with small games like ping pong, chess and many more games. Overall, this garden/park offers a wide range of outdoor activities for people of all ages. I've been taking my kid here since he was born and as he is growing and exploring new areas of Yanaguana I can truly see how well thought off this park is. To all the locals that don't travel to downtown too often, I would definitely recommend giving this park a chance before winter comes. Also, for all the tourists coming with little ones that need the space to run around for a couple of hours, this is most definitely the spot for you!

There's separate picnic tables by the Kimpton hotel side that's great for a quick meal too. Lots of splash pads and shaded areas with chairs for the parents to watch from a distance. Bathrooms aren't super clean but I think there's other spots less frequented where babies/toddlers can go for a quick change of clothes. Parking is going to be a challenge on the weekends but paid parking isn't too far away.

You can go there for a quick walk or do a few laps around the half mile loop. You can also take your food and have a picnic under the shade of the trees. Parking is available on site and there's plenty of it. The entrance is on one side and the exit is on the other side. There are restrooms available on site, but I didn't use them, so I don't know if they were clean. I would definitely return when I want a short walk in a shaded park.

Whether walking/hiking/biking, be prepared to be captivated by your surroundings and also out of breath from all the movement. I can only imagine what this park is like in the summers with the hot sun scorching on you. According to some reviews, there is a tower that gives panoramic views of SA. Unfortunately I could not reach this tower as I was pressed for time. But i did get quite the workout as I trekked along the unpaved trails and soaked in the views of plants, trees, and the wildlife. Additionally, there's a covered pavilion and rest rooms at the parking area of the park. And plenty of parking. This is worth visiting when you're in the SA area; just make sure you've got proper footing and bugspray!

Locating where to find the start was a little tricky, but with the help of other locals, we spotted our way. The trial was approximately 1.9 miles one way and a mixture of paved, but more so natural, which we loved. A few areas of some steep step climbs, but nothing crazy. Lots of places for photo opps, and at this time of year, it was so pretty to see all the wildflowers blooming. At one point, we reached a high point in the trail, and it then dipped down, making us question....are we on the correct trail?! Our goal was to reach the tower with panoramic views of SA. But...just continue and follow the signage. We reached the tower and were elated. Took tons of pics and busted out some yoga moves : D Well worth the drive, and there are many other trails to explore , that I'll have to come back and check out.
