Roaring open fires, live music, attentive and friendly staff, and good food with an unusual twist - what more could you ask? This place is really a restaurant first and pub second as far as I can make out from the few times I've been there. It has a very solid live trad music tradition and has regular trad sessions.
Unusually for a trad music pub/restaurant, their chef does great Thai food, and they have a Thai menu running alongside their regular menu which contains more traditional fare. They also have a fairly extensive pizza menu. It sounds like a bit of a mish mash, and I suppose it is, but somehow it works. I love that I can order a Thai starter and then have a more traditional comfort food main course, while my other half can have a pizza. It's perfect for those days when you just don't know what you want or yourself and your other half just cannot agree on what type of restaurant you want to eat in. They are flexible to special requests, I had eaten an amazing fish pie there before but the last time I visited it was gone off the menu. When I asked about it the lady serving me asked the Chef if he could do one for me and it was no problem at all. Portions are generous and prices for a main course hover around the €11 mark, so about average for pub dinners.
Sunday lunch is very busy as they do an all you can eat Thai buffet lunch that is absolutely delicious. And all you can eat literally means all you can eat - the food doesn't finish when the buffet cart is empty, they keep on replenishing according to demand. read more
