Time, in this instance, has served only to clarify the true dimension of this establishment's fundamental failure. My initial impressions of the atmosphere were confirmed instantly: a palpable vacuum of effort, a setting that felt less like a locus of careful craft and more like a poorly curated museum of the mundane. I encountered the proprietor, whose presentation was not one of passionate distillation, but of tedious, self-congratulatory mediocrity. One approaches a purveyor of spirits expecting a commitment to flavor and quality; to be instead confronted with such an undeniable lack of artistic rigor is an experience that dulls the senses before a drop has even been poured. In a moment of catastrophic misjudgment, I decided to sample the alleged spirit they offered at the bar--specifically, the vodka. Vodka, a substance defined by its neutrality, its commitment to being nothing. Yet, in their hands, even this fundamental requirement was violently disregarded. The aroma alone was a profound warning, sharp and distinctly chemical, resembling not a beverage, but an industrial solvent--a low-grade paint thinner disguised as drinkable alcohol. The resulting liquid, far from neutral, delivered an immediate, bitter harshness followed by an aggressive burn on the front of the tongue, the tell-tale signature of utterly failed distillation. This was not merely a technical failure, but a definitive culinary offense, a crude monument to their incompetence. I was forced to abandon the glass, leaving the offering unfinished as proof of its profound unworthiness. I had arrived with the simple, foolish hope of procuring a local souvenir, a tangible, distilled memory of the coast. To imagine voluntarily carrying home a product produced under such an air--to allow this pallid evidence of commerce to sit upon my shelf--was an act of self-betrayal I could not commit. Came in from out of state on a Tuesday. The place had just opened and we were the first people in the bar. The bartender Madison was welcoming, friendly and very personable and made us feel like we were regulars. What an awesome firat day on vacation, the place filled up with other patrons at the bar and before long it was like we were all long time friends enjoying a wonderful afternoon. Madison was friendly engaging and very knowledgeable about the distillery products, one hell of a bartender and all around awesome person that made this experience one I will not forget and can not wait to return. Service was ok. Not very welcoming more like just "what do you want" with such a huge menu and potential. Id help promote of the spirits and mixed drinks. Drinks were ok none were stirred or shaken which was odd, but after I stirred them they were good. Our second round of drinks looked more like the pictures and were way more fun. The ambiance is ok very casual. Some tvs were playing somethings others were not. The music was only inside not outside. I like the place and I feel like it has great potential. Its clean, and modern outside. And a bit trendy inside. The liquor itself was good, and ill come again on another day to see if maybe it was just a busy day. read more

We stopped in while we were on vacation in the area. First thing we saw when we pull into the parking lot is an RV with a trailer taking up 8 parking spots right in front of the door. Turns out that the RV belonged to the band that was getting ready to play. We walked into the distillery and it's not terribly busy but it looked a few regulars sitting around the bar. Bogue Sound Distillery (Newport, NC) Last time we were down in North Carolina, we saw this distillery on the map and were aching to go, but ultimately ran out of time. This time when we were down here, we made a point of heading out there. We had intended to take the tour, but arrived just in time for the tasting. We went through five of their spirits: Vitzellen Vodka, Bombshell Gin, and the three whiskeys. With each taste, we were walked through the different ways to pair them in drinks. Our favorite (and one of their best sellers!) was the Salted Caramel Spirit. It is amazing just on its own, but when mixed with half and half at the tasting as well, it was outstanding. Enjoyed our time at Bogue Sound Distillery this afternoon. Thanks to the team for walking us through all their steps of production from grinding to distribution and points in between. Booked tour online but called to let them know we're running 10 min late. They worked us into their schedule and started the tour once we arrived. Tour started at 11:15 and we departed at 1:00. Will visit again once back in town. General distillery observations: 1) Craft distillery approx 3 years old starting to carve out brand loyalty in Eastern NC. 2) Not taking shortcuts in mashbills, distilling techniques and pot and column stills setup. 3) Growing with aging Bourbon and Whiskey spirits in mind (new rickhouse being built this year). Looking fwd to their further aged bourbon whiskey. 4) Barrels aging bourbon, barrels purchased from Kelvin Cooperage and Black Swan Cooperage (perhaps others). 5) Good value sipping and mixing bourbon. 6) Really enjoyed the Gin with refreshing cucumber on the palate and finish. 7) Salted Carmel and Peanut Butter liqueurs are well done, unique, and delicious. Tour - Top three PROs: 1) Seeing live production. Thanks to the staff for letting us watch and learn paired w/ friendly atmosphere. Owners are almost always drinking with you and due to limited seating .. when they are out on the porch it isn't as cute.. bartenders are great and sometimes free food options on holidays chill environment but wish seating was different more outdoor would be nice only food trucks. read more

Wow great place! Stopped in the late afternoon, so we didn't have the full experience. I'm sure it's a hopping place on a Friday or Saturday or any evening. Inside is delightful but they also have seating outside which is very comfortable. Check out their events. They have bands, karaoke, and other events planned. I had a bogue gin spritzer. It was the perfect drink for an 82° afternoon. The only problem... They should give you an ice teaspoon because the cucumber and mint in the bottom of the drink was delicious but I couldn't eat it all because I couldn't reach it! I do have some manners you know! Every drink looked fabulous so I'll be back many times. This place is a little off the beaten track behind the RV vehicle sales location on 24 but well worth finding it! read more

I really was hopeful about this business. First went a couple of years ago and thought it was pretty good! So we're back visiting and we stop in again. I have to agree with the "service is very unwelcoming" earlier comments. It's like they don't even want your business...very bizarre. And while there were people in there it definitely wasn't busy. Drinks were good but I'd rather patronize a business that actually values me as a customer. Please if you want to continue serving the public do some personality and customer service training with your bartenders. You have a good product but you need to want to promote and share it with your customers. read more

Visited the distillery this past weekend (off season), while it was chilly, and windy outside. The bar tenders were polite, attentive and knowledgeable. The alcohol was delicious, and smooth. My wife and I were staying in Beaufort for a get away weekend. We want to do something local and different so we set off to go do the tour based on a friends recommendation from a Facebook post. We arrived about 11am in Saturday morning and were greeted by a wonderful staff of a family run business. The staff are true down to earth people and cared about the business. We got to see the fully restored model T-truck. We signed up and did the amazing tour of history and the marking process. No part of how things are done from the whole local corn coming in to the building to the completed bottle going out the door in your bag or by box is left out. At the end we got to sample what is made here. Take the time to stop, relax and spend an hour with these wonderful people and enjoy a great N.C. product. Remember that your customers pay the bill that pays your salary....bartender was very uninterested in being there. Messed up 2 orders in front of us. Skipped people that had been waiting to make drinks for people she knew. When we asked simple questions that anyone would ask on a first visit she rolled her eyes and acted as if we should know the menu choices. We decided to head to the coast this morning because my husband had tried some whiskey a friend had. So we loaded the dogs took them to the beach and called to take a tour of the distillery. We were told they don't do tours on Wednesday but asked how long to get there because they would accommodate us. We arrived 30 minutes later as was greeted by a very friendly black lab. The owners wife was so sweet and called her husband who told us the amazing family history back from early 1800. Then Jimmy took us on a tour. WOW. What a place. Fascinating facts on distilling. Then out to taste test. Okay I don't do any hard alcohol but was urged by hubby to taste salted caramel whisky. Just let me say some bottles came home with us. Great place. Go if you get a chance.
