The place itself has a great laid-back beach-bar vibe however the attitude behind the bar just didn't quite match it. The 3 star rating is primarily based on that fact. We took a weekday trip to the beach at the end of July and were pleasantly surprised to find Tacklebox Tavern open late on a Sunday night and it was karaoke night too! The bar was fairly busy for a Sunday, with a fun mix of locals and travelers and an age range that seemed to go from early 20s all the way into the 60s. The crowd was friendly, the drinks were cheap, and the atmosphere was exactly what we needed for a fun Sunday night at the beach! My biggest complaint was the service. The bartenders consistently seemed annoyed and irritated, and at times it felt like simply ordering a drink was an inconvenience to them. I completely understand that working behind a busy bar can be hectic, but the attitude was noticeable enough that it took away from an otherwise really enjoyable experience and was mentioned by multiple patrons. A little more friendliness behind the bar would have made this place a home run for us.

We got two cocktails, a cherry limeade slushie and a Kill Devil Hills Pain Killer. We were told the cherry limeade was made with just cherry mixer, lime, and vodka, but it definitely tasted like it had coconut in it, and my wife hates coconut. The Pain Killer I got was acceptable, but we ordered it with our food, and it didn't come out until I'd almost finished my dinner. The vibes in the place were meh, but fine (especially if the food/drinks were good), but the tables were extremely sticky across their entire surface, so either someone sucks at cleaning, or the finish on the tables was failing and needed to be sanded down/refinished. We did get a side of sweet potato fries that were pretty dope, but they didn't make up for the disappointment of everything else. 1 out of 5 stars; do not recommend.
