Many years ago, a season pass was only $299 and a day pass was $65. Those were different times, when the mountain truly felt like a community-focused place rather than a corporate entity. Recently, I paid $110 for a lift ticket and experienced a day marked by a sense of urgency and some irritability among visitors, which made the experience less enjoyable. In three hours, I was able to make six runs, which was noteworthy given the circumstances. The snow was surprisingly good considering the effects of global warming. The parking lot was very crowded all the way up to Pioneer Lodge, and the volume of visitors was quite remarkable. The Deer Point Express lift experienced several slowdowns due to wear and tear, so I chose to avoid it. On a positive note, the guest services staff were exceptionally courteous and helpful. The ski shop staff also assisted me with a binding issue free of charge after some discussion about a potential fee. read more

Bogus basin is our local ski mountain. This ski resort first opened in 1942 and boy are we lucky to have skiing in our small city that only takes an hour to get to. Bogus Basin is a great place to learn to ski their ski instructors and Ski Patrol are incredibly well trained, kind, and qualified. I myself learned to ski at bogus basin through their passport program. A program that includes upon completion gear rental for the entire season and a season pass. Bogus basin is one of the few ski resorts that is open for night skiing until 10 PM during regular season depending on snowfall. That means our ski resort is open for 12 hours a day on average. Are food price is a little high? Sure, but not out of the question for what other ski resorts are also charging this year both of the lodges upgraded to accept Apple Pay! There's a new taco Cantina at the renovated Pioneer Lodge, and of course they serve barbecue at the outside stand. Bogus basin has over 32 runs across varying levels several black diamonds, long cat tracks and an awesome beginner area. I love our ski Mountain. I love that we have the access and ability to ski so easily and close to us. I regularly visit bogus basin at least 2 to 3 times a week during the season. Bogus Basin is a ski resort for locals of Boise. Even when discussing where to ski with a local, the local told me not to go to Bogus and that I should make the drive to Sun Valley. Lucky for me, I don't follow directions very well. They are a non-profit, and it shows in their prices. Their prices are consideribly lower than other ski areas. They are not far from downtown Boise. It took a while to get rentals during the busy week between Christmas and New Years that we visited. After standing in line to fill in the information on an tablet, they have you go to another line to pay for your rentals. After paying, there is yet another line for you to pick up your equipment. It took over an hour just to get the rentals. While waiting, I did hear the employees tell customers that they had run out of skis or other equipment. Luckily for my daughter and I, they had our sizes. After getting our equipement, we got into another line to get our lift tickets. If time is important to you, reserve everything online before getting here. The slopes were nice and full of snow. They had a nice beginner hill and hills that my knees didn't like and would not tolerate. The lift lines were long and probably the longest lines that I've ever experienced. Overall, it is a good place to ski. Just don't come here on a holiday week. Make sure you reserve everything onlne. read more

Overview: Bogus Basin ski area proudly tells everyone about its non-profit status. The non-profit vibe rubs off in service though. Expect frustratingly long lines and mind-numbing inefficiency. Service: The employees are nice but they all work like unionized workers. They're slow, not detailed oriented, and just don't care. Example 1: It takes a full hour to check in for ski lessons and pickup rental gear. The systems and processes are all backwards and optimized for inefficiency. At every stage of the process, I had to provide my birth date for data entry. The IT infrastructure at Bogus Basin is trash. Example 2: The guy who set up my skis at the rental shop didn't pay any attention to sizing the bindings. So I had to stop my ski lessons and go back and wait for someone to do the job right. Slopes: The easier slopes are super crowded to the point of being mildly dangerous because of the number of skiers. The slopes seem to be either easy or very hard with no intermediate mix. But the slopes are well groomed. Lifts: Well cared for lift areas with good staff. In fact, the lift staff were the best personnel at Bogus Basin. Parking: arrive early or expect a long walk (or if you're lucky a bus ride). Value: Primarily because of the insane inefficiency of everything, I think the value is rather poor. We traveled to Idaho for a gymnastics meet (around March) and wanted to roam a little before the coach got in town. We ventured over to bottom of the mountain and got out to walk a little. Nice area with trails, but not knowing our surroundings we didn't venture far. Nothing really special on this day. We did see a tub out in the field. That was interesting. When coach arrived we ventured back and I couldn't get the car in park fast enough as she bolted out of the car and out to the trail because there were a ton of cows. We then got in the car and drove further up the mountain stopped and caught the sunset and breathtaking view and on the way down encountered a gentle giant face to face. Bogus Basin is a non profit and it shows. Their website is quick to appear with a Google search but its navigation needs work. You can book online but the button is constantly taking you every where but the ability to book online, so I called. The wait times are very long and some employees are helpful and provide details and then some employees are lacking customer service. Then their computers are constantly glitching. We called to make reservation and because the computer was glitchy, the poor guy kept apologizing and then we lost our original timeslot. No problem, we booked later time. We booked the group beginner lesson that includes ski rental equipment. It is a good price for lessons, equipment, and lift ticket for the rest of the day. They recommend budget an hour. The drive can take 45 minutes depending on road conditions and it is a windy road, so plan extra time. This 1 hour recommendation is after you park your car because computers glitches, long lines, and slow moving employees, and crowded bathroom where only few stalls are not out of order. We booked 12:30 ski lesson and we arrived at 11:30, car parked. 11:40 we got to the checkin area but with computer glitches, we were not out until 11:58. We then went to get equipment, we checked in kiosk, then waited in line, it took 25 minutes to get our equipment, we were late to our lesson, but so was everyone else. This is located north of Boise downtown area. The drive is beautiful but it can be dangerous if you don't have the right car or tires since the road is windy and parts of it can be icy. We had a rental car and we slid on the ice patches. But the views are amazing and breath taking. Make sure to bring a print out of your booking or an electronic copy because their computer system is glitchy. We paid for two people and only one of us showed up in the system. Slow Parking lot: super packed and can be a challenge to find a spot, but there is a shuttle bus that can take you to your parking spot when needed. Arrival: It is very crowded and a challenge to find where you need to go. We finally got check-in location and computer problems again. First, they could not find the second reservation, good thing, I had a copy that was emailed to me so that I could show them. Then the scanner did not work. Then they asked for my email, date of birth, address, when I gave that to them over the phone. I think the computers are not integrated. I provided it yet again. Ski equipment: The area to get your equipment is crowded and not efficient, again be patient. Some employees are great and others not so much and move at the pace of a snail. The checkin kiosks were having issues, one computer we had to reboot. Once you check in, then you wait in line. We were in pre-paid and we still waited 20 minutes because not only do you need to get your equipment, they get you to sign the waiver at this point. Grace was our instructor. She is very patient, kind, and helpful. Really enjoyed the lesson and learned alot from Grace. The easier sloops are a bit crowded with all levels of skier, snow boarders, and it can be dangerous, so be watchful. There is tubing as well. read more

Some good summer fun for the family Not a whole ton to do but the scenic lift rides, tubing, rock climbing wall, bike the trails and the cool little ride are what's available. A lot of people were there to just hang out, spend a half day doing all those activities and just have a relaxing day. It was VERY Smokey when I went from the fires elsewhere so I didn't stay long as the air quality was not great. 51 bucks for unlimited day pass for an adult. The drive up ISNT bad at all. If you take a ski lift to the top of the mountain you have to ask for Brenda to show you the different trails. We had so much fun learning the names of the wild flowers and the history of the resort. We had two small children and she helped us navigate down the mountain safely and fast. Overall it was a 10/10 experience. She sits under the info booth on the weekends. We love Bogus Basin and have been season pass holders for several years, long enough to remember the $199 pass rates. My wife and I, along with our extended family members, learned to ski here long before it was considered "hip" and "cool" to come here. The views of the Treasure Valley and the surrounding mountain ranges always amaze. At first we understood the reasoning behind the continuous price increases for season pass renewals and daily lift tickets every year. There was a need to keep up with the rising costs of operations, new chair installations and staff salaries. The only other resorts that are even remotely close by are Brundage and Tamarack, and even those are 100 miles (or 1.5 hours) away, in good weather conditions. The 2020 season was a moment of sadness and somewhat dismay. The traffic and overcrowding that year were the worst we had ever seen. We put up with all of it, however, as that is what happens when people want to move here. Our issue was when the season was cut short due to the COVID pandemic. We were disappointed to learn that not only was there no discount incentive offered for current season pass holders to renew for the following year, but some longstanding benefits were taken away. On top of all of this came, you guessed it... ANOTHER price increase. We felt like it was a punch in the gut, as we have been loyal Bogus fans for decades. This time there was no incentive to renew. Granted, Bogus has made some upgrades and other improvements in the past couple of years and that is just peachy, but that does little to justify the expensive cost of a season pass when many of us who love skiing are already struggling to provide food on the table and pay for other necessities with the low wages here. This place definitely has potential to be a world-class resort, but to say the prices are justifiable to Brundage or Tamarack is a joke. The only thing that Bogus has going for it is the close proximity to Boise, and that's just about it. Of course so long as people are willing to pay these steep prices don't expect any changes anytime soon. read more

I understand that there are many locals who come to Bogus Basin, but for someone who was just visiting for the weekend I would've appreciated some basic manners from the ski/board staff. If someone asks for a different shoe size because their toes are curling, you don't just tell em to kick the heel then ignore them when they try to get your attention again because their toes are, in fact, still curling. If someone clearly paid for a helmet, you don't disregard the part on the paper that indicates to give helmet. And when they politely ask for a that helmet, you don't just tell them to 'take off their hat' and give them a broken helmet, then proceed to ignore them again when they ask for a different one. Unfortunately I was not able to experience this beautiful ski resort to the full extent because my feet were in pain all day and I had to take long breaks after every slope. I thought I was just being weak but then later realized it was the boots/equipment not fitting correctly, because I when I went to a different ski resort the next day it was a completely different and more enjoyable experience. I'm not usually the one to write negative reviews, but I'm sorry - this 1 star is mainly for Buddy. The other staff was decent for the most part. However, customer service can overall be improved. We tried to reserve spots for lessons and called/left voice mails at least 4 times since opening. Once we got to the resort we found out that the class was full and had to wait until afternoon for lessons. If we had known this ahead of time, we would not have wasted money for a full day and would have only bought half-day tickets. read more

Disappointing yet again. We arrive a little after 12:00 today (Sunday March 6) to find no parking spaces. We were going to cross country ski. Usually you can find a spot in that area; however today the lot was packed and Bogus was allowing downhill skiers to park in the Nordic area. My car was full with four people. I've been a season pass holder for 14 years. I love supporting my local mountain but beginning to feel like it doesn't care about me. They desperately need to create a shuttle system that runs hourly (at least on Saturdays and Sundays) and charge for parking to encourage people to carpool! Give free parking for a full carload. Bogus is a great hometown mountain and I want to continue supporting it but it certainly isn't fun when you can't even park. If not for this parking situation It would get a five star. read more

My first visit to Bogus Basin. The road up to Bogus is not for sissies. It's got many twists & turns and they are not kidding about 25-20 miles an hour and having 4WD or chains. It was sunny day for my drive up. Parked at the J.R. Simplot lodge. I had no issues with getting my ski rentals. It was a pretty painless process. The day lockers are in the lodge with the season pass holder lockers. You need to get quarters from the ticket office. Hopped on the Deer Point Express quad and enjoyed a beautiful day of skiing on some nicely groomed runs. Skied all the lifts except Bitterroot which wasn't open. Enjoyed a light lunch at the lodge and the fire pits out on the plaza. This is a skier's mountain, nothing fancy just a nice day of skiing. We could only be so lucky to have a local ski area like Bogus. I was disappointed by the small ski shop at the resort. read more

We have skied here for the past four years and have been very happy with everything the resort offers. There has been much improvement in the past two years as the resort added a large seating area with fire pits, some food vendors, and snow making equipment. The restrooms also seem cleaner than in the past. The resort is pretty fast in grooming the trails, lifts had been hardly ever broken or fixed in timely manner. The ski school is of a good quality but as any other school it depends on the quality of individual instructors (our kids had 5 good instructors out of 6 total). One problem is that a child is not allowed to make up a lesson even when they notify the school several weeks prior that they have to miss a class. The most beautiful trail, in my opinion, is Upper Paradise. It overlooks the local mountains and is very fun to ski on. Lucky Friday run is labeled as black diamond on the sign next to the run but is actually double black diamond on the map and in reality (I made the mistake of venturing on it this past weekend and will not be repeating it any time soon). Drop off zone is rather small and people often stay longer than the allowed 10 minutes. They should have someone who monitors this. Overall, we are very thankful to have this resort so close to our home. read more

This review is based off of night skiing, I was very impressed. I grew up skiing Jackson and Targhee since I was two. Both of the mountains are very different but my favorite out of both was Targhee. The feeling I get when skiing Bogus is the same feeling I got with Targhee. I enjoy "ma and pop" hills and although Bogus is far larger than a "ma and pop" hill it still feels small. I love it. There are some slow oldie but goody lifts while there are high speed quads. There are short runs and then there are longer runs. I am slow and I enjoy my turns so all my runs are long. :) I win! Bogus has an older foundation. Meaning it isn't all glitzed out like that of other ski resorts. Their locker rooms and bathrooms are older, their snack bar and bar are not fancy but they are perfect and rustic. We stopped at the upper lodge for a burger and beers and I was surprised that we could actually afford to eat. A burger was $6.50. Most resorts now are overpriced and it costs about the same amount to eat as it does for a lift ticket. Way to go Bogus, trying to keep it affordable. Overall, I am excited to experience more of my town hill under the shiny sun. My first impression was off the charts positive. We are so lucky to have a place to take some turn. I went to Jackson's for three Aquafina waters and received $10.00 off each of our lift tickets. Great deal! Snow was great! The lifts had music pumping and I thoroughly enjoyed the energy that was flowing through the loud speakers! read more

She ignored me when I was asking for help on directions and then she proceeds to use foul language and swear words for no reason at all. This review is based on summertime activities. We visited in early July, but it was still a pretty chilly day in the low 50s, plan for it to be colder up there. We packed a lunch and ate at the tables, but they do have a spot to get food and drinks. They also had some heaters on near some of the tables which was nice. Everyone I was with went on the mountain coaster and loved it (although you might not think my mother in law liked it from the photo I included haha). I wasn't able to try it out due to being pregnant. I did think some of the summer activities were a bit pricey. We thought about riding the ski lift, but decided against it when it was $15/person. The drive up the mountain is very scenic, but it's a winding road with lots of very steep drop offs with not many guard rails. I would be really nervous to do that drive in the winter time. read more

We were so exited to ride the mountain coaster. The lady giving directions was beyond rude, it was awful. We paid $30 for a ride that lasted maybe a 3min & we could only ride it 1x. If you charge that much at least let people ride it 2x. The staff was all incredibly rude & seemed like they did NOT want to be there. It very pretty unpleasant. read more

This ski resort impressed me thoroughly. I came here for night skiing on a Saturday in late February. We were nervous when there was no snow on the drive up at 5,000ft elevation and there were caravans of cars coming down from the mountain. Turns out they were just daytime skiers and snowboarders that were heading out to make room for the night skiers. The snow here is really well maintained. Even at the end of the season, they did an excellent job of keeping the snow manicured and smooth. The workers at the lifts were always smiling and just excited to see people enjoying the slopes. My favorite slope was called Showcase. It was the widest (I'm a beginner in every sense of the word) but since it is a blue square, it still had enough slope to keep you going as fast as you want. 4 different black diamond runs fed into it along the way. It was fun to see the highly seasoned skiers zoom past me. There seemed to be more boarders than skiers at this resort. They tend to keep to the slopes with ramps and jumps though so I didn't have any issues with collisions. While small, this resort still has a lot to offer. Like gorgeous 360 degree views from the top of a couple of the lifts. I didn't even attempt the slopes at the back of the mountain, but I hear they are spectacular. read more

Very fun!! I think Bogus is one of the best ski resorts I have been to and is very fun for my kids too.

I feel really lucky to live and work 17 miles from a ski hill. I get a lot more skiing in than when I lived in New England. Yeah so it is a small area and you have to ride cat tracks to get anywhere. But at least they have mid-winter powder conditions on April 4! There is no work out that you can do that is a substitute for skiing. You just have to go do it. The back side is the hot spot. Lots of pow shots through the trees. My favorite find today was Wildcat. Mary's Ridge was a little choppy. Paradise is fun and has a great view. Night skiing is over for this season, but when they have it, it's a great low cost way to get a few turns in. Moonlight on a full moon night up in the snowy mountains is an amazing skiing experience. They have a good little nordic set of trails and a tubing hill if you are not into skiing or boarding. There are little terrain park areas that a fun if you are young and made of rubber. The best deals are the season passes if you buy them early. Also the passport program is a great deal for first time learners. This is a super family friendly place where you will run into your friends and grab a beer. Just be careful driving. That is one windy road to get up there. They have bus service too if you want to skip driving. read more
