The restauraunt itself has a rustic beach house feel scattered with kiwi nik naks and some unfortunate reminders of their brilliant rugby team. The drinks menu featured kiwi inspired cocktails, beer(bottled and on tap), cider and wine. The cocktails were a little hit and miss. The dinner menu contained meals inpired by ingredients sourced from New Zealand and Australia. We decided to order the prix fixe 2 courses for $35 or include dessert for $45 which was great value. I also liked the sound of the kina and prawn arancini with kataia fire mayo. Kina being Maori for sea urchin. This was a tasty morsel, with a crisp fried outer crust with a tasty risotto filling with nice flavour and the chilli mayo to add a bit of a spicy kick. For our entree we shared the cuttlefish as well as the king fish sashimi with tomatillo. I was happy to see that they had cuttlefish on the menu, although similar to squid and octopus. I prefer cuttlefish especially if it is well prepared. The cuttlefish in this instance was well prepared. It was tender with delicate flavour. The chilli, garlic, lime dressing and squid ink mayo enhanced the flavour. A great starter and share plate. The king fish was also a good option, nice and fresh. As this was a cold winter night we both decided on the slow cooked meat options for our mains, to help warm us up. I had the venison stew with corn bread to mop up the sauce. This was a hearty meal with rich flavour. The kiwis like their lamb nice and tender and that is how it was delivered. This was absolutely delicious, it was literally melt un your mouth. 16 hours slow cooked lamb shoulder served witb carrot and brussel sprouts. Up there with the best lamb dishes we have eaten. We also shared the jelly tip with white chocolate mousse. A nice way to finish the meal, light fluffy white chocolate mousse filled with jelly. Good food, in a relaxed casual evironment and for a reasonable price. Make sure you book, as this place is popular. Service is incredibly fast, which I love!

The cuttlefish was so amazingly tender and flavourful. The duck fell apart at the touch of your fork and the beans underneath was so full of flavour. It is an inviting place, looks quite formal and has a fully stocked bar and its' quite large in size, perfect for a date or dinner with friends The owner has taken over this place a year ago and worked hard to develop the food and service at this venue. He was very welcoming and introduced the menus on offer. This would also cater for a wide range of people as there are a wealth of vegetarian foods, vegan options as well as being able to cater for those with lactose intolerances. So much food, everyone would like something. They also have very reasonably priced set menus. Being in a group we had the 'Seasonal Sampler'. At $50 a head, this was great value. I liked the sound of everything in the set menu which isn't always the case at some places. We began with Peking Duck Pancakes with a traditional garnish and hoisin sauce, roll your own, and these are always a crowd pleaser. Followed by a balsamic baked beetroot salad with frisee lettuce, baby spinach, nashi pear, chia seed and apple cider caramel vinaigrette. Then came this amazing serving of huge oysters deep fried with pickled ginger and topped with wasabi mayo. We all normally prefer natural, but in this instance the batter was light and crispy with juicy oyster inside and I enjoyed it a lot. We then had curried cauliflower arancni which wasn't your traditional arancini, but rather sitting in a bowl of spiced spinach leaf gravy , mustard, chili and yellow split peas. This had a nice hint of curry flavour. Following this was panfried haloumi that was piled high with watermelon, coriander and mint salsa, chili oil drizzled all over. We were sure not to get many photos so that it was not cold and rubbery. The haloumi was melted well and the saltiness of the cheese combined well with the watermelon. The main dish was some lovely pieces of panfried atlantic salmon that was cooked nicely in a thai green curry sauce, coconut mango rice (which was one of my favourite things) and a tamarind dressing. This was followed by a harissa basted chicken, served in strips with a smoky eggplant salsa , whipped feta and yoghurt dip. Tender chicken with a delicious sauce. One of the standouts. I'm not personally a fan of kangaroo normally, so I skipped this, but my husband and the others really liked it. It was perfectly cooked (which is hard to do) and served in slices, nice and tender with a blue berry and red onion chutney which accompanied the meat well. Another great dish was the roasted crushed chats with fresh herbs and seasoned salt. They were so crispy, I kept going back for more. To finish we had the bitter sweet baklava and grand mariner truffle ice cream. Baklava awesome add chocolate, even better. We also got to try the chocolate and cherry crème brulee, different but very nice. Pulled the Matt Preston spoon out ;) spoon cracked through the top layer perfectly. I'm keen for another visit and recommend you all go too!

I went with three friends and EVERYTHING sounded amazing on the menu. In hindsight we probably ended up with a few too many dishes (even after running our choices by our waitress, who assured us we would be fine)- however, the price point is a lot lower than Otto so I wasn't as upset as I would have been had it been been Otto pricing. The menu is designed for sharing so share we did- a goat cheese salad, truffle butter and bread, friend cauliflower, perfectly roasted baby potatoes, a burrata with honey and currants, the most amazing tuna ceviche with avocado and zoodles and finally a great sirloin with blue cheese butter. We were STUFFED by the end, but the bill only came to $50/head. Larder is also BYO which is a huge plus but they do charge $8 corkage per person, so if you're only having a glass then best to just order wine there. All in all a great gem !

For the next three months during winter, one third of Otto's Woolloomooloo restaurant will be transformed into European style eatery, The Larder. Whilst still enjoying the glorious view at The Finger Wharf, you can dine at the Larder for a fraction of the price of Otto, and best of all, it's BYO with $5 corkage. Though there may be no white tablecloths and the menus may be printed on paper, it still feels rather luxurious to dine at The Larder. The menu is designed to be shared and plates are priced from $10 - $25. That's a bargain price for food coming from the Otto kitchen! Dishes change regularly, depending what is in 'the larder'. Ms C and I dined on a still Friday evening and we enjoyed: *Salmon Tartare *Potato rosti with roasted capsicum, smoked eggplant, feta and rocket *Braised Beef cheeks on polenta - a special that night *Quinou salad with haloumi & green salad The food, as you would expect, is fine dining quality, with the offerings a little less fancy, and a little more rustic. Perfect for the winter weather. Oh, and don't worry if the weather's a little chilly - those heaters work a treat. The take away menu advertised smoked salmon scrambled eggs for 6.50 so I was quite excited that Sydney had maintained its low prices in comparison to Melbourne. However the dine in menu was completely different and my smoked salmon eggs Benedict on crusty stale baguette (half a baguette mind you) was 17.50. Ermagerd. The melted chocolate was gone and our waitress could barely speak English. The eggs Benedict were average. Service poor. And price disappointing. Old is not gold people!

My spanner crab linguine with parsley and lemon is fantastic, the linguine, nice firm pasta tubings. Dessert must be tried after that great start and I opt for a simple lemon tea cake and flat white. The lemon cake is wonderful and containes rind that does not have have too much tang. As we pay our bill we notice all the office workers queueing for their takeaway baguettes, its a busy and buzzing place with a selection of food for everyone. Beacause of its location it is ideal for corporates and international visitors.

The dining room itself was a lot more casual than expected, but modern and inviting nonetheless with green leather banquettes, high ceilings and an open kitchen. Service was efficient yet friendly, our waitress describing their specials in detail and encouraging a shared starter of twice-baked gruyere soufflé with rocket side salad (great tip!). Main courses were just as delicious - I sampled a grilled snapper fillet atop finely sliced fennel, sautéed down into a slightly sweet yet aniseed sauce with fresh peas and baby steamed clams, while the scotch fillet also came to the table smothered in creamy caramelised onion, a million layered potato galette and well-seasoned witled silverbeet. Dessert was simple but offered pretty generous portion sizes - we tried the rhubarb frangipane tart and chocolate parfait with macerated strawberries - but I liked that their menu also offered petit fours at $2.50 a pop if you only felt like a little mouthful of something sweet (the spiced marshmallow, a particularly tempting offer).
