The BahnMi sandwich i had at the Downtown Boise Co-op is the best I've had in Boise. The pickled veges were plentiful and just the right amount of spice, ie pickle. The pork was great. I would have liked another slice, but it was adequate. Overall a repeat for lunch. Its been awhile since I had this sandwich in VietNam, but its close enough to rave about. What a find this place is! We're renting an Airbnb just a block or so away, and the house manual recommended the co-op as a place to get coffee or shop for food. We've visited every day (twice some days) and are so impressed with the variety of vegan food and groceries, the produce section, and the deli. Everyone we've interacted with has been so friendly, and the environment is just loads of fun. I really wish they had something like this where we lived! read more

I have been coming to the Co op for years. I have enjoyed shopping at both locations. Every time I have shopped here it's always been a pleasurable experience. I wish I could have said that about today. Feeling under the weather today so I stopped in to grab the local honey and a bag of lemons. It's one of the local honeys i really enjoy that they sell. We grabbed a couple other goodies and headed to the register. Everything seemed to be going good. I was greeted. The cashier started ringing me up. I forgot to write the honey code on the container. Honest mistake but every other time I have gone in the cashier knew he code. I didn't think it was going to be a big deal but I guess it was. The cashier was so rude about it. "It's common curiosity" he said. Paid the guy and he didn't even bag up my stuff. Just pushed all my stuff to the back of the counter and didn't even look back twice. I bagged up my own stuff and went on my merry way. This kind of service is humorous really. We are all locals trying to support each other. This kind of behavior is not needed from one local to another. I know next time just to do self check out. read more

I've been a regular at the Boise Co-Op for the past 5 years. Each year, just about every product has increased in price, anywhere from $.50 to $3 in some cases. Some of the non-local products, I can understand due to supply chain stuff, but for example, locally made breakfast burritos have gotten noticeably smaller and cost more, locally made vanilla bean cheesecake used to be $9.99 and are now $12.50... same product. There is an ego here I don't support and will take the few thousand dollars I spend on groceries each year elsewhere. read more

La Fermière is my favorite yogurt company. They are a family-owned French yogurt company that has been around since 1952. They recently added a line of French Desserts. The Boise Co-op in Boise, is the only place in Southern Idaho that is carrying them. They have three of the five flavors. I've tried all three. I started with the one that I expected to be my least favorite, CRÈME CARAMEL, because I don't particularly care for caramel. Surprise! Surprise! It turned out to be my favorite of three flavors. The Vanilla and Chocolate flavors are good, but they don't begin to compare to the Caramel flavor. La Fermière's CRÈME CARAMEL is one of the best things I've eaten in 2024! French Crème Caramel is a vanilla custard that's baked on top of a layer of caramelized sugar, served upside down with a caramel sauce pouring over the sides. It's somewhat similar to Flan in flavor, but closer to a crème brûlée in texture. La Fermière's Crème Caramel incorporates the caramelized sugar/caramel, into the vanilla custard. The Boise Co-op in Boise also has the most flavors of La Fermière yogurt. The second best location is the Boise Co-op in Meridian, which has yogurt, but none of the desserts. Highly Recommended!!! Don't sleep on the Co-Op!!!! We rented a house right behind it and it was like winning the lotto. We literally went over every morning to get something delicious from there! Great lil' coffee shop, baked goods, local goods, beer selection and seasonal items. I was in love! I said if I move there, I'm def getting a job there. The store has a fantastic selection and I always enjoy my experience. This review is for the hot food bar. I make a create your own sandwich a few times a week and the ridiculous lack of consistency in quality is very frustrating. I order the exact same sandwich and ingredients every time, and it's like a completely different taste each time. (The village location is much more consistent) Today the sandwich was burnt had almost no veg or cheese and was half the size of one I bought a few days ago. Being able to grab a sandwhi h on the go is a huge convenience, which is why I keep trying I guess. read more

I absolutely love this place. I used to come here when I visited Boise for work about 15 years ago. I recently had a chance to come back during the front country portion of a backcountry wilderness trip. I was so glad that this place is still here and it is even better than before. The smoothies are delicious. The breakfast burritos are delicious. They have an amazing selection of produce. I love the soaps. The local kombucha is rad. the vibe and ambience are exactly what you would expect at a cooperative grocery store. The servers are very friendly. I was stopped at a red light and noticed the Boise Co-Op. I quickly hit my turn signal and changed direction when the light turned green (don't worry, I was the only one at the intersection and didn't cause any traffic trouble.) There's a large parking lot, so I easily found a spot, grabbed my reusable bag and went inside. It's a grocery store. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but with a name like co-op, I guess I'd pictured something else. I wasn't disappointed, especially when I found the fresh made salads. I grabbed a few items and made my way to the checkout. If I lived in the area, I'd definitely hit this one up regularly. read more

Visiting the area and our host noted that the Co-op was near by! So out the door and instead of a right turn we went left and got a wonderful tour of Hyde Park! The Boise Co-op North End was clean - all of the food cases were clean and everything looked wonderful. Our cashier and I'm sorry I cannot name him was so nice & his customer service was spot on. Fantastic selection of high quality foods, beers, and wines. The meat selection is a little limited, but looks to be good quality. This place is high priced. The co-op is well worth it if you've got a specialty item you love and can't find anywhere else, but if it's anything you can find anywhere else - you will definitely find it for a lower price. However, we always sense an air of arrogance and disdain from the employees and patrons against customers who aren't super crunchy, wearing burlap or aluminum-free deodorant. It is with very sad heart that I tell people the absolute truth. They're lying about the ingredients that they're using to make the food at the Boise Co-Op. Labels will say one thing, but the ingredients that are used in the kitchen are very different. They also justify up charging vegan options, when the ingredients don't justify the increase in price. If people really knew what was being used to make the food that they're buying, or that they were being charged for air, they probably wouldn't shop here. read more

Anyone in Boise who has shopped here...KNOWS it's a great store. I'm specifically talking about the downtown location. The village location is ok. It's seems very national chain-like. The staff are stuck up vs the downtown one where...when you go to the Co-op, you envision a certain kind of person and that's who works here, haha! Hippies basically. Village location is so boojie as are the people. Sure, it's a nice store, but gimme the downtown one ANY. DAY. over the village one. Both stores are SUPER pricey tho. That's one thing to keep in mind. It's like shopping at Whole Foods dirty, hippie brother or sister hahaha! Only neither Co-op is actually dirty lol. Downtown one is old...and that's one of the things i love about it. It's lived in. They have amazing produce. That's really what I go there for. Oh, also, I'm a whore for a good snickerdoodle! And they sell INCREDIBLY TASTY snickerdoodles hahaha! They also sell a lot of homemade, organic soaps and I love picking up some of them. Again, pricey. We tawlkin like...$7 dollhairs PER bar of soap. I won't write a novel for this one, like I do others, haha! Basically, if you live in Eagle/Meridian, obviously the Village location is where you'll go. That store seems like it was built for the snooty Eagle folk, hahahahaha! Jk, jk! I have a lot of friends who live in Eagle lol. And if you live in Boise, you know the Boise store is better. The vibe overall is just better. I am big fan of the Co-Op really a big fan. There's so much to get into whether you are GF, Organic, Vegetarian and Vegan. The downtown location has been around since the early 1970s but the Village location has a welcomed addition especially after Rosauer's closed. Not so much for Rosauers but for their Huckleberry Dept. Here's some helpful tips about either Co-Op. If possible be a member, it may not seem like it matters but there's all sorts of specials, offerings, coupons and deals. Know when they are and how to use them There are daily deals. Monday - Friday. Some it is for the Deli, Hot Bar, Pizza. Etc. make sure to check out the flyer Cooking classes. Yeah I know Sur La Table has them but have you checked out their prices lately. Ouch Local and hard to find speciality items. Whether it is Gaston's Bakery goods vegan cheese from Greece. Looking for a sparkling wine you had a Bodovino ? The Co-OP's wine department can order it. Damn. We haven't even talked about coffee, teas and the rest. So here's what I suggest. If you haven't been inside just go and look around. Maybe you'll find something maybe you won't but it'll be adventure each and every time. Personally I can't wait until my next expedition. read more

Recently removed as part of a front spruce up, it is worth memorializing the phrasing here since since it seemed just right.. While we're on phrasing, to riff on the old Amex slogan... ...MEMBERSHIP HAS ITS' BENEFITS: You don't need to be a Co Op member to shop here but, really, if you Co Op shop just once a month why wouldn't you? It costs only $65 to join, a one time fee with no annual dues. But if you join on the first Friday of any month you get a $15 discount and membership is only $50. Why one would join other than a first Friday, I know not. Members are entitled to periodic specials. Better yet, once a month on any day of your choice you can receive a 10% discount on your entire order. You will very quickly recover that $50 membership fee! On that same day of the month you also will receive a 10% discount from any purchases at the Co Op Wine Shop or the Co Op Pet Shop just across the parking lot. The 10% off the Wine Shop discount one day a month sure comes in handy for my hubby and me. Even if those other two shops don't beckon to you, there are... ...SO MANY THINGS TO LIKE HERE: PEOPLE: Friendly staff, including the young woman checker who went out of her way when it was evident I was a stranger in a new land on my first few visits to talk to me each time, make you feel welcome. PREPARED FOODS & DELI: They list local purveyors used in their dishes, all of which are made in house. (Try that at Whole Foods...you won't find it.) This is the only market where I trust the take away and enjoy it. PS to my omnivore, vegan, vegetarian and paleo friends, there are an equal number of great options for all. CHEESE: A very good selection of domestic and imported and a super helpful woman, who also once lived in my former home city, works there who always has a wonderful tip or two. . PRODUCE: Leans almost all organic, has local vendors (like Purple Sage and Peaceful Belly) and carries things no one else does, like the fresh Emmett grown strawberries that went into October this year. Their seasonal offerings can't be beat. This week they had two kinds of fresh kumquats, most groceries carry none at all, and beautiful escarole. BAKERY: Local breads, like Gaston's wonderful Pouichette and Acme's teriffic breads of all kinds are sold here. Their in house bakery has the most mmmmmarvelous ginger cookies and lots of other good things. They have Wildflower Bakery treats, like baked apple cider donuts or blueberry pound cake on a display. They also have Boise's own Guru donuts. PACKAGED FOODS: In addition to staples, like canned tomatoes, in brands we use, the Co Op always seems to have what I'm looking for that is hard to find elsewhere. Pomegranate molasses, for example.. They also have a great selection of top end, Italian made, speciality shape pastas. My husband is a very happy guy that they have Willamette Valley Fruit Growers frozen berries in the freezer section in 2 pound bags. DAIRY: The dairy section is a bit small, but they have yogurt and buttermilk which does it for me. MEATS $ FISH: The meat section is also a bit small, but what they do have is organic and humanely raised and the butchers there know their stufff. The fish selection is even smaller and we normally find ourselves at Reel to buy ours. TUNES: Music on the sound system is so great it makes me want to sing and dance as I shop. INSIDE SEAT TO EAT: There is a nice area inside where you can sit to nosh. Seating is both at high counters and standard tables so accessible to everyone. THIS N THAT: 1) PARKING: Can be bumper cars even though the lot is good sized. Proceed with caution. 2) ACCESSIBILITY: From accessible parking in the door and throughout ample aisles, all is good. 3) NEIGHBORS: The Co Op Wine Shop is unarguably the finest in Boise. It may even be the best wine seller we've ever had the fun of shopping at and it is just across the parking lot. See those reviews too. Richard's Cafe Vincino two doors down from the Wine Shop is a wonderful place for lunch or dinner. 4) MERIDIAN ON THE HORIZON: Co Op is opening a second location in Meridian. Fandom status reinstated. Firstly, because they seem to have strengthened their inventory (if not quite the Ollivanders of all things obscure, organic, and gourmet--closer to the mark than right after the renovation). Secondly, because their coffee bar slings a decent mocha. It's reasonably priced and made with quality ingredients (they use their all natural bottled milk). Other notes: they also have a decent selection of men's shaving supplies for those who shave the old fashioned way (with a brush and either a straight razor or safety razor). They carry brushes and they have cake shaving soap (they don't carry the shave cream, though). They have one brand of shaving soap, Mathair Earth, which is completely local (made right here in Boise!). It's called "Whiskey Woods" and it smells spicy and fabulous to boot! And, of course, one thing that never changes is the Boise Co-op employs some of the nicest folks around. Get to it! read more

The Boise Co-Op has a long tradition in Boise, going back to 1973, when they were tucked behind the El-Ada community outreach center. And their intermediate location on Hill Road and Harrison. They have a good selection of natural and organic products and the staff is very friendly. I hesitate giving them a fifth star because of the way they handled last year's Salmonella outbreak in their deli. I thought they handled the situation poorly from a public health standpoint and tried to downplay the seriousness of a very serious situation. Later, they appeared to take the proper steps in completing a deep clean and making the changes needed to ensure this doesn't happen again. Overall, it's a good place to go. read more

Love the north end co-op: Employees are upbeat and friendly, monthly sales deals are great and usually well marked, and, the Co-op's response to the pandemic and shopping has been fantastic. Their online ordering is good, although I am disappointed that they can't figure out how to make the pick up interaction less time consuming. For ex, you drive up, call the desk and tell them the color of your stall sign. So far, great. Then a clerk comes out to retrieve your credit card. She may return with your card and groceries,or it maybe just your card. In which case a third round trip is necessitated. Seems inefficient. Otherwise. I was just visiting from Phoenix, AZ in November of 2019 so unfortunately not a member of this coop. But I was with someone who is and she had nothing but great things to say about it. There was a good selection of produce and other items. Everything looked fresh and what we bought tasted so good. A lot of stuff here is local which is how it is done! I even discovered some new brands I loved that they do not sell in my state (as far as I know). It is a clean coop, family friendly, and the people scanning and bagging your groceries are the happiest I've ever seen. The cost of membership and store prices are not for everyone though. read more

For the quality of food you find here, the prices are actually pretty reasonable! I don't buy groceries here all that often, but when I do I am always pleasantly surprised by the total on my receipt being way less than I anticipated. With that said, I typically only buy meat, supplements, grab-n-go food, and ice cream (lol) from here (I have different grocery stores that I go to for different things). Their hot food bar is somewhat hit and miss. If you go right when everything has just been put out, you've lucked out! I typically stop in here during my lunch hour, which means that this section is often picked over before I get to it. Their salad bar is decent but is also rather skim in what it offers - not my favorite. Where they are rockin' it: They have plenty of other fantastic selections in their hot food section of the store- - Rice bowls- Yummy, filling, and fairly cheap.) - Juice/smoothie bar- LOVE THESE, again very reasonably priced, especially in comparison to what you pay at other juice bars) - Burritos- Tasty but almost too filling, I suggest sharing one of these with a friend! - Sandwiches- Their turkey on ciabatta is everything you could ask for and more when it's past your lunch time and you're hangry. read more

I am obsessed with sparkling water and this store had an epic sparkling water selection. Along with many other great vegan goodies and products. I got some vegan gummy bears for my flight. If I would ever decide to move to a city for a single business - it would be Boise Co-Op - this was the best grocery store I visited in over 1500 miles between here and Cleveland. Loads of local and organic produce, fantastic selection of bread, huge variety ready-to-eat foods, extensive supplements section with a very knowledgeable employee (she was even taller than I!). Prices were competitive with Whole Foods, if a bit lower on a lot of things - but definitely a much higher quality in produce than your average Trader Joe's. The store also was featuring the work of local glass artists with some amazing pieces hanging in the windows catching the early sun during my visit. Parking lot seemed a bit crowded but people didn't seem as competitive as at some parking lots (yeah, Berkeley Bowl, I'm talking to you!) - not a single horn was honked and people seemed oddly patient. I was one happy vegan walking through here! Great store - hope to stop in there next time I'm going through Boise to visit the awesome Sawtooth Recreation Area. read more

Holy cow this place has an amazing burrito bar!! For starters they don't charge extra for avocado which is highly unusual. My burrito was huge and tasty no complaints at all. From what I hear this place recently just got in some trouble for salmonella, but my oh my they have come back strong.
