I hate to come here and say this but if you're black/brown, this is not the space for you. Employees were rude. They watched me wait at the checkout stand and when a young guy finally came to help me, he didn't say a word to me threw everything in a bag and then threw the bag up on the counter like I wasn't good enough for his time or presence. It was disheartening and I wouldn't want anyone else to go in here excited to buy and support a small business and then be disappointed and disrespected the way I was. The European Delicatessen is truly an Eastern European Delicatessen. You will not find grocery items from Spain, France, England, or Italy but you will find staples from Romania, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Hungary, and Poland. When I lasted visited I was looking for French holiday chocolates. Obviously, I didn't find any. More specifically, the French holiday chocolates are called Papillotes. Papillotes are wrapped like little presents and have decorative ribbons and tassles at the end. We did find similar chocolates in the bins by the meats and cheese. Those chocolates were good not as good as French or Belgium chocolates but its as close as we're going to find in the Boise area. We have not purchased any other items but perhaps when my Mom is back in March, we'll purchase some Mortadella for her to try. Save yourself a trip. Avoid at all costs. 1. The name needs to be adjusted to "Eastern European Market" - as you will only find products from Central/Eastern Europe (Ukraine, Russian, Poland etc.) 2. Products are frequently outdated and/or pass their expiration date but still being sold (most recently cottage cheese which literary had mold on the inside). 3. A lot of products aren't identified in English so better brush up on your Russian. 4. Packaging on many items is highly questionable - see enclosed poppy seeds plastic container - which had NO inside seal with flimsy top that you lift and can touch the product - I do not believe that is even legal 5. You will never be able to exchange/return items - even though it does NOT say "final sale" on the receipt 6. I am writing to share a very unpleasant experience we had at your store on March 8th, International Women's Day. We encountered a tall, elderly male cashier with gray hair who was extremely unprofessional. When we pointed out that an item scanned at a different price than what was listed on the shelf, he became visibly angry. He dismissively told us the shelf prices were 'old and wrong' and grew further frustrated when we clarified a bulk candy price. He even insisted the candy was in the wrong place and should be more expensive. His behavior was so rude that a nearby coworker--a kind, blonde woman--actually apologized to us for his conduct and wished us a Happy Women's Day. It is disappointing to see such a lack of manners. I want to alert other customers to double-check their receipts, as the prices at checkout often do not match the shelves, and we were nearly charged for items we didn't even have. read more

This place has way outdated things for sale, so make sure you double check that. Stay away from the cannoli as it was a rip off, they only have filling on the ends and are empty in the middle. A lot of products aren't identified in English which would be nice. Won't be going back. read more

Fun place! Even though I have lived here in the Boise area for around 8 years now, I had no idea that this place existed! Lucky me that I finally discovered it!!! I was itching for some seriously authentic eastern "bloc" food and so I made the trip out to do just that. I truly appreciate all cuisines and my sweet, late mother used to make some of these dishes despite our Italian and French heritage. She made chicken paprikash, beef stroganoff, and even stuffed cabbage, just to name a few. Since the pandemic hit, we all stayed behind so it was such a nice change to get out and about and explore a new shop! They offer a wide range of what was mostly Russian and Ukrainian food items and while I was shopping around, I asked a kind Russian family what the best bread was in the shop to buy and they pointed out a fresh Rye loaf that was made in-house, so I bought some!! It was a perfectly shaped, a beautiful deep brown color and you can tell it was so fresh! I also bought some liver pate', some cabbage salad, stuffed cabbage with a sour cream sauce, and some marinated mushrooms. YUM! I would say there were only two things I wasn't super jazzed about. One, that it was so dark in the shop and two, they seemed short staffed and I got one member of the team that moved so slow, I almost fell asleep waiting for my deli item. LOL Everything was delicious, but I did discover one small surprise...a cranberry in the middle of my container of cabbage salad. Is this for good luck? Anyone know? This place is usually well-staffed, and the variety of food seems plentiful, but the quality of the food often proves to be disappointing. Last week I bought $53 dollars' worth of smoked fish, which appeared to be old when cut but I ate it any ways and I was sick for 4 days following. I have also purchased candy there (arrow/strela) and it actually had mold in it. The cakes are WAY overprices. The vegetables are topically 10-15% more expense than WinCo. prices. make sure to check expiration dates. Be careful what you buy here. read more

I found this European delicatessen by accident. It's kind of out-of-the-way, but totally worth a try. I went in there for the first time, and I really enjoyed it. They had a good selection of hot food as well as all kinds of other European delights. The cash register is a little slow, but in general, I thought this place was a definite win. Wonderful supplier of fish eggs, pickled: mushrooms, pumpkin, garlic. Matias fish. And many many more European / Russian based foods. At a decent price as well. They usually have all I want so I just stockpile it for next time I'm in the area. For that it's priceless. Look, they are not costumer service oriented ppl. I read all the bad reviews. This is a Russian style store. Including the ppl. It's not a Russian American one. They have yet to acclimate it seems to the way we are here. In a few years, I'm sure costumer service will be gréât. I was really looking forward to visiting. While I spent about $60 there today, I would not recommend it unless you are looking for tea or Russian medicines. I didn't notice any expired items, but there was a lady sorting through several baskets of why looked like expired items. Now, their prices? Outrageous by all accounts! In the age of e-commerce and cross pollination of cultures and availability of European staples at other ethnic stores and online, it's almost criminal to charge those prices. $25 for cheese that is sold elsewhere for $13? I am a native Russian speaker, and they ignored me. I can only imagine what they do to others. ALL employees seemed like they were working in a gulag! I echo what others have said online. Customer service is NON EXISTENT. It's not that they are rude, they are aloof towards customers. . They don't even make eye contact. Either those employees are seriously working against their will (slave labor or family pressure) or they've picked the least friendly people in the universe! read more

Just into Boise for the day and stumbled across this delicious deli. Don't leave without trying their soups from scratch ( borscht and a meatball - both wonderful). We had a shared plate of stuffed bell pepper and cabbage rolls. Both of these reminded me of how my grandmother and mother would cook. So yummy! My adult daughters and I visited the Meridian store today for lunch. This was our first visit. We arrived at noon and there was a short line in the deli section. We got in line and were served promptly when we moved up the line. We ordered several items from the hot deli and shared them at the table in the dining area. We were pleasantly surprised at the flavors. We enjoyed our lunch and topped it off with freshly baked poppy seed bread and coffee. Afterwards I browsed the grocery shelves as I enjoy learning about international foods. The staff were pleasant and gave us great service. I recommend this interesting store and deli. In the foreign Grocery Market there is a new player in town and then come to play. This store is ultra clean very nice and has a Russian Flair. Lots of fresh produce lots of fresh meats and cheeses and Breads and even cakes and desserts. I highly recommend you come and try them out. read more

This full grocery store carries lots of Russian foods including fresh vegetables with some sold on discount if they are extra ripe like onions perfect for soups. They have a well-stocked deli with good selection of cheeses. They carry a large selection of sweets and chocolates and of course all the canned goods. read more
