So rude and a bad business - they tried to charge my sister $20 to try on a pair of shoes. They claim it's to deter customers from getting "fitted for a shoe" and buying it somewhere else. What's next? Paying money to get into the store to look around, God forbid you change your mind and don't want to buy anything. I called to inquire about this insane fee, because I had never heard of anything like this before, and was greeted by the owner who was incredibly rude on the phone and insisted that it's a waste of time to let people try on shoes without buying them. I asked how long it might take to try on shoes and he told me "up to 15 minutes" - So, to recap, this is $20 for 15 minutes of his time. I wanted to ask if you still get charged $20 if you intend on buying a pair of shoes but don't like the fit, style or simply change your mind - but he hung up on me. There are plenty of leather shops and cobblers in the surrounding areas that deserve your business more than this place. I'll be surprised if they stay open for the foreseeable future if this is how they treat a simple inquiry to a bad business practice. read more

This shop is so confusing. I bring in my shoes and talk to the older guy. He's cool and says they'll put vibram sole protectors on my boots. He said he'd call me later that day and tell me the price (which is weird, you should know the cost to put cut rubber and glue it on) and to leave the boots there. So I left them, never got a call and when I tried reaching out the phone was never answered and there is no voicemail. I ended up going in after 2 days to just go pick up my boots because I didn't want them to work on them anymore. When I go in I see a lady. She's rude and snarky. I see that my boots weren't moved from the spot I put them. She said "we don't do that here" referring to vibram protectors on boots. Well why wasn't I told that at first, also this thing I asked of them is simple and typical of any shoe repair shop. They are unprofessional and rude. I will be going elsewhere. read more

I had a pair of new boots that my dog had chewed the tip of the zipper off. In seeking a repair shop I came across Boisvert's. The Yelp reviews were pretty unfavorable. However - I'm here to tell you Megan was awesome. Responsive to my need, creative in her solution, and couldn't have been more pleasant. DON'T PATRONIZE THIS BUSINESS. I brought a shoe in for repair that my dog had chewed. Karl took a look and he said no problem, he would fix it in a few days. 10 days went by and after 3 calls to see if the shoe was ready (the three different people who answered the phone said could not find it), called again. Again they said they still could not find the shoe. I said 'This is the fourth time I've called. ' The woman who answered said 'we don't repair dog chews.' Then I asked to speak to the owner, Karl, who had looked at the shoe while I was standing there 10 days previously and promised to have it done in a few days. I said, 'this is the fourth time I've called' I was not shouting or anything, and I never mistreat people who do services for me, but I must have sounded frustrated. I wish I could give them no stars at all. After being told the repairs on my Birkenstocks would take ONE WEEK, I didn't hear back from them after several. Gave them a call, the man who initially took my shoes said that he and his daughter had bronchitis and hadn't been able to work on them. Sure, okay. Could they have called to let me know? Yes, but whatever. These things happen. Called again in 6 months and the same man couldn't find my shoes and seemed frustrated that he had to locate them in order to inform me of their status-- a totally reasonable request. He offered to call me when they "found them". Doubting that this would happen considering it didn't the first time around but not wanting a fight, I agreed. Today, almost a YEAR AND A HALF LATER I called to speak with a woman, presumably his daughter. She said they were finished except she had to trim them (Um, what were you doing the last 16 months??). I asked them for a discount because of their poor communication and she not only gave me a huge attitude for asking, but I could hear a man (presumably the same one) scoffing and saying things like "Buh Bye" in the background. No understanding, no decent business practices, not even a kind tone to inform me they wouldn't be able to discount. Listen, I've worked several retail jobs in my life and I've worked minimum wage, and I am not the kind of person that wants to give folks in these positions a hard time. But their business practices are so horrific, I am writing a yelp review for the first time ever because I am loathe to see anyone give this business their patronage. DO NOT GIVE BOISVERT'S YOUR MONEY. They might be local and family owned but they have absolutely no integrity and are mean-spirited people. read more

Poor customer service. Unsatisfactory work. I was told a patch would be sewed onto my boot...instead they filled the site with glue & riveted a narrow leather strip over it....no patch....glue filled hole is still visible. Continued promises of the repair being ready when I called....4 weeks later I had to wait 30 min while he completed the repair. Very disappointed in the result....I am now shopping for a new pair of boots. read more

Took a sandal in for repairing at the end of September, and was told it would be ready in three weeks. Three weeks came and went. I called for an update, left a voicemail, and received no response. At the end of October, I moved out of the state. Today, March 30, I received a call from a very rude woman at Boisvert's, saying my sandal was finally ready. I asked why it had taken them 5 months to get back to me and she said they had been sick. I asked if they could mail me the sandal and she said no and that they would throw it away if it isn't picked up within 30 days. So my only option is drive four hours to Vermont to retrieve my sandal? Horrible service. read more

I left my boots to have new heels, and was it would be "about a week. After 1 1/2 weeks, I stopped in to check and nothing had been done. Two more weeks (now 3 1/2 weeks) and still nothing done, so I took the boots with me when I left. I would say "competent" in not the first adjective that comes to mind .... read more

After reading other reviews it's distressing to see that they tend to lose your shoes. I brought in a boot and was told it would be ready in one week. After three weeks I called and they said my boot was in the wrong pile. They didn't work on my boot because they misplaced it. I was told they would call a few days later but after another week I called again. This time the boot was ready but I explained my disappointment that it took a month to fix my shoe. The lady got very defensive with me and very rude. They really need to work on organization and customer service skills. In the end I got my boot back fixed at no charge. read more

I dropped a boot off to get the heal repaired/put back on. I waited over a week and checked back in, to be told that my boot was "lost". They could have at least told me it wasn't ready or something, but they were just flat out, "it's LOST". My favorite pair of boots, of course. I proceeded to stop in about 5 times over a 3 week period, trying to locate my "lost" boot, not sure how exactly how they "lost" the boot and determined to get my boot back, fixed or not. The staff seem incredibly stressed out and unorganized, and nobody seemed to have knowledge of their ticket system. I even offered to take the boot, UN-repaired, back, just so I could take it to a competent cobbler (in Winooski). I finally got my boot back and was charged full price, after the whole ordeal. read more

This place is THE BEST STORE IN TOWN!!! Anyone that lives in, or visits Barre should come here. The owners are extremely kind and helpful. They always size belts for my baby and me! Their Amish leather belts are indestructible: lasts for a lifetime. And they can make 20 year old beat up boots, look brand spankin' NEW again! The shop is extremely busy though, everyone from Montpelier-Barre-Berlin-Northfield and more surrounding towns come here for shoe repairs, so be patient with the timeframe. It IS a mom-and-pop shop and the girl at the counter works a couple jobs, so give her a break! (I'm talking to you, disgruntled customers that are obviously used to corporate bigshot stores like Walmart that has more than the funds and manpower to compensate buyers). Although there are more options and I get that a majority of people are using social media and e-commerce sites now, Central VT towns NEEDS this place. Otherwise, you will all be stuck supporting commercialization by buying cheap Made in China shoes that continuously fall apart on you. Spent $30 per shoe and throw it away every month, or buy a $200 pair of boots that will last a lifetime, and have it repaired for $20-$50 to give it a couple more years of life... I've been going to Boisvert's for 8 or 9 years with footwear, busted zippers and clothes-mending jobs. Overall they have done excellent work on footwear, exceptional work fixing zippers and basically okay work on the mending. I would definitely recommend this business to anyone who needs work done on clothing, you most likely will not be disappointed. That said, there was 1 time (out of many dozens) when they had a hard time finding my garment, but eventually tracked it down and knocked some of the price off for having temporarily misplaced it (hence the -1 star). They're good people and genuinely care about their work. read more

I totally LOVE this place - in the realm of the old-fashioned cobbler, these people know how to "restore" shoes rather than fix them. Took boots and shoes there; they not only put on heels better than the originals (and these are not inexpensive shoes), when I picked up the items, the leather had been treated as well as polished. Great price. Fantastic service. I have yet to experience any of the negative encounters described here. And today - by referral of my cleaners - I am taking a pair of leather gloves in for repair (my cleaners says Boisvert's the only place around with equipment small enough to handle the job). Also going to see if my leather handles on my tote can be repaired (before they break). Stay tuned. Meanwhile, if you need shoe repair service, this IS THE PLACE TO GO!!! Just a quick update: Mimi is a jewel. A gem. A magician. She not only fixed my handles on my tote - she reinforced them so they won't come apart again (manufacturer used a stitch to connect strap pieces to the tote; she connected straps to the tote). And she did an incredible job with the lambskin gloves - better than NEW. As I said, they don't fix things, they restore them. Five starts in anyone's book. read more

The owner Karl is a cool guy. Gave a great deal and really innovative. The girl, Megan, however is so extremely rude and uneducated. Awful customer service on her part. After asking about timeframe of fixing something, she said it would take a week. I immediately thought of the Yelp complaint of a lost pair of boots. Asked for something sooner and she responded, "HEY!!!! ARE YOU FIVE?!?" Go in and see what I mean. Or not. Take your business of buying belts and work boots on eBay for a better price. Got a great deal on a motorcycle jacket when I went in for shoe repairs last time. They totally stand behind the products they sell.

First let me start off by saying we have heard nothing but positive feedback about this estabilshment. Busy day at the shop so the woman at the front was understandably rushed not however an excuse to be rude to the three of us that went in. My wife had a simple request for a new pair of boots to be stretched. Easy enough and cheap enough. Long story short we had a cconversation about the work and the woman said it would be a few days and they would call her. 7 days later my wife asks me if I would go pick up the boots on my way home from work. Gave them a call and the woman on the phone said she could not find them and would call me back. Receive a call back 10 mins later asking for more information on the boots and said they would call me back. Never received a second call back so I too a drive after work down to see what was going on. Came in with a positive attitude because stuff happens and it was not a big rush deal to have the boots back just getting a status. I asked about the status of the boots and explained i had called earlier. The woman at the front was instantly rude and went out back to try to find them. She came back with no luck and I was asked more questions about the boots and handed a man behind the counter a tag. The boots were "found" on the stretching machine. I was handed the boots and absolutely nothing was done to them no compound was applied and the boots were not resized in anyway and now there is a small rip in the back. This whole time I received nothing but attitude from the woman like the attitude of some high school diva. If they had been nice and said it's going to take 2 weeks we would have left them for 2 weeks and been happy. But we were told a few days so I'm getting attitude for holding them to there word. At the same time a friend of mine dropped off two pairs of shoes she called them same day and they explained to her they had not started on them. Come on just own the fact you forgot to start on ours too and just threw them on the machine and didn't magically find them. Why lie about it? These are a $500 pair of boots that now have to be taken somewhere else and I lost $25 in the process. Not a good expirence, hopefully we can resolve the issues. I feel like I was lied to and ripped off they took the money and performed none of the work and caused damage. read more
