One-Star Review -- Excellent Doctor, but Billing Department Makes the Practice Impossible to Recommend I have been seeing Dr. Ferrer‑Bruker for over three years, with more than fifteen visits during that time. She is an outstanding physician -- so much so that I recommended her to my wife, who also became a patient. Unfortunately, the billing department has made continuing care here extremely difficult. As a veteran, I'm used to insurance taking a little longer to process, but in this case the delays were caused entirely by billing errors. Incorrect codes were submitted to my insurance, and I only learned about the issue when I received a second notice for non‑payment. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I immediately contacted the billing department, but reaching a real person is nearly impossible -- you leave a message, wait up to three days, and if you miss their return call, the entire cycle starts over.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] When I finally spoke with someone, I was told the issue was resolved. It wasn't. Because billing waited so long to resubmit the corrected codes, I had to obtain a new referral from my primary doctor. Even worse, after three months of silence from billing, I received a call and a letter from a collection agency. At 64 years old, I have never been sent to collections before. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It took multiple calls and another three months before the matter was finally cleared.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Despite all of this, I decided to give the practice another chance because of how much I valued the doctor. But on my first visit back, I was told I would not be seen unless I provided a credit card to keep on file -- despite having a credit score in the high 700s to low 800s. After everything I had already gone through, this was the final straw. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Veterans beware: The doctor is excellent, and the reception staff is warm, but the billing department is disorganized, unresponsive, and ultimately harmful.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My rating averages out to one star: Doctor: 5 stars Reception: 4 stars Billing: -5 stars Great care isn't worth the stress of dealing with this billing department. This is my first time here for a body scan. I was impressed immediately walking inside and all the way through my appointment. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Everyone was so welcoming and kind.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I saw Dr Sarah Ferrer-Bruker for a punch biopsy to confirm a condition I have, they were highly recommended by my PCP. She was VERY thorough. [[HIGHLIGHT]]She had a student MD working with her at my appointment and asked if I didn't mind her participating in my appointment.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] She too was very thorough in reviewing my history and labs, she also examined me and both doctors were very patient focused to make sure I understood everything. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Everything was explained more in detail than other providers I've seen for this problem.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Staff were warm and welcoming and the office is just beautiful!! I have a daughter with Down Syndrome struggling with eczema and psoriasis. Due to being on SSI she has medicaid for a disability. A referal was sent as they take her insurance...but only for existing clients. Now if I was to pay cash they will see her. The point being they simply just want to take the bare minimum of Medicaid patients to say they accept the insurance. I made an appointment with this practice based on all the great reviews online. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Over the phone, they asked about my concerns, and I mentioned hair loss and wanting to check a few beauty marks. They said that was fine and didn't mention I'd need two separate appointments for those concerns.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] When I arrived, the physician Loren, asked me if I preferred a full skin test or a specific scalp test for hair loss, and said they didn't have time to address both. Since my priority was ensuring everything was okay with my beauty marks, I opted for the full skin test, thinking it would take around 30 minutes. To my surprise, the "full" skin test took less than 10 minutes, and that was the entire consultation. There wasn't even time for the provider to ask if I had any other questions or concerns. 10 min is the time they have and to my surprise this not only happened to me there's another review that says the same thing. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I have never felt so rushed or had such an impersonal experience in a medical setting.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I paid a $40 copay, and to address my other concerns, I'd need to schedule another appointment and pay another $40, likely for another brief consultation. I won't be doing business with this practice again. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Not to mention, when I called to cancel the next appointment, they didn't ask why or if I wanted to reschedule. I told them I was unhappy and disappointed, but the person on the phone just said, 'I'm sorry to hear that,' and hung up.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They clearly don't care about their business. I would give zero stars if possible. Dr.Ferrer was incredibly dismissive when I went in with an active (yet controlled) impetigo infection on my face after two previous rounds of antibiotics from an urgent care center failed. She looked at my skin for all of a few seconds and said I didn't have staph. However I made her do a swab for me anyway. She took it with antibiotic cream still on my face so of course the results came back negative. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I asked her clarifying questions about why if it wasn't staph my skin would be acting the way it was, constantly oozing golden fluids, itching, spreading, etc. and she made comments that made me out to be ignorant, at fault for damaging my own skin, and that she had superior knowledge and judgement.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] In the meantime, I spent three weeks continuing to fight off the infection and had a second swab done at a different practice when the spread flared up and was back to being unmanageable. It came back positive for antibiotic resistant s.aureus! Dr.Ferrer and her practice are negligent and will never earn my business again! This skin infection was my second experience with them. My first experience was an annual skin exam to which I will say the practitioner at that appointment was also dismissive about any of my concerns and judgmental of my familial skin history. I was seen today for a new patient appointment and I cannot say enough about this place. It's small and intimate which I appreciate. The staff was very friends and the office itself was clean but also aesthetically pleasing. I was seen by the PA, Loren Bonenclark and she was fantastic. She answered all of my questions and made me feel confident and comfortable during exam. Highly, HIGHLY recommend this practice! Also, huge shout out to the front office admins who were polite and well spoken with all patients who came in and were spoken to on the phone. I made an appointment to support a business that supports my child's school despite the reviews. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The PA knew why I was coming because it was a follow up to an appointment the year prior, and I had a thorough conversation on the phone before scheduling as to not waste my time.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My appointment was at 3:45, and I was home by 4:00. No services were rendered because the PA said she didn't feel comfortable with her lack of experience with children at her practice. Why this was not communicated to me prior to the appointment when they knew the reason for the appointment makes me wonder if they just wanted to bill my private insurance for an office visit. Two stars because at least I didn't have to wait long to hear I was there for no reason. read more

Several poor experiences. Misdiagnosed my son and prescribed a cream that caused a bad reaction. Only interested in discussing Accutane as a treatment for mild acne. I received a mole check (adult female) while standing up awkwardly in a crowded room with 3 people (after asking that a resident not be present). Very uncomfortable and unpleasant experience. They then lost my records after I had them sent there. Somehow found them, but never followed up until I called myself weeks later. At that time, they told me a mole needed to be biopsied. If I had not called, I would not have even gotten this information. Told them I would take medical records and go elsewhere and was told I could not get my OWN MEDICAL RECORDS. Needless to say, will not go back. Unethical, too quick to assess and then do so incorrectly, and highly unprofessional exams. Choose elsewhere!! read more

The service in the lobby was excellent, very friendly and diligent. The nurse was friendly and explained the process of the visit with the PA in detail. As I began my visit with the PA, I explained my concerns and the skin conditions I needed to treat. According to the PA, my conditions are purely aesthetic and one of them, which requires medication, the medication is not covered by a medical plan, but through a specialized pharmacy only for them. The conditions I was concerned about had been previously treated by other dermatologists and were covered by my health plan. However, based on the PA, they are not covered, they are cosmetic treatments. The conditions I went to be treated for were not treated. If you are not sure that your skin conditions are cosmetic, I recommend that you go find another dermatologist. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Sarah Ferrer-Bruker at Bold City Dermatology for a couple months now and it's time for a review. My first thought is that she is an authentically nice and decent person. Personable, thoughtful, and extremely competent. She knows more about Dermo that any clinician I have encountered. She can be directive when necessary, but also listens well, explains diagnoses and treatment options, and works with patients for suitable treatment. Her staff is impressive as well in their professionalism, empathy, and competency. I also want to acknowledge her front desk person Bree (possibly the office manager) who is exceptional. She possesses great empathy for patients, is proactive, and goes above and beyond the call of duty. The practice (physical space) is pristine and presents as an extremely pleasant environment. I have been going to Bold City Dermatology for about 2 yrs now with my daughters to see Dr Ferrer, and I've always had excellent service. This morning I went to the Palencia location for an appointment for myself. However, I was not on their schedule, which was upsetting but not the end of the world. I only wasted a part of my morning preparing and showing up for an appointment that I apparently didn't have. But what I really take exception with was the person at the front desk interrogating me by asking my date of birth and procedure I'm scheduled for in-font of other clients in the waiting room. I thought she was going to ask for my full SSN next. I'm assuming that HIPAA rules apply to dermatology clinics too. She then asked me into a private room only after I said I'm not comfortable discussing my private medical information in-front of other clients. This was a very unfortunate and disappointing experience for me! read more
