Bold Rock Cidery feels like such a VA staple. If you're a cider person you have to check this charming spot out. It's family friendly and has a lot of easy parking. There is plenty of seating indoors and outdoors. Do know it can get packed on weekends so outdoor seating can be harder to come by. The Cidery overlooks a huge field below that is good for kids and pets to run around. They have a huge selection of cider. They also offer a cider that you can only get at the taproom. We recently went on Mother's Day and they were doing a cute brunch and giving out free carnations. I enjoyed their classic cider and exclusive one. They have a pretty big food menu which is nice. Great place! Of course, their cider is one of the best in VA (maybe the US?...I'm not an expert in ciders, but I live Bold Rock.) What I like the most about visiting one of the Bold Rock locations is that I can have cider that sold in supermarkets. Their flights are the way to go. We were looking a little lost coming in, but David grabbed us up and said "I can help you over here". From there it was love at first SIP! He has us at FREE SAMPLE ciders. David took us through the offerings, educating us along the way. He mentioned what ciders are the most flavorful and why. He hung with our curiosity, eagerness to drink and indecisiveness at the same time. Customer service is crucial to a pleasant experience. I can only hope the rest of the staff are as easy going and likes their job as much as he does. Now for the cider. GET THE FLIGHT! Sample and fall in love with options instead of one. Let's get into this food. We ordered: Tacos w/ house chips Chicken Nachos Cajun Honey wings & fries All great and very fresh made to order, so good, good flavors. My fave were the wings and the house chips. Only notes is out more sauce and seasoning on the wings, I felt like BR was teasing me with a good time. I needed more! Same with the nachos so good. The chips were fresh, but I need more cheese throughout the chips. Chicken was on point. Everything was super super fresh so good. House chips is a huge staple love them. Stopped by Bold Rock on a sunny afternoon and honestly didn't want to leave. The views of the Blue Ridge Mountains were unreal--picture-perfect backdrop for a cold cider and good food. I started with a cider flight (highly recommend if you're indecisive like me). My favorite was the Blackberry--it was fruity without being too sweet. Super refreshing. For food, I had the island tacos and our guests had burgers, fries and kitchen sink Potatoes. The whole place has this laid-back, welcoming vibe. Tons of space to spread out, sit by the creek, or chill at a picnic table. Everyone was super friendly, and it's dog-friendly too--saw some happy pups living their best lives. I had the cheeseburger and chips. It was tasty. Unfortunately, when we got there, they were out of chicken and fries, which was a bummer. The seating is first-come, first-served. We were there the other day with a large group- First off- the location. This place is BEAUTIFUL!! Second- the cider...delicious! So many choices. I got the N/A and it was so good! Everyone loved the Dill Pickle cider too! Third- the food! My goodness get the fried chicken sandwich. Seriously get it. Last but super important- the service. Between Brandon and Mel- we were so well taken care of. They were quick, nice and helped us with all of our needs. We will definitely be making this a part of our annual tour! read more

Disappointing visit. We were looking forward to visiting Bold Rock but were not thrilled with our experience. We traveled with another couple and all went to the counter to order flights, listening to their interactions with the staff compared to our employee  (who turned out to be the manager), It was vastly different. Ours provided little guidance and was annoyed by our questions, where their employee explained and happily answered questions. When we received our flights they were vastly different. Ours was 4 small plain plastic dixie cup size samples and theirs came in larger plastic cups with Bold Rock printed on the side. Both were the same price?? The ciders were ok at best and leaned to the overly sweet side (even the dry ones). I used to be a fan of Bold Rock but their ciders taste like other mass produced and distributed ones found nationwide. During our visit numerous displays/ads were promoting their RTD cocktails and one of them was an orange crush, which we wanted to try.  We are huge fans of the Orange Smash made by a neighboring establishment (DBB). I should have asked the price for a can prior (my fault), but after we tasted it and were disappointed I wondered how much I paid for the can... $9.00.  You could purchase 4 cans to go for $11.99.   When I went to question the cost of the can  It was confirmed. I asked why it was so expensive ( I don't mind paying for quality drinks, but this seemed a bit steep since we were at the actual cidery.) The response was that it was the ABC law that set the price and togo were cheaper and providing cans at the cidery is a convenience for the visitors.  While it is true togo packages can be priced less, the establishment has leeway to set in-house prices.   When the manager used the analogy that it is cheaper to buy Bud-light in cases than it is to drink at a bar....this was definitely a slam insinuating that I'm a cheap drink person etc. etc. Had the manager had people skills, this could have turned into a positive experience to appease the customer. Even something as simple as "I understand your frustration, but why don't you try this pour of cider you may like". Overall a disappointing experience. Basic overly sweet cider and poorly trained unhappy staff. So many other options in stores for top rated ciders. read more

This is another one of our go to spots in wintergreen. We love everything about this place. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The food is always delicious and plenty. And it always feels like we are home for the holidays. We always get excited to try all new and seasonal ciders. We have yet to find one we don't like. My favorite this time around was the pineapple one, yummy. This year we were able to also sample some goodies at the distillery side of this business. I hope they consider expanding both buildings. Around the holidays it's almost impossible to get a table and the wait can be long. They have 3 buildings. The best one in my opinion is the building all the way to the far right and you do have to climb what they call the summit, But it is worth it. It's open seating. You walk up to the bar to the left and place all you orders. Drinks you wait and they pour them right there. Food they give you a buzzer and when your order is ready you go up to the window and pick up your food. There is seating everywhere. Staff super friendly and everything is fast. This place is dog friendly areas and games outside. Parking lot is so packed but there is plenty of parking and fields of seating outside We had a blast. It's beautiful inside and outside are fire pits and there is just a great vibe. The distillery is nice. The cider is good. The views are great. I love Bold Rock. But this grilled cheese (see pic) was just sad. I feel like a child or drunk college student could easily make a better grilled cheese. It was billed as an apple grilled cheese on sourdough and instead it was kraft/American cheese with a tiny bit of apple on super burnt toast. And it was still cold despite being burnt. We went here twice on our trip dubbed Blue Ridge Booze Tour. And both times loved it. The first was for drinks and light eats, the second just for drinks. Our first visit we opted for flights since we'd never been. I'm not a big cider fan but I did find two I'd drink again. We did the smoked chicken nachos, pretzel sticks, and fried pickles. The food was good and what you'd expect from a brewery. I'll try nachos everywhere and every way, you can't really lose with those. Overall I'd completely eat there again. Second trip, just drinks, and took home a few bottles. Oh, and the staff? Awesome! 10/10 just for the ladies working behind the bar our first trip in. They were very helpful, very funny! This is the best Bold Rock! They have a huge property with a distillery and sell drinks you cant find anywhere else there (these drinks are liquor/cider drinks like their "bold fashion"). They also surprisingly have great food! I didn't expect much but their "adult grilled cheese" and pretzels were fantastic. The service was great for both food & drink. When we were choosing our side the bartender suggested mixing the imperial and cranberry ciders and it was amazing; I still mix them together at home now! Another huge draw of this place is they have a huge seating area outside with stunning views. This is the perfect place to hang out with friends on the weekend. read more

Bold Rock is a nice blend of good food and scenic setting. I personally think they have the best smash burger on Rt 151. I just wish they offered a couple good local draft beers on top of their wide selection of draft hard ciders. The beer breweries along 151 most often offer a hard draft cider and I wish Bold Rock would do the same and offer a couple draft beers for those who don't care for hard cider. I've tried their very limited offering of canned beer and just don't care for them. read more

Called ahead to ensure they had what I was looking for. They told me they had what I wanted and the price was $23. I drove an hour in the pouring rain to the Cidery to get what I was looking for only to get there and be told they're completely sold out the day prior after telling me it was in stock an hour before and that the new price was $73. Store Employee understood my frustration and got the manager. Manager completely waved me off with barely a word spoken to me. I don't know if I'll ever come back honestly.
