We had a wonderful time at this brewery. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming and made our group feel right at home. Brewery # 451 This is the type of brewery that my girlfriend would love. The outdoor area at Brewery Tree is great. There is a huge sandbox for the kiddos, there's a covered patio to have a few cold ones with signs that remind us all that "Wu-Tang is for the Children", and there is another sitting area at the bottom of the hill by a gorgeous creek. Although I wouldn't recommend carrying a flight down there. Inside there are maybe 8 beers on tap ( I can't remember) but I got a flight that consisted of a Vienna Lager, a Mexican Lager, a Hefe, and a Chapter 2 IPA. All of the beers were solid, but I think the Philadelphia Vienna Lager was my favorite. There was a food menu but wasn't hungry at the time. There were also beer slushies and other items for those who don't drink beer. The service was friendly. My only complaint would be the flight boards are a little flimsy for those tall flight glasses. My friends and I came here when they opened at 12 on Thursday and it was great because we basically had the whole place to ourselves. It's great for families and is dog friendly. There's almost like a food truck but it's a small building next to the main entrance where you can order food at and then you can get alcoholic drinks inside. It's all self serving pretty much. There's tons of outdoor seating which is nice and if you walk down the path to the creek there's even more chairs and games. read more

For the Brewing Tree Scratch Kitchen, we ordered the 'MFT' Italian Hoagie and the pumpkin whoopie pie. The Hoagie was good but a little spicy and the whoopie pie had a great flavor. Our friends ordered the Maple-Honey Butter Sweet Potato Fries and those were absolutely delicious, definitely recommend! For our drinks, I ordered the Apple Lager which was pretty tart but good overall. My friend got the Pina Colada slushie which was mainly just coconut. This was a really cool brewery from the road it was very inviting!! There was cool booth outside that made ice creams and stuff that wasn't opened when we came so we went inside.. place was really comfortable and cute inside.. good choices of beers and they let you try before you get a glass. They had seasonal beers as well as regular all year round. They sold tshirts and different merchandise. We took our beers outside as there was a very nice mountain breeze. There's a spot for a band to play as well as a sloping walk down to a nice creek where you can sip a beer in hammock or at picnic table.. some people were swimming so we didn't go but how cool they have that!! Absolutely amazing vibes here! Great pricing for the drinks and they do free beers if you try out their Apple sling shot where if you make an apple into their barrel you get a free beer! But it's super hard lol & you have to pay $1 for 5 apples. We recently stumbled across this spot, and now have been back many times. It's an unassuming spot with great beers, live music, and access to the river running through it. On a weekend, you can find lots of kids playing in the water, dogs chasing sticks, and adults relaxing throughout the lower area. In the summer the river bar is open which keeps you from having to go up and down the large hill to get additional drinks. We haven't tried the food yet, but there is a food truck on site. The staff is really nice and the service is good. Definitely a place to add to your rotation for outdoor spots in the summer! read more

We discovered this brewery for ourselves by accident while driving to DE from NC - it is about midway. Lots of outdoor activities - hammock, seating next to a river. A perfect midway break for lunch. Cute place! Good beer, actual food cooked to order and ice cream too. Ample seating. If you have rugrats- lots of places for them to run around (a field and a sand play area) and also it's still such a big space that adults can relax without it feeling like a playground (instead of the intended "mostly adult space where kids are welcome" ). There is live music , friendly service, and it even sits on the river! There is inside seating too. I saw some goldfinches in the sunflowers. I went there on memorial day weekend to stop in for a flight with my husband and dog. To our surprise, they allow dogs inside and have an amazing outdoor space that goes all the way down to a creek. We didn't try any of the food from the food truck, but it smelled so good. The woman who helped us at the bar was so friendly, and gave us a good rundown of what the property had to offer. Terrible customer service. Ordered food from The Scratch Kitchen and it was cold. Went to get it when buzzer went off and it was cold. Went back to ask for hot food and they closed the window on us and the manager would not speak to us. Brewery manager Mark pulled my husband aside and tried to escalate their error. My husband calmly explained that the food was cold. I went back to ask for a refund since we had no food and the manager would not speak to me and told me to see the manager Mark at the brewery, which is her husband. I asked for a refund and he told me we had our food and I said yes but it was cold and we'd like warm/hot food and he told me we didn't go up when our buzzer went of but we did. He told me he did not believe me and was a total jerk. Walked abruptly to the register, handed me cash and said to never come back. Not sure how asking for our food to be hot escalated to them acting like compete jerks but we will not be back and will let others know. Very bad customer service and obviously issues with the husband and wife that are running these businesses. read more

We came on fathers day on a long weekend. At 1pm, the food truck says they're no longer taking orders to do inventory and give no time on when to check back. This establishment has very, very strict rules and signage that no outside food or drinks are allowed and we came with three senior dogs, am diabetic, and dog water bowl is covered in algae and dogs won't drink from it. We waited an hour to order, then waited over an hour for our food. We just found out because we asked that they 'lost our order'. We came to spend the long weekend with our dying senior dog and my husband has spent half the time waiting by the food truck since their buzzers don't work where we are seated. If I could give a 0 star review I would. Zero accountability for any of these lapses. I will also note they chased away and made an elderly couple leave for bringing outside food when the truck was not taking orders. read more

Husband and I stopped here on a tour of Nelson 151. It's a nice, casual atmosphere. We shared a beer flight and soft pretzels outside on the porch. Everything was delicious. There was live music and lots of dogs (on leashes). There's a cool area around back down by the water for nature lovers (and smokers) to hang out. There's even an axe throwing area. Officially my new favorite brewery stop on 151. The man behind the bar was personable and helpful in choosing - and when someone came in with unleashed dogs, he immediately addressed the situation. If you bring your dogs, they need to be leashed here, period. This is a huge relief for other pet owners as you never really know how someone else's dog is going to react. Although we left our pups at home, we appreciated BT's response to this situation, and I know the other couple with their *leashed* dogs appreciated it as well. Now to the beer/setting/food. I got a pale ale, and my friend got a peach shandy-ish beer. Both were excellent, and easy drinking beers. I got a burger from the food truck, and although it was good - I don't know that it was worth the $15 pricetag when it only came with a bag of chips. That being said, I'd have rather paid the $15 than gone up the road to the other big brewery, where their food has been severely lacking in recent years. BT has a gorgeous outdoor space, plenty of seating and water access. I will definitely be back! read more

Even more than the beer, I LOVE the location. The main building is like a large cabin, rustic, yet modern with a large bar. Covered wrap around porch is great so you can enjoy the great outdoors with shade from the sun. Lots more tables on the grounds. Places for kids to play. A lovely creek running behind the property. Lots to enjoy. Beers are above average, but not great.... The menu looks really good, too. We only tried the fried pickles on our visit. Some of the best we've had. Just left Brewing Tree and had a great experience. The tasting room is really cool inside. They had 10 beers on tap, 2 from Seven Arrows (a Waynesboro brewery). I tried the Hefeweizen but ordered the Chapter Two IPA; he had the Pilsner and the Black IPA (Seven Arrows). All were decent and I would go back on the beer alone. The space outside is awesome. We sat by the fire pit for a good hour, enjoying food from the food truck (a bit slow, not many choices, but overall tasty) and listening to a band play. Then we wandered down below to throw axes, play soccer and splash in the creek. Pretty much a perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon with friends and the kiddos! read more

Really cool place! Great set up inside and outside. Love how it backs up to a river. The beer was good, not mind blowing but still good. We got the dark lager and one of the IPA's. But the food - the juicy Lucy chicken sandwich was soooo good. It was thick and fried perfectly. Loved the slaw, it wasn't too mayo-y. The pickles and sauce were perfect finishing touches. I stopped at Brewing Tree on my way to Wintergreen on 8/9/19. Although it was fairly empty, I still felt very comfortable. The ambiance of this brewery is somewhat rustic. The grounds are beautiful. The brewery also appears hosts a wide range of activities including ax throwing. Although none of the beers stood out to me nothing stood out to me, none of them were bad either. We had such a great experience at Brewing Tree! The burgers we had from the Scratch Kitchen food truck (open Thursday-Sunday) were delicious. The beer was good and they offer plastic cups if you want to walk with your beverage down to the creek (they don't insist that only plastic cups go down but they should considering the number of bare feet and dogs) but do the right thing and get plastic to walk down the pretty steep path to the water. Our kids loved playing in the water to cool off (there is not much shade) and the adults enjoyed the live music and beautiful scenery. read more

3.5/5 August 2019. We stopped here during a trip to Nelson County. Brewing tree had been recommended by someone along the way. They had a lovely shaded view overlooking the river and a nice overall ambience. Most of the beer was in the good to very good range and I particularly like the sour grapes and the Apple lager. They also had a semi-permanent food truck on the property and offered a number of snacks and appetizer type items. There was plenty of outdoor space and a nice covered porch as well. If you find yourself in the area I would recommend a stop. read more

Really nice brewery with a pretty view of the river. There's plenty of seating and a huge outside space for little ones to run around. Employees were friendly and knowledgeable of the beers. Went for Friday Steamed Shrimp night. Ordered shrimp and asked if they would have enough or they thought they would run out. I said I would buy more then and that I wanted to take some home. They said no they wouldn't run out. Finished a "light" pins of shrimp and went to order more 30 min later. They were out. When I mentioned our earlier conversation, they could care less . If I hadn't asked I would have been ok, but I did ask. Poor management and keeping track. They actually ran out before I returned and were refunding people people they sold shrimp to without a protect. Poor communication with employees. Attitude is what made it worse Said they got busy, but less people then than when we arrived. read more

Walter was a great host. He was able to provide samples from us telling him what kind of beers we normally drank. We had the bacon maple nuts. Yum! Must try them. We saw amazing platters of nachos go by but sadly they were out by the time we decided to get them. They were HUGE!! The decor was nice, staff was friendly and they had fun games to play while sitting and enjoying a cold beverage. I tried the top four flight off the menu. Come here for the outdoor space, stay for the beer. This place has really come a ways since I first visited a few years back. They boast a large selection of beers, which are all pretty solid, but what really makes this place special is their outdoor area. There is plenty of green space for distancing, all by a river that your dogs are sure to love. There are fire pits and even a space for ax throwing too. Check it out on your 151 tour! read more

So let me lay this down - this place is absolutely not service oriented or flat out feels like they are above the money of their patrons. Example: Two employees in the taproom (male & female). Male (short gentleman) declares blood orange tap requires changing. Cool, I'll pay in advance. I'm warned that a keg change will take 20 minutes. Aren't you in the business of selling beer? Wife buys a beer and I go to buy food (beerless). It's 2:31pm, I'm told they are not taking food orders. So now I have no beer or food at a place that makes their livelihood based on those sales. I genuinely hope the owner considers their business model. On the upside the female (younger) bartender was extremely friendly and genuinely apologetic. read more
