The view is the main reason to come here- absolutely magnificent! The food is also very good and of course the wine is a lot of fun. We did not try a lot of wine- just one of the Petite Manseng varieties (the one aged in concrete) and we enjoyed it with the vegan pizza and the strawberry chicken salad. The service is super efficient- I would go back and have the exact same thing!

I've been here a few times. The positive is that it's a huge place with tons of seating inside and out, so it's vert easy to visit. I don't think I've needed to make reservations the times I went. The view is pretty lovely since it's on a hill top. My main negative is that the wine here is not very good. I'm not a wine expert by any means, but I have not tasted a wine here that I enjoyed. I can say the same for the food- also not very good. The whole place has that "commercialized" Italian feel. The vibes can get pretty crowded at certain times of day and the service is not very attentive, especially as it gets busy. Overall, I come here because it's been convenient, but I wouldn't recommended based on the wine or food.

Views for days! Hazy Mountain sits right at the top of the mountain, and the scenery alone is worth the trip. The outdoor seating area is massive! Open, breezy, and designed for soaking in every inch of that Blue Ridge beauty. It's got a definite Italian villa vibe, with stone accents and sweeping terraces that make you feel like you've slipped away to Tuscany for the afternoon. I'll be honest, as a sweet wine drinker, this spot wasn't exactly my match. The bartender even gave me a heads-up that they don't lean toward sweeter wines (which I appreciated!). That said, my boyfriend really enjoyed the beer he ordered, and we both agreed the atmosphere more than made up for my wine preferences. The staff was friendly and approachable, and since we visited on a weekday morning, it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. Just a few others scattered around, plenty of space, and the kind of peaceful quiet you don't often find at popular wineries. If you're looking for breathtaking views, peaceful mountain air, and an elegant setting, Hazy Mountain absolutely delivers. Even if the wine list isn't your usual style, the experience is worth every minute of the drive.

    Flight and a spectacular view.

5 - I'd try to convince my wife to drive an hour just to come here. Skip to the end to see my rating scale. Honestly, the high rating is all about the venue. It's gorgeous. The tasting room and patio area are constructed of high quality materials, giving the place such a classy feel. It's perched atop a hill overlooking the vineyards below with the mountains as a backdrop. They're pet friendly, so even though it borders on a stuffed-shirt feel, it's down to earth enough that our dog was obviously welcome. The beer selection is limited and it seems to be primarily a winery. So just the fact that decent beers are an option bumps the rating up a little higher than I would normally offer for their selection. But the beers in my flight were all crafted well enough that I'd happily spend another afternoon or early evening sipping on an IPA and appreciating the landscape. I didn't take advantage of the food opportunities, but again, the fact that it's there is the last of the three main things I look for - outdoor seating, good quality beers, and easy access to something to eat. So while the beers weren't the best I had on our trip to Virginia, they were still pretty good. But the facilities themselves are enough to make me want to try to convince Mama to go back. 1 - Just don't 2 - You'll survive, but there are better choices close by 3 - Good choice if you're in the area 4 - I'd drive 30 minutes out of my way just to come here 5 - I'd try to convince my wife to drive an hour just to come here

A beautiful estate and good wine! This was our first winery on our wine weekend and one of our group's favorites. We were a group of nine and were seated on the large covered patio overlooking the hills. We had great service; our server came by often to check on us. In order to sample the wines, we all opted for flights, most of which were between $20 and $25. These came out quickly and we all thought the wines were good. For lunch, most of the group opted for salads and pizzas. The blackberry chicken salad was delicious, and a very generous portion for the price point. The pizzas were very large for personal pizzas and very tasty. The arugula prosciutto was a standout. More than anything though, we enjoyed the scenery and the awesome patio that this vineyard had. A great scenic stop for anyone in the area!

absolutely beautiful vineyard! Such a great staff and incredible views. Great food (we got the charcuterie board) and wine flights. Absolutely recommend!

Easily one of my top three wineries in Virginia! The views of the mountains are absolutely stunning--you truly feel elevated and immersed in the scenery. The wine selection is excellent, and the food offerings complement it perfectly.

The views are simply stunning! Reminder our group of Tuscany. My husband had the hazy IPA and enjoyed it, while everyone else had wine flights. It was incredibly crowded, making seats impossible to find and lines long. The area to order is fairly narrow, so got cramped.

Really gorgeous views, mediocre wine. We stepped in for a late afternoon visit on a hot summer weekday. Since it was an off-time, we walked up to the bar and ordered right away. We ordered a rose and a white wine. Both were expensive and subpar. After checking out the inside of the building and the upstairs area, we headed down to the outdoor area and sat looking out at the mountains. Hazy Mountain is a good name for it, as it was certainly hazy, but overall I personally wouldn't return. The building felt sterile and almost like a Brio Tuscan Grille. Not my vibe.

Service, food and ambience were above expectations. We really enjoyed our time here on the patio on a wonderful spring day. The views are impeccable and the service and friendliness of the staff was amazing.

Hazy Mountain Vineyards and Brewery is absolutely amazing! The service is impeccable.. everyone is extremely kind and friendly!! Our group felt taken care of and warmly welcomed!! The views are beautiful and so is the ambiance!! The food is delicious as well!! This is a place I will be running back too!!

    Great outdoor space

This winery has fantastic views and ample outdoor space to enjoy it. The indoor space looks like a castle and is quite large as well! I tried the white wine flight and enjoyed it, I honestly don't know much about wines but to me it was good! The only downside was they wouldn't let us sit at a table outdoors without a reservation. There was some space open indoors upstairs, and it started raining anyway so it worked out. I wouldn't recommend coming here without a reservation if you want to sit and relax!

Views are impeccable - nowhere better in the area IMO. Tried a flight each as to be able to try 8 total wines - some were standouts, others were just fine. Cool that they're all made locally though - and honestly, that alone helps enhance the taste and the experience of drinking them. I love the ambiance to this place - the old stone building alongside the mountains felt very European and/or Napa-esque. Huge seating area outside that we basically had to ourselves - and plenty indoors and/or next to the building if you'd prefer a balcony. Can imagine this place is stunning for a wedding or big event. Definitely worth the stop overall!

Like, "did I just wander into a rustic resort?" levels of big and every corner has its own personality. First stop? The farm market. And listen... I could've spent my entire vacation budget right there. Shelves stacked with homemade canned goods, sauces, jams, salsa, pickled everything, and more pumpkins than Cinderella could handle. Total cozy-country heaven. The grounds are seriously gorgeous. You get these pockets of space that feel secluded and peaceful, almost like a secret beachy cabin retreat dropped into the Virginia mountains. There are tons of tables outside so you can sip and snack in the sunshine, plus a driving range, volleyball pits, and a giant "LOVE" sign that basically begs you to take a photo. Inside, the bar is warm, rustic, and charming the kind of spot that feels like it was built for good drinks and even better stories. They had a food truck the day we visited (I didn't see in-house food options), which just added to that relaxed, festival-by-the-lake feeling. Between the gorgeous scenery, the spacious layout, the drinks, and the vibes? This was easily one of my favorite stops on our travels. 10/10 would go back in a heartbeat.

But the beer had other ideas. As expected, it was excellent--cold, confident, and clearly in no mood to be rushed. Everything was clean and orderly. The burger arrived and did not disappoint. Honest, well-made, the sort of meal that reminds you why you ordered it in the first place. My wife's brisket sandwich, meanwhile, was everything brisket ought to be--tender, rich, and just indulgent enough to feel like a reward rather than a mistake. Fries came alongside, hot and crisp, doing their job without complaint or ceremony. And then, on the way out--as these things tend to happen--we stopped at the bar. That's where we met Vance. What followed was less a quick cocktail and more a conversation with drinks attached. The cocktails were excellent, but the company made them memorable. Vance makes a great adult beverage. All in all, Devil's Backbone isn't just a place to eat and drink. It's a place where a simple plan quietly turns into a better evening than you expected.

We visited around 3:00 p.m., well before the dinner rush, so we weren't expecting service delays or other issues. Unfortunately, the food was bland, overly oily, and significantly overpriced for the quality. We used to come here regularly and always enjoyed it, but it just isn't what it once was. The dining area was also uncomfortably warm, as the air conditioning didn't appear to be on. The only relief came when the kitchen door opened. Service felt rushed and impersonal as well--we were greeted with a curt "Where do you want this plate?" when our food arrived, which didn't make us feel particularly welcome. The property itself remains a lovely place to spend some time outdoors, but based on this visit, we wouldn't recommend it as a destination for dinner. We hope the restaurant can return to the level of quality and hospitality it once offered.
