In their new, beautifully decorated location, which has a section big enough for a medium sized group, you can enjoy the best chicken coconut curry in St. George. The meat is tender and covered with delicious sauce, the rice is perfect, and their cucumber salad is fresh with a hint of sweetness. There are lots of other yummy options too. If you're in the mood for authentic, flavorful Indian Cuisine, Bombay Cafe is the place to go in St George. I have also tried the other restaurants branded under the Indian cuisine category, and Bombay Cafe won, hands down. My husband and I had the Vege Somosas (I swear those things have me in a chokehold- so addictive), Cheese Naan, Grilled Lamb, which was served with a tomato choka and complimentary white rice, and the Pineapple Chicken meal (also came with rice). The potion size was very good. The food is prepared upon order, so on a busy night, this could mean a longer wait time. From the looks of things, Bombay Cafe is a small family-run establishment. The restaurant is small, clean, and cozy without any added frills. You order your meal from the cashier/owner and wait to be served at a table if dining. I would rate the entire experience as a 9/10. We would definitely visit again. And I have added this restaurant to my list of places to take my family when they visit. read more

Since I'm vegan, the staff helped me what to order and my friend isn't vegan or vegetarian, but she enjoyed her vegetarian dish as well!! When I was planning my trip to St. George for my annual Tuacahn shows and hiking trip, I checked Yelp for some new places for dinner. I had started to do repeat visits. On searching, I found Mombay Cafe, and I knew I had to trust my fellow Yelpers and give it a try. The place is a small mom and pop shop in a small strip mall just off St. George Boulevard. There are 7 tables total. The menu is small. I ordered the Coconut Curry Chicken, and order of Garlic Naan, and a Coke. The total for the bill was just about $11 and the dinner came with a small salad. The woman suggested since this was my first time eating there, I try medium spice which is what I did. This was good. It could have been spicier but I'm afraid that a total "spicy" might have overdone the spiciness. The meal was very good, very flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The chicken came on a bed of rice. I was there for about 30 minutes as service was quick and pleasant. This is a great stop if you're in St. George as a stopping off point for going to Zion National Park or Tuacahn. The butter chicken here looks like it was vomited out by the chef after he gobbled up some chicken and a stick of butter. Gave this restaurant a try while on a mission to find the best Indian food in the area. First there was no ice in the ice machine. I got medium chicken coconut. The chicken was very dry. The spice was very mild and the rice was dried out as well as the naan bread. Nothing about the meal was fresh and there is no value for the money. I would not recommend this place. read more

Despite the overpriced menu, I decided to give this place a try. I got the chicken tikki and the person I was with got coconut chicken and a side of naan. The naan seemed like a reheated pancake with garlic and butter. Naan should be included and for $2.50 should have more than one small piece. The chicken tikki curry was not very tasty and the chicken was extremely dry. Knowing rice is a staple of Indian cuisine I was hoping for something better, something more fresh. I've tried so many restaurants which serve Middle Eastern cuisine, or Indian cuisine. This was by far the worst of the worst, I had the Chicken Coconut Vegetable Curry and it was hideous.. From the presentation down to the taste, I'm not sure you can get any worse. The food looked like someone opened a can of soup and dumped it next to a small pile of rice. This is not how you serve this, so what happened to the standard side of rice and the curry in a hot pot? The frozen carrots, which I knew were frozen by their size and obvious cut, were so bland and tasted freezer burnt. The curry was just horrible and had no flavor at all. The atmosphere is terrible, and there are even furniture catalogs at the cashier you can order some furniture from if you're in need of some lol! My spouse isn't picky at all, and she was pretty upset at how terrible her food was. The waiter said they were closing at 7:30 (it was a Friday night) due to some holiday, but we saw no signs stating the early closing so we were told we should consider takeout. I noticed several tables with dirty plates, but what I was really surprised by was how much food was left on the plates. Naan is pretty tough to screw up, but the Naan was burnt on one side. This establishment needs an intervention from Robert or Gordon (chefs who turn disaster restaurants around). Don't waste your time or money here, and shame on the owners for serving this horrible food! One last gem, you walk up to the counter and order your food, and then it's delivered to you with the expectation you can just get your own water which sits on another table. That's like going into a Cafe Rio, Costa Vida or one of those type of places where you do all the work yet you're expected to leave a 20 percent tip. To the owners, I believe you should close your doors and start over, but I'd suggest some cooking and management courses at the same time. I worked in the restaurant business for over a decade, became a certified chef and managed several kitchens. This place should close up, or take a good hard long look in the mirror and consider starting over from scratch. I seriously Crave the Chicken Coconut Curry and my husband craves the Tiki Masala, of course the order is not complete without the Garlic Nan Bread. Don't let the simple exterior fool you, this place is fantastic! We spent a week in St. George and ate at many places and this was by far a favorite. We got the chana Masala, tandoori chicken, chicken tikka masala, 2 orders of flatbread and 2 orders of garlic naan and it was more than enough for a family of 3. This modern, new, simple space is brightly colored and traditional music plays just loud enough to set the tone while you're there. Order at the counter from a medium-sized menu with inexpensive-but-not-dirt-cheap Utah prices at about $8/$9 each. Living in San Francisco and a regular at Indian restaurants here twice a week, Indian is one of my top three cuisines and this place didn't disappoint at all. As with any new "might be spicy" restaurant where you don't know the chef's inclination, we ordered medium spice, which we now know is good for infrequent Indian food diners and anyone trying it for the first time. This IS Utah, after all, so if you like spicy, say so and you'll feel the heat. Ordering mild here means only a little bit of personality hits your tongue at first, but each bite finishes with a little more personality that never reaches "fire" level at all. Nevertheless, the butter chicken had a nice round personality and the chana masala was even more round tasting with a pleasant (not undercooked, not mushy) mouth feel but the beef keema mattar (yes, beef, they're Pakistani not Hindu) was the surprising standout star. The beef was tenderly dry mini strips rather than ground and each pea snapped in your mouth properly rather than being overdone. Finally, the garlic naan was wonderfully balanced. Not too much garlic and not greasy. AND it was about 6" x 8" instead of the 10" or larger rounds I see all the time so having rice and naan isn't a food-coma and carb nightmare. It's fair to say that this place pleasantly surprised us since I've spent close to six weeks in Utah in the last 20 years and most of the time have been unimpressed with the personality-free food most places offer for the sake of the local residents' palates. Whether a local or a visitor, order your heat/personality level of spice here as I've stated and you'll love it. read more

Another strip mall surprise! This small joint looks unassuming with its counter service and chalkboard menu but the food is spot on. The staff was very friendly and it's nice that they ask if you want mild, medium, or hot for spice level. My husband and I love spicy food but know better than to choose hot at an Indian restaurant. Lol. I went with medium on my butter chicken and it was awesome! Tender chunks of white meat slathered in delicious sauce with plenty of perfectly cooked rice to soak it all up. I also enjoyed the diced cucumber on the side which added refreshing flavor and texture to the dish. My husband got the coconut curry lamb, also with medium sauce, and that was delicious too. For better or worse, this is the ONLY Indian food place in the area, so that may skew the rating a little bit. As a fan of vegetarian Indian cuisine, I'm happy that the place exists. It's pretty bare-bones insude -- the walls have Indian (I assume...) scarves, handbags, & other trinkets on the walls, plus of course travel posters promoting India, but otherwise the place is pretty plain inside. You order at the front counter, looking at the menu on the chalkboard above it, then seat yourself after paying. The food was prompt, and it was pretty good. At other Indian places I've been to (hundreds of miles away...) the Naan bread usually is included with entrees, but here it's extra. Portions weren't great, but the food was good. I wish that they were busy enough to be able to offer a small lunch or dinner buffet (& that seems common to lots of other Indian restaurants in other areas, but they have a populace which support such things) but I'm at least glad I can get a quick, local fix for Indian food once a month or so. Be sure to pay attention to their operating hours! They're open for lunch, then close for a few hours, then are open for dinner for a few hours. I hope by doing this, they can sustain their business. SW Utah doesn't exactly have the right demographics for an Indian restaurant to do really, really well, but for selfish reasons (until I move outta here to a more cosmopolitan area), I sure hope the place stays in business. read more
