I've always enjoyed myself, treated people respectfully and tried to contribute positively to the environment. Unfortunately, after what happened during my most recent visit, I will not be returning. An older white male repeatedly approached me and attempted to touch me after I had clearly told him multiple times that I was not interested and wanted him to stop. I moved away from him and sat somewhere else because I simply wanted to be left alone. Before leaving, he approached me again and called me the N-word and used other racist slurs toward me. As a Black man, I was extremely offended and hurt. I became angry and responded with profanity. I'm not going to pretend I was calm after being repeatedly approached, having my boundaries ignored and then being subjected to racial slurs. I told him not to ever speak to me that way again. What was extremely disappointing was how Southern Nights handled the situation. Instead of me feeling like the person who had been harassed and racially insulted was being taken seriously, security immediately treated me as though I was the problem and repeatedly told me to leave. A young Black employee working behind the desk also told me that I was wrong. That is what I cannot understand. Where was the same concern when I was repeatedly asking another customer to leave me alone? Where was the concern when I was called the N-word? I've also personally observed the overnight employee spending significant amounts of time outside smoking while customers are inside. From my perspective, there have been times when the overnight desk was not adequately attentive to what was happening inside. That is a serious safety concern in any establishment, particularly one where conflicts can occur. I am not saying this because I want drama. I am saying it because I am a loyal customer who has spent a lot of money at this establishment, and I expected better. Racism should not be tolerated. Harassment should not be tolerated. Customers should be able to tell someone to stop touching or approaching them without becoming the person blamed when the situation escalates. Southern Nights needs to seriously examine how security and overnight staff respond to incidents involving harassment and racial abuse. I am extremely disappointed, hurt and frankly embarrassed that this is how I was treated. I will not be returning, and I want management to review the security footage from that night and investigate exactly what happened.

From there I walk over to the side and I turn around and say I'm OK thanks for asking after clearly no concern was shown. The jewelry that was presented at the front of the store was fresh and beautiful. Prices were not ridiculous either. What a selection if stylish earrings they had.
