Past that, Jax has loads of outdoor gear, fishing and hunting inventory, clothing, footwear, and even a corner for Boy and Girl scout supplies. It's all very high quality merchandise and a good value. I came in looking for some Carhartt pants, which they don't currently stock. I left very impressed and with a cool and nicely priced little Gerber knife. I found store staff to be friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I'll be back in Ames in a few months (or so), and I'm be sure to stop in again. I'm sure there will be new stuff to admire or goods that I missed during the last visit. And there's no need to drive all the way to Des Moines.

This store SCREAMS Fort Dodge. It has pretty much everything you would expect from a Target. A decent selection of electronics, the same clothing, household items and toys every other Target has. They have a decent grocery section (not as vast as a Super Target - hence the "Super" moniker). Even found Templeton Rye on our last visit. But again, remember, you can put a Target in Fort Dodge, but you can't take the Fort Dodge out of the Target. Does that make sense? If you can deal with the citizens of the fine city of Fort Dodge, then you will have no problem dealing with this Target. Unless, of course, you want to take advantage of the Starbucks located in the store. We went to this Target on December 23rd. As you can imagine, it was rather busy. After selecting our items, we split up - my girlfriend got in line to purchase our goods, I went to get in line at the Starbucks to get a cup of coffee. In the entire time it took her to wait in line and check out ON DECEMBER 23RD, the good folks at the Starbucks counter had helped exactly ZERO people. ZERO. I repeat, ZER-O. The idiocy that operates this counter is absolutely stunning. And it's not just the holiday rush. I've been the only person in line and waited 5 minutes before. This is one Target that should never have been allowed a Starbucks counter, because they simply do not have the mental capacity to operate it. Other than that, it's a pretty darn good Target.

An employee helped me to the car with some heavy stuff. In loading my purchases into the trunk, she ripped out the wires to the backup camera. I said immediately to her, "Hey, you just broke my backup camera." She said a quick, "Sorry" and trotted back to the store at closing time. I called in to the management immediately upon getting home. The video apparently told the managers which employee it was. I had to return twice to have two separate managers look at it. I was told that I had to get two estimates for repair--a bit of a hassle, but I did it. Both estimates were hundreds of dollars. The managers offered me a $50 gift certificate. I turned it down. I am shocked that this company has such poor customer service. I will probably have to file in small claims court.

About the only strange thing was the kids play area, it was filled with young guys - mid to late teens, and about 8-10 of them. They seemed to be hanging out in there, and when we came near, they made no attempt to move. I hadn't planned to use the play area unless it was amazing (with a good slide, etc), but since it wasn't I wasn't too disappointed, but it was strange and there was really no room for anyone to go in and play with their children.
