I was super confused and just curious about what they had so I was delighted that they were more than happy to explain! The sign outside is what initially caught my eye and i'm glad I tried it! The staff is approachable and will provide information and recipes. The selection of offerings, fish, seafood, and prepared goods are great. They even have some frozen offerings that are less or comparable to store and major brand offerings. The crab balls, crab dip, and fish are great. This was our second visit. I feel like the customer service is ok - the first visit I felt like they just simply didn't want to take out order. This visit felt similar until a young man working there finally greeted us and assisted with the order. We've only purchased fish + seasonings from here. My first experience with Bon Air Seafood was yesterday. I must say that I am very impressed. My order of eighteen crab cakes was waiting for me at the expected time, the staff gave me excellent instructions on preparing the crab, and the crab cakes were absolutely delicious. My guests were effusive in their compliments. I also bought the shrimp cheese ball which was also a big hit at my gathering of friends and family. I have been here many times and they never disappoint. They always have a well stocked case of fresh fish. The variety is great. The prices are a bit high, but for the quality of the fish, I refuse to complain. I also always get a small container of their seafood salad deluxe, which is full of shrimp, and blue crab meat and also their tuna salad any time I go because they are probably the best tasting recipes I have ever had. My experience here was horrible. Where I walked in, there was a old white man and a old white woman behind the "counter". Both were serving other patrons when I walked in but, the old man looked up and observed me entering the building. By the time the old man finished with his customer, a white man had come in and walked up to the "counter" beside me to look at the seafood offerings in the refrigerated case/counter. After handing his customer their receipt, the old white man asked the white man who came in after me if he could help him. Of course, the customer proceeded to give his order [as he obviously did not know that I had not been helped]. So, I interjected to let the employee know that I was there first. He looked at me as if I had three heads, got an attitude and then said, "well, what do you want?" As I turned to leave, I replied, "you to treat everyone the same." I don't know if this was racism, sexism or both "isms" but, it's old. I don't think its too much to ask that we ALL retire the unwarranted attitudes and stereotypes and learn to love our neighbors as ourselves. read more

Customer service was ok. I felt like I was inconveniencing them when asking to make an order a week in advanced for Thanksgiving. I was told I should buy the clam chowder now and freeze it for next week. I bought a pint of chowder (8.99) for tasting (since they didn't offer that). I called in on a Saturday morning as I was hosting a crab boil in the early evening for 12 people to see if I could reserve a bushel of crabs. They were extremely accommodating and I was able to reserve the bushel to be picked up later that day. I came in to pick up my bushel which was ready and also decided to pick up some raw shrimps for the crab boil. They were very helpful and knowledgeable as I was asking a lot of questions on serving portions and how to serve. They have a lot of locally sourced sides and dips inside. The workers are friendly. The store is small and clean. They keep seasonings, marinades, and print outs of recipes for you to try. They even let you taste test products before buying. I have purchased swordfish, mahi mahi, shrimp, salmon, and their crab salad which are all delicious and fresh. One day I went after work, Christmas Eve and I got there right in time. By the time I left there was a line going out of the door. Usually it's not that busy when I go, but every store is busy before the holiday. And he stated that it is homemade and sometimes it might be different But in all the years it has always been the same . So I asked could I bring it back and he stated no cause it homemade . So I suggest that you ask for a taste of what ever you purchase from here to make sure that the homemade taste for that day is the one you remember .
