Yelp tried to tell me but I didn't pay attention. Lesson learned. I'm a seafood snob. Grew up in Charleston, we would get our own oysters, crabs, shrimp, fish, so I know what good seafood is. Richmond has some respectable seafood but nothing like I had a Shoreline today. Did I mention my husband grew up in the Boston area? For him, lobster and clams are a weeknight dinner and his uncle, who was a lobster fisherman, would cringe at the lobster we've been eating. When you're away from the source, you have to make do. Not anymore. Shoreline Market has amazingly simple, well-prepared high quality food. And they do it for a decent price. I have a new favorite seafood place in Richmond. Came for lunch on a Saturday. We ended up getting the crudo, which was a tuna poke; lobster roll; clam sandwich; potatoes and salad, plus a bottle of Sauvignon blanc. Everything tasted great and was clearly masterfully prepared so the seafood was the star. All in our bill was around $90, totally reasonable for what we got. On the way out we bought more food to have at home. Fish stew and pimento cheese and another seafood soup. We work from home and are super close and HUGE fans of seafood, and the prepared foods they have is reasonably priced and fresh, so when we don't eat at the counter, we will take something home. I'm traveling this week and if I was home, I would have bought a few more items, such as the shrimp and artichoke pasta. We were told about these 10-course dinners they do so we booked one in May. So excited. I'm sad I didn't come sooner. I knew Shoreline opened but I assumed it was on the side of Patterson close to town. Glad to know they are right around the corner! read more

Really cool vibe and nice people. Allison served us up a lunch menu snack of Chesapeake oyster and bacon stew, and a Gulf Rock Shrimp and crayfish roll. Tasty work by Enrique and Josh in the kitchen. Wine flowed easily at the curved bar overlooking the kitchen. There are refrigerators loaded with seafood salads and veggies, seafood fresh and frozen. Shoreline Seafood is the real deal. Great spot to eat in, but I keep coming back for the fresh seafood to go. Picked up a beautiful Hawaiian Bigeye Tuna, seared it rare and served it cold over udon salad -- fresh, clean, phenomenal. Beat catch in town. read more

Hit up Shoreline for a weekday lunch. Cool little place. It's a seafood market with a limit dining menu. A little spendy for a lunch but very tasty. The bluefin tuna BBQ sandwich was especially tasty and the sticky rice fries with some kind of aioli also delish. No complaints. They have a little wine market inside as well as some grab and go items and a little bar to sit at. They do serve beer (no drafts) and wine by the glass or bottle. My wife and I absolutely adore this place. We get a lot of pantry items from here such as canned fish and clams and calamari. The food they serve during lunch is top notch. This wonderful place has only been open for two weeks and already appears to be wildly successful. It is owned and operated by Davis Whitby, former owner of the Yellow Umbrella, also a very successful seafood market. This market has a large selection of fresh fish and seafood as well as high-end tinned goods. My wife and I sat at the counter for lunch, happily we arrived early as it became rather busy. The counter was the only place to eat. We both had the Jumbo Lump Crab Salad Roll ($21). I had a side of Yukon Gold Salt Potatoes ($5) and she had the Sticky Rice Fries ($6). Everything was fresh, tasty and nicely presented. And when we paid, surprise!, there is no tipping here. The staff is properly compensated. This is a wonderful market/restaurant. The service was outstanding. As mentioned, arrive early if you can because the counter seats are limited. read more

Owners of Yellow Umbrella sold Patterson location and opened this spot. Tons of fish and shellfish to buy to take home, prepared meals, bread and wine. Seating at the bar and a few tables. I am a fairly decent home cook. Fortunately, the most important element of an excellent dish is not technique but the product. And Shoreline has outstanding fish. Two days ago, they were filleting a very large striped base (rockfish) that had been delivered that morning. I asked for a piece, which was cut directly from the body. Incredibly fresh with a slightest sweetness when cooked. This was not a one off experience in terms of the quality fish I've bought there since their opening. The consistency is remarkable. Expectations were high. Expectations were met. Fresh seafood offerings are amazing, and the display makes it tough to choose from the amazing options. Prepared food selection is great as well. Pricing is consistent with what one would expect for higher-end fresh seafood. I'd say prepared food pricing was certainly better than expected. What a wonderful addition to the Richmond food scene! A fish market and gourmet restaurant in one place. We came to get a beautiful piece of rockfish and stayed for lunch at the bar. Andrea the chef explains what is to offer on the short but delicious menu. My husband chose the grilled fish sandwich of the day which was halibut. I chose the smoked oyster and bacon chowder which came with homemade oyster crackers. We shared the rather large green salad. Next time we will be more adventurous! read more

The market is lovely and the fresh seafood is delicious. I will disagree with the preparation of their New England clam roll though, strangely seasoned and way too salty. In New England the whole belly clams are simply lightly breaded and fried, served with tarter or cocktail sauce. I'll go back to buy fresh fish, but no clam roll. read more
