This is not the only time improper toileting happened. Photo 2: is this how you would remind your staff about how to store q-tips? Photo 3: this is the bathing chair my family member was left alone in - with wheels unlocked - and subsequently fell out of, breaking their shoulder. Please, heed this warning and keep looking for a board & care that actually cares. Since moving my family member, they have not had one UTI, not one fall nor broken bone & have help from people who do not view them as a burden. Shame on Laguna Palms.

This despite an ongoing plumbing problem that has plagued the facility for the past several days. The room was nicely cleaned prior to move in, with a new refrigerator and microwave put into operation, and tested. The move itself went smoothly and the tv/wifi service seems to be working satisfactorily. Food quality and service is reported as adequate, but nothing more. Finding a reasonably priced retirement home isn't easy in 2025. As an example, Freedom Village requires a cash outlay of over one hundred thousand dollars and monthly fees exceeding three thousand dollars for a tiny studio apartment. Meridian requires no huge upfront cost. In the case of my friend's mother, an 850:square foot one bedroom apartment with a view is under $4500:per month. Transportation to nearby shops is available, a hair salon is on the premises, and exercise classes are available. So far, no complaints.

Upon entering, it was very nice and welcoming. I had an appointment with Brett to tour the facility and discuss what it had to offer. He was exceptionally nice and knowledgeable and as we walked through the facility he called the residents by name. I was very impressed with that. I was looking at two bedroom apartments and they were very nice and you could choose your wall color, carpet. The grounds and pool were very nice also. I plan to go back to revisit and have a meal. So far Freedom Village is at the top of my list.

Secondly, you probably already know that almost all of these facilities suck and are many flavors of sketchy. NOT this place. The Orchards gives off a whole different and positive vibe from the start when you walk in the main entrance. Everything is clean, actually clean, even the patient bathrooms, closets, behind the doors, everywhere is clean. The ratio of staff to patients is SO MUCH better than other facilities my family member has been too. I believe there's maximum 50 patients. The bedrooms are next level. They have 4-5 options ranging from a shared room with two people, to completely private with your own bathroom and living room/lounge area, obviously at a higher price point. But even the shared bedrooms are awesome as they have a closet/cabinet that divides the room, not just a sheet. Makes it so much better to have that division. ***Most importantly the Rehab staff is AMAZING!!!*** The amount of effort and thought they put into the individuals rehabilitation program is far greater than any other facility we have been to. They aren't trying to milk the process and allow people to just sit doing non productive activities just so they can bill for it. They're constantly assessing and evolving the game plan as they go. 10/10 best team of therapists. hands down. bar none. The staff communicates extremely clearly and reach out if they have pertinent info in regards to my family members health, progress, and well being. Which is something I've never experienced, usually I have to track people down and it's like pulling teeth to get answers or info. The food is good, and comparably to other places it's the best menu I've seen. Don't get me wrong it's not gourmet living but they have solid options. When you see a plate of food, it actually looks a cooked meal, not school lunch slop. They also have off menu items like sandwiches and what not if your family member is a picky eater. If you got this far in my Mega novel of a review then you obviously are deep in the process and looking for answers. Again, sending you all my good energy and if you can get your family member into The Orchards, don't hesitate and end up in another depressing SH**hole, pull the trigger and give your family member the best chance at success. Sara K, Elizabeth (Liz), and Dee were exceptional--compassionate, attentive, and always making sure my mom felt cared for and supported. Heather, Fiona, and Lisa were equally amazing in PT and OT; their expertise, encouragement, and dedication played a huge role in her recovery. Our only regret is that we can't return on a private-pay basis to continue PT/OT, because my mom left stronger than when she arrived.
