So glad we found this gem. Such a wonderful experience. Laid back ambiance, with attentive service. Our server did a wonderful job at making sure we understood what we were ordering and we really appreciated the extra and care and help. Truly, EVERY dish was incredible!! From the appetizer, to the wine, followed by the main dishes, and dessert. You can tell there's so much love and care put into each dish. We're tourist, and we loved finding a spot where patrons knew the owner and staff, it made the restaurant feel warm and welcoming.

    Steak and potatoes!

Small place, but waiters/owner are most welcoming. We ate on a Friday night, so when the locals came in it became... LOUD! Staff seemed to know everyone who walked through the door. We ordered steak Ala florin tone for 4 and got two huge t-bones with roasted Potatoes (awesome potatoes). Wonderful meal.

Amazing Bruschetta! We ate it so fast I forgot to take a photo until we had one left. Great flavors

During our vacation--a tour of Italy, our family dinner at Alfredo was one of our favorite meals! We took a tour from Milan to Rome and when we were in Florence, we had a chance to find a place on our own for dinner (many of the dinners were pre-arranged with the tour). I checked on Yelp and this place had good reviews so I decided to book an online reservation for 8 people (the online system is pretty easy to use, through their website). We arrived about 15 minutes before they opened (at 7pm) and were the first ones in. The staff were very friendly, they welcomed us right in and were attentive to all of our needs. I was fortunate to use some of my broken Italian (via Google Translate) to explain that we had a reservation, that there were some dietary requests (no dairy), and we had no trouble ordering. The waiter did understand English, which helped. The menu had English as well. Aside from the great service, the food was really excellent (see photos). the pasta dishes had plenty of seafood and the noodles were perfectly al dente. We all Loved the Bruschetta--it might have been the best I've ever had (at least in the top 5!). I had the Osso Buco, which was soft, flavorful, juicy, and the perfect temperature. Others in our party loved the Lasagna and Codfish with Livornaise sauce as well. As other reviewers have noted, a lot of locals come here--by the time we finished dinner, everyone else in the place was speaking Italian. Young and old, families, and it looked like tables of old friends were enjoying their dinners here. This place was only about a 10 minute walk from our hotel (we stayed at Hotel Athenaeum). --------TL;DR-------- PROS: Excellent food quality and flavors, reasonable prices, friendly staff. English speaking staff and menu. CONS: none BOTTOM LINE: if you're looking for a great Italian meal where the locals go, I'd recommend trying Alfredo. Get the Bruschetta!

This restaurant was close to my hotel and us pretty good Yelp reviews so I gave it a try. From the name I thought I would have tons of Alfredo choices but there weren't many. I ordered the salmon and it was excellent. Not only was my food great, every plate that came out looked appetizing as well. The server was very nice and helped explain the dishes. The menu was in both Italian and English. My friend friend ordered the seafood spaghetti and couldn't even wait for it to cool off because it was so good, haha!

My brother went to this place 30 years ago and took a picture. I took that picture on my first trip to Italy to share it with the owners. I received a phenomenal meal which tasted just as good as my brother described it. This is a family run place that's outside the tourist area of Florence. I was the only tourist at this place. Had some super fresh seafood pasta and the steak Florentine. Everything tasted great and I definitely would have returned if our schedule wasn't so tight. Couldn't say enough about the graciousness of the owners and how they received me. Warm and delightful just like their food!

Not many places actually have yelp reviews, but this one had so many with great feedback. The food looked amazing. When we arrived we thought they were closed, but that is because they moved to a bigger restaurant a few doors down. When we arrived at the front, the gentleman asked if we had reservations, which we didn't. He directed us to the line with no reservations. The line was a bit long, but doubled in size almost immediately. It also started pouring rain during this time and we were ALL getting drenched even with an umbrella. The non reservation line was not really moving unless people left the line. We waited a good hour. As we inched closer and closer, the lines were now both outrageous and getting seated seemed like a distant memory. The staff came out and gave out Sangria and Bread bites to help those in line feel welcome. We did finally get seated and we were so glad we waited, it was worth it! We ordered the Spaghetti Carbonara, the lobster spaghettini and the chicken breast with roasted potatoes. We also ordered sangria. Everything was so good and our total was 83 €. Prices were unbelievable! We were amazed at the quality, the service and how large the restaurant they relocated to was. It was like a well oiled machine. The food coming out quickly and efficiently. I will 100% be back if I return to Florence!

I went to the internet for the best Florentine steak and Trattoria Mario consistently popped up as highly rated. I reached out to the restaurant via email to make a reservation for a Friday. I wanted to get the earliest reservation possible, so the restaurant reserved me for 7:30pm, which was when they open. I was advised to show up on time - even a 2 minute delay would make me miss my reservation. I can see why Trattoria Mario was strict on reservations. They open on the dot, and then a staff member calls out each reservation at 7:30pm like a roll call. Seemed to me that if you don't have a reservation then you're out of luck, because there was no waitlist and the restaurant small and space was limited. Service was great. Our waitress was highly attentive and got us in/out of the restaurant quickly, which was what we were going for. Food came out in a timely manner. We ordered the penne al ragu, salad misto, and a Florentine steak to share. The penne was perfectly al dente, and I liked the meat sauce. I did find the pasta sauce salty, but it could've came from the grated parmesan. The saltiness was not a fluke. The Florentine steak was just pure beef and a ton of salt... too much salt for my liking. I also decided that I'm not a fan of Florentine steak in general.

Diving right into the food, my meal started with their Carabaccia, a traditional Florentine onion soup that dates back to when Leonardo da Vinci was slurping soup. It was a wonderful start to the evening. Feeling adventurous, or maybe just hungry, our group decided to share their Bistecca Alla Fiorentina "Tradiziozale", a hefty Florentine T-bone Beef-Steak. Wow, that was incredible. They brought out a 1.4kg very thick steak for our approval before cooking. We approved, and agreed in having it served rare. I ate so much steak. Our server was great, helping us navigate the menu that resulted in this meal.

ALL of us loved their food! So much so that my Dad insisted we go there again the next day. Later in the trip we were looking for pizza since gustapizza didn't work out and their pizza was also amazing! Fair prices, excellent food, in a tourist area, in Italy???? Never heard of her until now! Besides the different pizzas, I had the Cinghale which was incredible! The Lasagna also fabulous and the spaghetti for my picky daughter. With outside seating for people watching or inside and a menu you can't go wrong with, I highly recommend this Trattoria. Only attaching the pizza photo because the other food was takeout back to the Airbnb and I never took a photo sadly.

I shared two pasta dishes with my daughter (the handmade Pappardelle with Maremman Wild Boar Ragu and the Carbonara). Both were very good but not the best we've had. Appetizers were good: Salad with pecorino cheese, oranges, pine nuts and walnuts. We ordered the Octopus appetizer as well. The Octopus was beautifully prepared and presented, but didn't have much flavor. They nailed the Espresso Martini! One of the best I've ever had! We ordered the huge Florentine steak to share between 4 of us and it was more than enough. Ultimately what knocked this review down to 3 stars and what was really disappointing was how they targeted us as tourists with the note at the bottom of the bill (see picture). It read "GRATUITY NOT INCLUDED" in all CAPITAL LETTERS. Also note it was the only thing in English on the entire bill. If it had been our first meal in Florence we might have fallen for this tactic, however it was our last. There's definitely some hostility towards tourists in Florence. Don't get me wrong, some of the people and restaurants we've visited have been very welcoming and friendly. However we recently saw tourist taxes go up significantly, and then you see tricks like this on the bill at La Giostra. This was the ONLY restaurant in Florence where we encountered this. Once jet fuel prices make flying a relic of the past I would argue that some Europeans who depend on tourists for their livelihood may not miss our presence but will certainly miss our spending. Save your money and go research the many other places to eat while in Florence.
