I now know why service with more than just a smile can have even more meaning than great food and a cool environment. Our waitress, Lani, was so passionate and having so much fun in her job that we were convinced she was the owner of the place! She was not shy in sharing her opinion of the wine we should be drinking nor of having a chat in between serving others, we walked out feeling like a regular of the place - still bubbling from the friendliness and genuine concern for ensuring we had a good time. But I also can't go past the food. Here are 3 key finger lickingly good tips for you when dining for dinner here: - Sharing is caring and worth it for anyone on a budget or who gets food envy (yours truly). But don't feel limited to the Bar/Share menu, you can share the pizza, the mains the smaller plates and you'll be full from 4-5 dishes between 2! - If you like unusual flavour combinations, that is still accessible to the normal palette (ie. not offal) this is the place for you. Gin and beetroot cured salmon or Fig & Proscuitto Pizza, even the mushroom stuffed baby squid all were such simple concoctions but so well flavoured. - Get there at sunset, it is really well enclosed on the balcony outside and if you have a coat in winter you could easily sit outside and watch the beautiful sunset over Semaphore beach + score 100 romance points too! Like a kid in a candy shop who just found the best sweets tucked away in the back of the shop, I am still hyped up about Lickerish and can't wait to save up my pennies till my next visit with friends.

Beautiful space, warm and comfortable inside when outside is dreary, but when the sun is shing, get out there on the balcony. The only way to eat! Grab a bottle of something, and feast on a couple of platters. Its run by old 'Greedy Goose' hosts John and Justine Hall, and it has the same attention and love of their food after all these years! I had zucchini flowers (with cheese!) which were devine, the cured salmon melts in the mouth and theres a range of pizzas, most of which can be made gluten free (with a $3 surcharge) Great place, great food, great service - everything I look for, and more!

Fast forward 30 years and its a little quieter, but menu is much the same and the decor is almost back in vogue again! That might sound like a criticism but in fact that is the E&C's strength - no nonsense steaks, schnitzels, seafood, a good salad bar, and a reasonable wine list, not to mention bar prices for drinks. We ate on a Friday lunchtime and from list of rump, sirloin, t-bone, porterhouse, rib-eye and eye-fillet steak, we ordered the Filet Mignon (yep another blast from the past - that's fillet steak wrapped in bacon). It came cooked to order and was a 300gm portion that was 3cm thick and full of flavour. Coupled with the hot vegetables or salad bar and a bottle of Mitchell Peppertree Shiraz, it was a simple but enjoyable meal. You order at the counter and service was attentive and friendly. If you are wanting a steak fix, definitely a low key alternative to the more trendy, and expensive steak houses in town.

If you need some extra luck, there are loads of elephant statues here, and they all have their trunks up. It's all about the vibe.

The staff were very friendly and efficient and the service very good. We were in a group of 6. The food was of high quality and there were only positive remarks about size of the meals and quality from the rest of our group. The problem was with one of the shared meals that my friend and I had. We decided to have the "Barramundi and prawns" at a cost of $70.00. After waiting over an hour (all the others in our group already had their main courses), the meal finally came out on one plate which we had to divide up on our individual plates. It looked lovey! The issue with both of us, was the size of the shared meal we had to split up! There were ONLY 4 prawns! We had 2 each!! Mine were over cooked and tough. The barramundi was delicious, but certainly not enough for 2 people! One person could have eaten the whole lot easily. We certainly didn't get value for our $70.

You can sit at formally set dining tables (wine glasses and all) or with in the bistro (which is just as pleasant). The atmosphere is lovely and well decorated. The menu has enough schmancy words on it to make it sound like the meals are going to be gour-met enough so that they can justify asking for $25 for a salmon main in a pub. The mains aren't bad. Food is above average pub fare and they even fry their mash potato into balls. Only complaint? Not enough salad/chips for the price of the mains that you are paying for. After all, we aren't in the Queen's dining hall... I had a very well cooked Atlantic Salmon dish on a bed of beetroot risotto (that my friends delightfully described to look like "kittens insides" before I ate it). But unfortunately that was it. Aside from a few bits of fennel and orange it was basically fish and rice. Would have loved a heavier garnish to make the most of the dish. Not sure what the bar is like in this place but when we went to check it out at 11pm on a Saturday night after a show at the Thebbie it was closed! Maybe people don't go out in Torrensville on a Saturday...

Well, I had seen this place around, so I thought that it might be cool to visit it. The cute little burger bar has a funky interior to offset the seedy surrounds and a menu with a great range of choices for lunch and dinner (if you dare to come after dark..!) Today I ordered the Cheese Banga and a side of #tags (a variation on chips, deep fried pieces of potato in the shape of a # symbol). I was impressed by the quick and friendly service and when my burger hit the table I was impressed by its size - at only $8, (plus $4 for the #tags) it certainly was worth the price! The enormous pattie went right to the edges of the well sized bun and the first bite of the burger was delicious - cheesy, saucey and yummy! I did notice that the pattie itself was a bit bland however it was redeemed with the addition of flavours from the sauces. The accompanying #tags were a nice difference to chips and I loved how crispy they were however they were pretty greasy and could have done with some kind of interesting seasoning... I think I'll certainly be back - and hopefully they start to get a bit creative with the burger patties to push the review up to a five star!
