I've been in Goldsboro for 5+ years & I'm just getting into them. That Mango Habanero sauce is amazing.

My co-workers and I ate here a few times for lunch during the week. Granted this place is a heck of a lot better than Taco Bell it definately is not a Qdoba or Chipotle. I love Qdoba and was spoiled with their greatness when I was in Florida. However this place does make some pretty good burritos. I usually get the regular for lunch and that is it. Chicken, black beans, rice, tomatoes, lettuce, cheese, and of course salsa. It is extra if you want a drink, and they have sweet tea or fountain soda. If you do not get someone that wraps the burrito well then it will be pretty messy to eat. Also the lines here tend to be long at lunchtime and there are not many places to sit at. I got the regular size burrito (they have 3 sizes: junior, regular, and Beast lol) with shredded marinated steak, grilled onions and green peppers, cilantro leaves, shredded cheese, and refried beans on a flour tortilla (came to 6.24 total w/o a drink). They have several tortilla options as well (I remember a green one and sundried tomato). The burrito was good and a perfect size. A little messy (drippy) but food isn't always neat. Tried it on a recommendation from a local. I have never found decent Mexican style food in NC so I figured I'd try it. Eating places in a strip mall can go either way in my experience. I had the regular burrito with steak and shrimp ($1 extra). The Beast as they call it the size of a baby's arm. Like Subway for burritos pick your tortilla flavor: regular, spinach, honey wheat,Cheddar Jalapeño and garlic herb. Then your meats, and rice etc. The Cilantro lime rice tasted fine, I've had better. Lots of sauces and salsas to choose from. Price was great for the food you get. Staff was polite but standoffish. The place was clean. Workers all used gloves. They have a couple of tables for outside dining in addition to the indoor seating but when it's 100 degrees why? Overall not a bad place. I would recommend it and I would return. There is a Chipotle opening near here soon so don't know if this place will survive but I hope they do. read more

I ordered delivery through a delivery service app. After my first time eating Bonfire's food, my girl and I agreed that we would go back. The food was great with a clear attention to detail. Everything was packaged perfectly for delivery and all of the toppings and dips were SUPERB. I got the fajita/pepper steak mixed burrito and my girl got the chicken quesadilla. Both were fantastic and executed perfectly. Beautifully seasoned meat that was plentiful. Nacho cheese, salsa, and refried beans all nicely done and of high quality. The guacamole was fresh and literally balanced PERFECTLY. Jalapeños were fresh and spicy, unlike jalapeños I've had at other restaurants. If we are comparing bonfire to its competitors in Goldsboro. I will now Choose bonfire everytime. The food seemed less out of the package and the price was low. I felt like I got more than my money's worth in quality. I am very hard to please, but bonfire won me over. I liked the meal so much, I felt like I owed the restaurant acknowledgement after I was done. Since it was delivered, I was going to call and let them know how much we enjoyed it, but I figured this review would be the better option. I have been to this establishment on several occasions and each time I go I order the regular burrito. It has the same set up as chipotle with the serving line but they have more options to choose from. My most recent visit I got the large Chicken and peppered steak quesadilla with a side of chips and salsa for 13 dollars which is a really great price for the amount of food you get. My food was hot , the meat was juicy the marinate they use on the steak was running dripping out after each bite. My meal included a side of sour cream , their mild sauce, and some guacamole. Overall I was completely satisfied with my meal how cheap it was, the flavors were on point. Compared to chipotle it is way cheaper for what you get the food taste better and you get a lot more options whether it's the rice, the beans, the different style tortillas, and even their 9.99 entree, drink and special. They do an amazing job at providing you with tasty suggestions that keeps you from ordering the same meal over and over again. I tried the crushed tortilla chips in my burrito the very first time I went and it was new to me but it made me look forward tomt future visits. Let's get to the main part of this review. The establishment has moved from its smaller location to a bigger one to accommodate the influx of people who stop by which is a good. The establishment is clean, spacious, and cozy. They have a brand new kitchen and you can see everything that is going on from the staff prepping the food to them bringing it to the serving line. In a sad chapter of my life, I was one of the unfortunate who have, at one time or another, found themselves living in the hell-hole that is Goldsboro. For the last year or so of my time there, this little burrito bar was a rare silver lining. Is it awesome? No, not quite. But it was pretty good most of the time (though the meats were occasionally dry & overdone from being warmed too long). I don't understand the constant comparisons to Chipotle in the other reviews. I'm afraid no one has yet revealed to the other reiewers that Chipotle is garbage. Honestly, is there anyone that can eat such stuff? Anyway, from Bonfire's, my weapon of choice was a steak & black bean burrito on sundried tomato tortilla, with rice, shredded cheese, cheese sauce, pico de gallo, jalapeño, lime juice and (I think) a mango habanero sauce. After hearing that this was THE PLACE to go for a burrito, and that it was even better than Chipotle, I figured I should definitely check it out. I'm so glad I did, but for all the wrong reasons. On the suggestion of my brother-in-law and his friend, my husband and I opted for Bonfire over our original decision to get salads at Ruby Tuesday. We are huge Chipotle, Qdoba, etc. fans, so we knew we would love this too. Boy were we wrong. I ordered the bowl (not on the menu; I had to ask for no tortilla) with rice, black beans, grilled veggies, cheese, lettuce, onion, cilantro, tomato and mild salsa, with sour cream and guac (which were both an extra charge). I figured I couldn't go wrong. Unfortunately my rice was barely cooked through and the guacamole seemed like it might have been days old. I couldn't finish the meal due to the hard rice and overall disappointing flavors. My husband ordered the regular burrito on a flour tortilla with chicken, pico, verde sauce, rice, cilantro, cheese, and grilled veggies. He too had barely cooked rice. Also to his dismay, the verde sauce was actually more like a sweet and sour sauce. hmmmm. He actually had to smother the burrito with green tabasco in order to get through it. We looked around to survey everything while we slowly tried to consume the almost inedible and noticed that most of the ingredients were not fresh or homemade. The tortillas are made off-site, the chips came out of a plastic bag, and the guacamole was aged (not sure if they make it there or not). I don't usually review a place after only one visit, but this visit was so poor that we felt it necessary to share our experience. To be fair, as this was our first and only visit, if we ever go back I will be sure to update this review. Decided to give it a shot since I was craving a carne asada burro. I was pretty disappointed. Tortilla was barely warmed up. Meat was warm but the toppings are cold so it didn't go well together. I would prefer eating at chipotle and I really don't care for chipotle. Their salsa wasn't hot and tortillas were not like the ones from back home (Arizona). Might give it another shot in another couple of weeks and try different combos? read more

We may not have all your fancy 5 stars and big name chain restaurants, but if you can get over yourself for 1 minute....ok, I will quit now. With all that being said, I give Bonfire's a solid three stars. As I've already stated, it's not Chipotle (yes, I have ventured outside of Podunk, USA and tried your big-city eateries) but it's not half bad either. I will agree with other reviewers on this point: it is a little pricey. I feel its a little ridiculous to charge .79 cents extra for guacomole (.59 for sour cream), but that doesn't detract from the fact that it is a pretty good burrito. Be sure to check 'em out on Wednesdays, as the special is shrimp burritos - my favorite! IT ISN'T CHIPOTLE, but it'll do in a pinch. read more

Pricey but good. I've been here a few times when I visited my boyfriend's family while I was in school. I love the hot sauce they have available on the table. I always get a chicken burrito on a traditional tortilla (no spicy ingredients on mine but the table sauce). The apple tortilla dessert isn't quite good but they do have dessert. I used to eat here for lunch all the time in the time I lived in Goldsboro. I have yet to find a place with more options to but on a burritto. Yes I love Chipotle but this is a different taste than the chain burritto like Chipotle or Qdoba. Great tasting burrittos and gigantic size so well worth the money. Saying that this place is better than Chipotle is not really saying much. Chipotle leaves a lot to be desired. Bonfires is not the perfect tortilla bar, but I enjoy eating there and so does my family. It's the only place I go for Mexican(-ish) food in the entire town. The only major complaint I have about them is that sometimes the food is overly salty. There is enough seating for groups of 4 people or under -- more than that and you'll need to get two tables. The restaurant is also really small, so be aware you'll probably be pretty close to the door and keep the weather in mind when you decide to dine in. The prices aren't super cheap but they aren't unreasonable either. If you're looking for a quick lunch or dinner under $10, this is a good place to visit. read more

When people are passing through and ask what places they need to check out here in Goldsboro- Bonfires is always my first recommendation. Hands down one of my favorite locally owned places to eat! I usually get a burrito bowl but have also tried the quesadilla and regular burrito- all of which are great! You get to choose what meat you want and there is a great selection of tortillas, vegetables, sauces, and a variety of toppings. They have rotating specials throughout the week- Monday's are our favorite because they feature their spicy barbecue chicken which is delicious and they also thank their military customers by giving 20% off of their order- which they do for First Responders on Friday's as well! Fast, good, healthy food. It's similar to a Moe's but locally owned. Food seems fresh with lots of options to put in the burrito. There are different sizes (3) and different tortillas ( tomato, spinach, flower...). Friendly staff/ owners. Clean place.
