Blessed are the bland... If you've ever wondered what it would feel like to eat lunch inside a nursing home chapel that recently pivoted to "Mexican cuisine" after a failed run as a Chinese buffet, wonder no more. Your answer is right here. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted not by the inviting smells of sizzling carne asada or warm tortillas, but by the oddly funereal tones of what I can only describe as Christian elevator music. Think "A Mighty Fortress is Our God" demo loop playing from a department store Casio keyboard. Messianic Muzak. The foyer proudly displayed a Bible verse, written on a whiteboard with green ink which I suppose was meant to set the tone. And it did. Unfortunately, the tone was "Preachy, and vaguely judgmental" as if the being washed in the Blood of the Lamb smelled faintly of disinfectant and disappointment. I ordered the steak fajitas, and let me tell you-these weren't sizzling, they were suffering. The steak was sliced so thin I suspect they were trying to hide just how tough it was. I've had more tender bites of beef jerky. No seasoning. No cheese. No love. Just some limp peppers and sautéed onions they did somehow manage to get right. And the décor? Imagine your old high school guidance counselor's office had a baby with a strip mall DMV-and then decided to serve tacos. Drooping acoustic ceiling tiles, sad thrift store paintings that lacked scale and were only barely Mexican adjacent adorned the otherwise blank walls. The entire dining room had that unmistakable feeling that something else used to happen here... but whatever it was, it was better than this. To cap it all off, the prices were nowhere near value conscious. I wouldn't have felt good about this meal if they'd paid me to eat it, let alone the full fare check I got at the end. The service, that was actually good. My server was efficient, polite, responsive, and (I think) would have apologized if he could have. I didn't make a big deal out of it, though I am sure he could not have missed the disappointment on my face. Look, if you're craving great Mexican food, or even just a decent lunch, keep driving. My family is done with this restaurant!! The prices are outrageous since my last visit! Probably why I haven't returned but my mother wanted to go. Dry tasteless tacos! A side of refried beans which is supposed to come with the meal anyways was $5!!! And if you want tomatoes that'll be an additional 50 cents which should come on the tacos also!! I tried La Paz last night for the first time. The atmosphere is cute, spa like music playing which I found slightly odd- but sit down and fast food-esq take out available. Sweet tea refills a plenty. The cheese dip is exactly that, cheese dip from a can. Which is quite surprising after tasting the most amazing hot sauce I have ever had--which is house made. The perfect combo of flavor, spice and heat. This alone is what will bring me back. The California Burrito with steak was light and delicious, super fresh ingredients!! The worse food I've eaten in at least 10 years .If you look at most of my Reviews I try to find something positive to say .The only positive I can say about La Paz food is that the Water tasted Good ... My husband ordered a taco salad .IT CAME WITHOUT LETTUCE and the taco shell was burned . I ordered a Mushroom quesadilla .It was SWIMMING in a bath of grease .It looked nasty .They re-cooked it ...It was not good.Almost tasteless . The prominent flavor was still just oil . Finally --the black beans were firm .My husband who is Latina said they tasted like canned beans that have been warmed up and that is a very accurate description .They black beans did have a little flavor in the bean " soup" .I think they may have added a little broth or a spice packet . Normally I try to give all restaurants a second chance if my experience is bad .Not gonna happen this time . This is my favorite place to get Mexican food in Goldsboro. The cheese dip is always so good! It's a family establishment that plays Christian music overhead and does not serve alcohol. So, if you're looking for margaritas this is not your place. Our "go-to" entree is the Nachos Fajitas, which is large enough to share. The waitstaff have been very nice at every visit thus far. We have celebrated birthdays here several times. They bring out a big sombrero, sing "Happy Birthday," and give you a whipped cream-covered ice cream scoop inside of a sweet taco bowl. Came here to try out their Taco Tuesday while I was in the Goldsboro. Now to be honest, their iced tea wasn't what I was hoping for compared to their competition, but their prices were fair and the food was hot. Staff were a little taxes due to the occasion so service was also a tad on the slow side, but it's expected. Overall a great experience. read more

La Paz is a clean, more modern looking mexican restaurant that the other most popular place (Toreros). Your clothes don't smell like mexican food like they do after leaving Toreros. Service is excellent, as waiters are very energetic. Food is good, not great. Prices are a little high, in my opinion. Overall a very decent, place to take the family for mexican. This is one of the best Mexican places I've found in nc. The main thing that sticks out to me is that the service is good. For some strange reason the service in most nc places sucks the big one. The foods good. Salsa is good. My only complaint is that they make the burritos a bit too small for me liking and are a bit stingy with the queso they put on top even when you want extra. To start with get the hot salsa verde for the chips that they bring to the table. (They gave me more to take home. Then try a tamale. This rivals the best that I have ever had. Ate here tonight (06/16/17) with a crowd of ten. We were seated right away and they took our drink order as soon as we where seated. Drinks arrived quickly and they took our food order. I was amazed at how fast we got our food. I really thought it was for another table, but it was ours, and it was hot and fresh. I had the Beef Chimichanga. It was great. This is not even a one star place to eat, it's a zero star. My husband and I ate there today(10-05-19) for the first time and had their buffett. Never before have we had such disgusting mexican food. Everything was cold and tasteless. There was no steam coming off the food in the buffet and the service was bad. The hostess put our silverware on the table and left. I was really excited when I saw all the good reviews but I gotta say this is some of the worst mexican food I've ever had. There is absolutely zero taste to any of the food. I should have known considering as soon as I sat down I saw one of the workers well by me literally a cart full of Sysco canned beans and cheese dip (that's always the sign of an "authentic" Mexican restaurant). This was the nastiest mexican food I have ever eaten. I got the combo plate with an enchilada, taco, and chili relleno, with refried beans. I tried a bite of each- it had NO FLAVOR at all...NONE. Tried adding salt and nothing... what little taste it did have was BAD... I actually sent my plate back and didn't order anything else- then went outside and threw up in a trash can.
