Clean, welcoming, and right off the highway. The buffet had so many yummy options, but the menu chicken was incredibly juicy and full of flavor,couldn't stop eating! My husband's steak came out a bit overcooked from his med-rare , but he said it was still delicious. the server and manager went above and beyond by sending us home with a perfectly cooked replacement to-go. This place!! What to say... I've been driving by it for years. So, we had to stop today. We were just out for a fun drive to see fall leaves, but I can't lie, my pet name for wifey is Bonny and we just had to make a day date with this place being the center of it. When we first drove up, it was almost shocking, in the best way! It was incredibly crowded! It was a Saturday, early in the day, but it was still, for such a small building, bustling with peeps! Also, it was in the middle of a construction zone, but was still crowded. This gave us high hopes. We also discovered it was one of five, so, they have expanded into a small chain. Things were looking promising. Cute little establishment. Much bigger inside than it looked. It wasn't overly crowded inside, though, even with all the cars parked outside. The Bonnie Cafe is famous (locally, anyway) for their buffets. We were pleased to go, BUT, the breakfast buffet ended at 10:30! That's a warning, if you want breakfast, be early. We were not. So, we did the lunch buffet. The salad part of the buffet was standard. It was good. Nothing unexpected, so that's what you want in a buffet. *Wifey here - actually my salad was quite delicious. And everything was very fresh and it had some extras like pickled onions and peppers and shredded, roasted chicken that you do not usually see on a standard salad bar. The meal part of the buffet was really tasty. There were bbq ribs! On a buffet!!! As well as fried shrimp! Not jumbo, but not the small ones. The corn COULD HAVE used a bit more pepper, but it was good, nonetheless. The green beans were just ok, as they were a bit over cooked for me (not uncommon for a buffet). The beans had diced ham, and they were very good, also. The meatloaf was very nice (even though I thought there was a bit too much ketchup) but I definitely do not fancy ketchup! *Wifey here - I do not usually eat meat loaf but I tried a piece and it was quite good. Don't let Mr. Ketchup Hater Pants scare you off! The corn was also good and pepper could be added at the table - which I did aplenty because I have an unhealthy love of pepper people just don't understand. Aaahemmm, back to the regularly scheduled review: Dessert was (for me) chocolate cake with a coconut crème icing. It was good. They had an ice cream machine with chocolate, vanilla AND twist, so that's a big winner! *Wifey again - dessert was part of the buffet and the cake slices all looked great! I had banana - yum! Honey loves ice cream so he was like a kid in a candy store (or ice cream store, I guess) ice cream always makes him happy. I was way too full for that. *Wifey's overall review - great little place. Above average buffet foods. All of their foods really seem to be lovingly prepared by a cute little grandma. It definitely draws a crowd and was well worth the drive! We will have to hit the breakfast buffet next time. Who knows, maybe tomorrow. It's only two hours away. Grumpy Old Guy's final verdict: It was a long time getting here, but it was well worth it. I usually don't complain about my visits to a restaurant. But tonight was pathetic! My wife and I went to eat at West frankfort Bonnie Cafe, and we got the buffet. As I was scooping some green beans on my plate, I noticed something, thinking it was an onion. Nope it was not an onion! It was a thick piece of plastic in my green beans! I addressed the issue with our waitress. We got I am sorry. Thats it Im sorry! We still had to pay full price for our meal, no discount nothing. We stopped in on a road trip. It's the best sweet tea I've had since moving to Illinois (from Alabama for reference). The buffet was constantly tended to, everything was fresh, and almost everything I tried was delicious. The white beans could use a little more seasoning but over all it was great. We didn't order breakfast but a lot of people did so when we find ourselves here again, I will probably try breakfast. Bathrooms were clean. Staff was attentive and friendly. Stopped here for breakfast in Sunday while going north on I57. Wasn't expecting a full breakfast buffet (maybe only on weekends?) so we went with that. It had loads of choices on the hot tables (2of them): grits, oatmeal, bacon, sausage, pancakes, French toast, scrambled eggs (with add in available to make it like an omelet), biscuits and gravy, tater tots, chicken nuggets, and fried potatoes with sausage (polish?). I'm probably leaving out something, it was extensive. The fried potatoes and sausage were my favorite, it's not something I see very often. Biscuits and gravy were also good with fresh biscuits and creamy gravy (not enough sausage in the gravy for my taste though). The biscuit and gravy was enough to fill me up on its own. I noticed that the woman tending the buffet was really keeping things stocked, I'd say almost everything turned over just in the short time we were there. She was doing the best job tending a buffet that I've seen. The were some cold items, like fruit. I didn't notice if there were rolls and pastries, I wasn't interested so didn't look for them. We had a waitress that checked on us often. I think some if her customers were ordering off the menu so she was very attentive. My only negative was that the place did seem a little run down. I absolutely loved this place! I was on a road trip from Indiana to Texas, and I decided to stop here. They have a buffet, all you can eat breakfast, as well as a regular menu. I opted for the all you can eat breakfast, which was a few dollars cheaper than the buffet but seemed just as good. I had a chocolate chip pancake, two eggs, French toast, biscuits and gravy, and bacon. For the all you can eat, you order 4 items, then order more once you are done with those. It all tasted perfect! I just went to this little buffet here in town for the first time. I haven't the slightest clue what being pregnant feels like but I probably look more pregnant than I usually do lmao. Home cooking at its finest. Coming from Vegas and all the Buffets they have out there, I wasn't expecting much. Well I'll be a kangaroos uncle if that wasn't some of the finest buffet food I had outside of Bacchanal Buffet in Caesars Palace. Alright, that might be laying it on a little thick, so there is probably a kangaroo out there looking for his uncle... But I can barely move at the moment cause I just destroyed 3 plates. Everything was good though, wasn't a whole lot of choices but every choice they had was pretty darn tasty. I haven't ate this much in probably around a year or so. I started off with the classic home cooked meal, mashed potatoes with brown gravy and fried chicken. I'm somewhat of a self proclaimed fried chicken expert(see other reviews...) and this chicken hits all the marks. It's juicy, tender and crispy, can't ask for much more than that. Mashed potatoes were smashing or smashed or mashed or whatever. You get it, they were good. Second plate was tacos, Mexican rice and shredded beef quesadilla. I was pleasantly surprised at the shredded beef quesadilla, the beef was so flavorful and tender made me wonder why they don't put that meat out on the line for tacos. My 3rd plate was a pork chop, tater tots and a lil salad. Pork chop wasn't as good as the chicken but it was still a decent piece of meat. Service was impeccable, my server did it all. She sat us, got us drinks, and cashed us out as we were leaving. She did that for us as well as other tables and didn't skip a beat. My drink stayed full and she checked on us often as well as kept an upbeat attitude and smile even though she was pretty busy. As for the restaurant itself it's exactly what you would expect of a small hometown establishment. Nothing over the top but the place was clean and well maintained. I would definitely recommend this place and will be returning soon! read more

We saw a advertisement for crab legs and decided to give them a try. We were greeted immediately by a very friendly waitress. We were seated immediately and our drinks and menus came quickly. We ordered the all you can eat crab which includes the buffet..husband loved the fried chicken. I was saving room for the crab. The huge platter arrived with ample bowls of butter. They don't cut corners with spices etc. Fried Chicken fresh every day..Best Green beans 'with bacon grease!' And Best mashed potatoes with 2 types of gravy.
