Last weekend's seafood special - opakipaki with ube mash and pineapple salad
    Andrew S.

Another banging seafood special as always. This time it was wild Alaskan halibut crispy pan roasted in brown butter, sweet pea & tarragon risotto W/ Gruyère & parmigiana reggiano, blistered Gailan, Meyer lemon sauce suprême foam, local micro leeks from Autumn Ridge Farms! It was fantastic. Service was delightful as always. Peytie is such a joy as well as Ariel. Ariel even brought our daughter some snacks from the bar station. She loved the blood oranges, limes, and olives. They no longer have the fall gourds as decoration as i think they are getting ready to decorate for the holidays, but it was super cozy in there on a uncharacteristically cold mid-November day in So IL.

What a unique and amazing experience. Loved the atmosphere and the service was exceptional. The food was unique but so delicious. Everything was well cooked and well prepared. We started the meal with the kalbi bossam and chicarrones. I highly recommend both dishes. Of note - the kalbi bossam couldve been an entree versus an appetizer. It was super filling! but a great dish to be shared. We had the Ban Bo hue, Thee PBR pork belly rueben and the pork chops. Our favorite was the pork chops - so tender and well cooked. The veggies that were served with the dish were also delicious. Next Id recommend the Ban Bo Hue served with consomme - what a unique but delicious sandwich! Make sure to dip your sandwich into the sauce. We even ate left overs the next day and it was just as good. By the end of our meal we had no room left for dessert. All the dishes were huge portions and very filling. For Cocktails - you really cant go wrong. We tried the Old fashioned, insomniac, cucumber martini and dani and the giant peach. All of them were fantastic. This is definitely a restaurant I'd return to for drinks and for the food.

You need reservations, unless you sit at the bar (if there's space). We were recommended this place by a young gentleman we met at Bald Knob across. He wasn't wrong when he said it was upscale bar food. Most of it is in house made, and you can taste the love of the chefs! Phenomenal! I had the Cobb salad, and it was far superior than just a salad. My boyfriends Ruben was next level!!! We shared the fries as an appetizer. Hand cut super crunchy, perfectly seasoned. Get them, or the scotch eggs. You won't be disappointed. The restaurant really is underground, in the basement. Wonderful feel with the cozy ambiance I will definitely choose this place again when in the area.

Great food and service. During a time of covid, we decided to grab dinner. I liked how tent was socially distanced. It was a comfortable setting. However, be mindful of the rocky pavement when electing to be seated outdoors. The service was swift. We made same day reservations and waited no more than 10 minutes. Underground Burger: I ordered a medium well burger and it was extremely juicy and enjoyable. It was full of flavor. I have no complaints. The fries were good. I did upgrade them though. They had drink specials. I enjoyed the Moscow mule. It was refreshing and made well. I would recommend this establishment. Parking is a bit of a hassle but overall a solid place for food.

Went for brunch today and everything was fantastic from the service to the price and of course the food. Excellent. Wish we lived closer. Id definitely be a regular.

Made it back this week, and it was just as good as the first time. Incredible flavor on the Nashville Hot Chicken. Between the food, drinks, and ambiance, this is my favorite restaurant in southern Illinois.

The smash burgers were good. About half of the fries were good and the rest were overcooked. The cocktails were good! Our service could have been a little better. Our server was somewhat efficient. She wasn't overly friendly or attentive. Maybe they were short staffed but I don't know. I just know that service was lacking. There are many things to look at on the walls! We stopped by on Friday night for dinner, the plaza it's located in was pretty quiet, the only cars seemed to be for this restaurant. I think it might be hard to find if you're not specifically looking for it. Once inside the decor is so cute though. It's fun and clean but also a little quirky. They have a TV showing animal videos in the main seating area. They have several appetizers to choose from, we opted to go with mozzarella sticks and the burnt ends. The Mozzarella sticks were gooey and a little stringy. They taste slightly more rich than a traditional dairy mozzarella sticks, but I doubt you'll find something that tastes as close to the real thing as here! The burnt ends were made of seitan and they were so delicious. The bbq sauce was very tasty and the seitan was a little charred in places. A decent portion size as well. For our mains my husband tried the tacos which he really liked, and I got the "shrimp" po boy. I think the "shrimp" was made from a mushroom protein of some sort but it looked and tasted eerily similar. I definitely never thought I'd be eating a vegan version of a po boy again and I was thrilled to see it on the menu. To top it off I got the cookies and cream vegan milkshake. Very tasty! I believe it's an oat milk base. I also liked they had some food retail items such as Rebel Cheese Brie. I've been wanting to try that brand for a long time and was excited to be able to order some to go! They also offer some non-vegan items for the meat eaters if you bring any along. I'd probably prefer to see a full vegan menu, but I understand making it easier for others to eat there as well. The staff was very friendly and smiling the whole time. I would happily go back here many days in a row to be able to try all the other items on the menu.

The restaurant is a cute and modern. The lighting and outside fire pits was a whole vibe! Parking is plentiful with street parking as well as a small parking lot! I will definitely be back and I suggest everyone to try out this spot while living and visiting the STL!

We hadn't been to The Royale in a while so we headed on over. We took seats at the bar and were quickly greeted by the bartender. He immediately had small refreshing glasses of water. After glancing over the Special Drink Menu, we both chose the Cold Brew Martini. It was made with 1220 Encrypted Vodka, Kaldi's Coffee Cold Brew, Giffard's Cafe Du Honduras, Giffard's Madagascar Vanilla and served up in a vintage glass. I love the glassware that The Royale uses. I hadn't eaten breakfast, so I looked at the food menu and ordered their Chips and Salsa. I had them add a side of guacamole for minimal fee.
