It's not that I'm hard to shop for... I just don't know what I like, what fits well, and what goes together. Thanks to Bonobos, I don't have to worry about any of that. A quick stop at their website for a reservation and away I go to Bonobos when I'm in Chicago (or New York) for an afternoon of shopping. Trust me, this is a tiny store and you'll want to make a reservation. Also, if you aren't familiar with Bonobos, you try on and find the right fit and order while you're in the store. Clothes ship with a day or so out of the NE, and arrives at my doorstep usually two or three business days later. A great concept if you're dealing with airlines and luggage, not so much if you spilled red wine all over your clothes and need a quick outfit change. The BF wanted to stop here while we were visiting Chicago. He had tried on this brand at Nordstrom and they fit extremely well. The day we went, it was about 80 degrees outside and about 100 in the store. It was truly miserable. I asked one of the sales staff about the air conditioning and he said it was on, just not working very well. I tell you, there was no way that air was on. I found a folding board and tried to fan myself to get some relief while the BF tried on pants. I found a stool around this island and sat down to cool off. There was no other seating. As soon as I got up to take a look at my BF pants, one of the male sales clerks sat down on the stool. Apparently I was sitting on his stool and I was sitting at the island where all the sales clerks order pants on laptops. You cannot buy merchandise in store. Everything must be ordered online. That's ok, but does every member of the sales staff need to be sitting down at a laptop ? He wasn't even helping a customer. Most of the customers were not greeted, due to this arrangement. There was a guy walking the floor, but every 5 minutes he went in back to stuff chips in his mouth and then greeted people with food in his mouth. This store needs a leader. Someone should have stepped up and been at the front of the store to greet customers and explain the system. Someone should have sent a member of their sales staff to buy a fan and someone should have pointed out that all eating takes place in the back room only. We left the store without making a purchase. It was easier to go back home and order what we needed online....in the cool air conditioned comfort of our home. The merchandise is great. Beautiful colors and fit. Pants, shirts, jackets and coats. Unfortunately, they are not showcased to their full potential due to management. read more

At the time of our visit, we were living in Pittsburgh, a city that hasn't yet been blessed with a Bonobos guide shop. As someone who has to dress business casual every day, and typically goes out in similar wear, Bonobos seemed like a perfect place to explore. After one visit to the guide shop, I'm now a huge Bonobos fan! The staff was approachable and very knowledgeable about the brand, menswear fashion, and with one look could estimate my correct fit/sizing. The staff approached selling me on their clothing by letting me guide them and not forcing anything on me. It was such a passive, personalized approach that left me so impressed that we left to go grab lunch and came right back to buy stuff when we hadn't walked in with the intention of getting anything. I love how their fits are consistent, the quality is excellent, and the brand has fits that are perfect for athletic builds. The guide shop is a great concept, and the overall experience was so good that I had no issue with the idea of ordering there and having to wait for my clothes to arrive at home from the "ninjas." Also, buying from the shop was 20% cheaper than ordering on my own online. Needless to say, I'm excited that we've now moved to a city that has a guide shop! read more

I was just going to order from Bonobos online when I discovered there was a Bonobos Guideshop in Chicago. First you need to understand that the purpose of this store is not to walk out with your purchase. Instead it is try on each line they have so you know exactly what size / style works best for you. You can then order directly at the store or online when you get home. I walked into the store on Wednesday at 1pm. I was originally just looking for pants (summer khakis) but decided to try on everything so I would know what works for future reference. Joanne helped me through the entire process, was very friendly and informative regarding all their different lines of clothing. I must start by saying the fit on all their items is incredible. I'm a very slender build and have long legs and routinely have problems finding pants that fit well. The Bonobos Slim fits PERFECT. The same goes for their slim casual shirts, slim jeans, and their XS polos. I ended up ordering 4 pairs of pants, 1 pair jeans, 1 casual shirt and 1 polo. Total for the order was under $600 before tax and the items arrived today, Friday, only two days later. The fitting and purchasing process was relaxing and well worth it. The service and responsiveness of Joanne after the order was placed was definitely 5 Stars. For the price you really cannot beat the service and the quality. Joanne even e-mailed me to follow up to make sure there were no problems with the order when it arrived. This will be my new "go to" clothing store! read more

It will soon be summer in Chicago - 90 degrees and humid - but this spring still feels like winter. The perfect time to purchase an inexpensive, fashion forward, navy blue, unlined, cotton poplin summer suit. On the advice of my cousin, a clothing buyer for a national chain, I tried on suits at eight stores. I'm very fit, a 42R with a broad chest and narrow waist. So, here's what I found. H&M: cotton and cardboard fabric, fully lined; Zara: glaringly garish; Express: way too tight and also lined; Brooks Bros.: way too expensive; J. Crew: too conservative (jackets are too long); Club Monaco: for stick figures; Macy's: lowest common denominator styles in shiny fabrics. I don't know why Bonobos Guideshop was the last stop on my week-long hunt - I wish it had been first. As soon as I walked in, I spotted my suit - it filled every one of my criteria. The jacket needed no alteration - first time I've ever worn off-the-rack that fit so perfectly. The pants are just skinny enough and only need hemming. I ordered the suit within 10 minutes and it arrived at my home in 2 days. The sales staff was delightfully helpful in all regards and Bonobos is now on my go-to store list. read more

What a great idea for an online merchant to have a shop where I can see the merchandise and try things on! For me, that's the big drawback of shopping for clothing online -the question of "will it fit." I worked with Zack at the shop and he was really easy to work with and really cared that I find things that look good on me. I'm a little hard to fit, but he was very patient and put me at ease finding the right items and sizes. The quality of the merchandise is very good and the best thing is the consistency of sizing, which Zack explained is due to having items made in a consistent way. This is a big advantage over other online merchants who carry different brands and you never can tell if it's going to fit. Now I can confidently re-order knowing how things will fit. Price wise, it's not cheap but more middle of the road, but the price is reflected in the quality. Between the high level of service that Zack provided and the quality of the merchandise, I am a much more happy and confident shopper! read more

Big fan of the quality of clothes from Bonobos. The guide shop is the perfect answer to online shopping. You can go to the guideshop and try on anything there prior to ordering online. Be warned if you go on a weekend its crazy crowded. Its a tiny little shop so it was difficult to maneuver and quite honestly it was not the most pleasant experience. The store was very easy to navigate and was focused on fit. A lot of their store was samples that you tried on to find the right size and then you can order and ship to your house for free. Friends of mine kept posting on Facebook how wonderful the products are at Bonobos. I was reluctant to order online without trying the clothing on (I'd end up forgetting to return items that don't fit correctly) and found out about the Lincoln Park store which is about a half mile from my house. At first it seems kind of odd to go to a place where you can't grab and go, but once you understand the concept, it works out perfectly. Joanne was very friendly and helpful and made our experience noteworthy. Since I have a dozen khaki pants by other companies, my goal was really just to get the correct fit and sizes, since I wanted their colorful straight leg pants (which all ended up being on sale. I don't really see myself buying many shirts there, since I have other favorite designers, but the slacks are good quality and a decent value. I'd consider Bononos shorts, as well, down the road and would go in again to check out my size. Highly recommended. read more

I recently jumped on the Bonobos wagon, and couldn't be happier! I needed a new suit, was willing to get something that was made well, fits well and makes me feel sexy! I had heard about Bonobos, and liked that I could make a style appointment and go in and try on suits. The experience ended up being more than I could ask for. I dropped in at my appointment time, was greeted and then promptly offered a beer; which I accepted. I proceeded to try on some different suits - and ended up selecting the Foundation Suit in the navy windowpane style. It fit well - and had a great look. I ended up then trying on some other items in the store - and walked out with corduroys, dress shirt & tie, and a casual shirt. Much more than I had anticipated walking out with. The atmosphere, style and quality of the clothes and the great service make this a great option for a guy who wants to look stylish and get clothes that will last. Bravo, Bonobos - Bravo! read more

You go in, one of their people immediately will find you and take you on a tour of the tiny showroom. They will describe fits, sizing, and the like. Go in, try on a few looks, and decide what you want. They will help you build an online shopping cart and everything will be shipped to your home quickly. I have gone more times than I care to share, but I keep going back. If you want to have clothes ranging from casual to working professional... this is a great place to stop. I haven't been called "buddy" this many times since I walked into a frat first year of Freshman year 15 years ago. My name is literally on the order slip I gave you! Or you can ask. Anyway, after being ignored, my exchanges and returns were being slowly worked upon. Then, the dude messed up the return by inputting a cheaper pant I was keeping as a return without checking with me. I get the email while still in the store and the improper refund is there. Doesn't know how to fix it and tells me another associate will take care of it. Still no email reflecting change or explanation. I have to walk back into the store wait even longer. Get an iffy explanation and we'll see what happens. Considering that Bonobos is an Internet company with few storefronts, you'd think they do all they can to make the experience pleasant. This place is more than just a clothing shop. And also less, seeing as how you can't run in for a shirt because you spilled cranberry juice on your last clean one. What? Think Queer Eye for the Straight Guy but in Chicago, and with some straight women there too. I worked with the manager, and he had some really good pointers about how to "build my wardrobe" with things that can be combined into outfits versus just buying clothes willy-nilly when I need them. For a guy like me who is (clearly) entirely clueless, the place is perfect. Bonobos's clothes aren't all for people trying to make fashion statements, so I don't feel like I'm wearing someone else's skin. Instead, they're just a lot of tasteful clothes similar to the ones I already wear, but apparently more "in." I don't care, they told me what they thought I should try on, it was comfortable and seemed well made, boom. The thing to remember, which you can find our from other reviews is, again, you do not go in there to buy a shirt on a whim. You go in there to plan for future clothing options. read more

I bought a couple of pairs of pants a couple of shirts online. The pants didn't fit so I brought them in to return them. Joel helped me with the return. He noticed that on my online purchase that I had bought shirts and the size didn't look quite right based on my appearance, so he had me try on sizes that he thought would work better for me and ordered them for me. In passing during our conversation I mentioned that I was going to New York. I received my shirt with the correct size today along with a package including a Yankee hat, an I love New York t shirt, an MTA subway card, and a map with hot spots to check out while i am on my trip. Stopped by here last week while in the neighborhood. I had heard about the brand and wanted to check it out. I can't believe how crappy the service is here. It's the worst customer service experience I've ever had. Upon walking in the three "sales associates" were sitting at an island playing games and surfing the internet on their laptops. They acted like I was bothering them just by walking into their store. My bad I guess!? One of the employees took about 20 seconds of his time to tell me "you can't buy stuff here, you just try them on then order online." A cool concept but some basic guidance of the store would have been nice. Try asking any questions about the merchandise and you are greeted with an exasperated look, bitchy attitude and a lazy wave toward the back accompanied with "there's some more stuff back there." I was prepared to spend a couple hundred to restock my summer shorts and pants but left empty handed. Congrats on losing what could have been a loyal customer. The three stars is because the stuff there actually isn't bad. Not great and nothing you can't easily get elsewhere, but decent quality and nice style. read more

I was totally new to Bonobos before walking into the Guideshop. Thinking I was entering a typical clothing store, I could not have been any more surprised and pleased! They offer amazing customer service, have beautiful clothing, and even offered me coffee on a very cold morning. Dana, one of the Guides, helped me and was both knowledgeable on the product and quite pleasant to work with. You could tell she genuinely enjoyed working for the company and has faith in the clothing. She helped me pick out a few outfits for my boys, gave me ideas for mixing and matching, and sent a timely follow-up email outlining everything and thanking me.
