Our theme was a dusty rose pink, and they had a million and two ties- textured, patterned, every hue from light to dark, and socks to match! The first time we came, my husband and I confidently guessed the matching pink shade without a swatch, and (obviously!) were no where close, but exchanging was easy! My husband uses these regularly at work. I'm not sure why I expected more from a $15 tie. Maybe I'm the one in the wrong here for thinking these ties would be of better quality than they are, and I apologize if my expectations were too high. I purchased three ties and a couple of pocket squares a few months back. I'm content with the pocket squares. So yay on that end. On the tie front though; I'm not sure if it's an issue with the tie pattern (houndstooth) or if this is just what one can expect from The Tie Bar, but one of my new ties already has a number of snags/loose threads accumulating, which results in it looking older than it actually is. The other two ties are still covered in the plastic wrap that it came in so we'll see how they turn out after a couple of wears. And I'm careful with my ties so it's not the result of "customer misuse" as another Yelper was accused of on this business page (I believe that's the last item on "10 Surefire Ways To Annoy Your Customers"). I've worn the tie on two separate occasions to the office (maybe three times) and it's already starting to appear a little raggedy. That leaves me a little womp-womp because I really like the way it looks (err... looked). But then I'm reminded that I didn't spend too much on these ties so I guess I'm not terribly upset. I could justify buying these ties if there wasn't a rather high (imho) s + h cost attached to each purchase. I can imagine how exhausting it must be lifting ties and putting them in boxes... I doubt I'll be buying from the Tie Bar (online) again although I would definitely stock up on a few ties the next time I'm in town (at least then I can preview the quality of the ties before purchase). The store is easy to navigate as it's mainly just the front room. The ties are organized by colors, then by designs. They also have a smaller drawer of socks, also organized by colors. I stopped in to buy my boyfriend a couple ties for Christmas and was helped by Tristian. He asked me about my boyfriend's personality and showed me a couple that he thought would fit well. He gave me time and space to browse through the drawers and even helped me narrow down to three ties that I ended up purchasing! Ties and tie bars and pocket squares, oh my! While I tend to prefer the casual, athleisure, I-woke-up-like-this look, there are times in my life where I DO need to look presentable to the public. And there is no better place to get accessories than The Tie Bar. I pop in a few times a year to get refresh my tie collection and other items to add to my wardrobe. I appreciate the variety in their ties and their pocket squares - every color of the rainbow (and even colors not on the rainbow, for your technical people), and a great selection of patterns to keep you looking dapper, not gaudy. Tie Bar came to the rescue when I needed some bowties (the ones you actually tie yourself!) for a gala I was attending. Side note: have you ever tried tying a bowtie on your own? OH MY GOD, it's one of the most ridiculous things ever... I spent about 45 minutes learning by watching Youtube videos and trying to make it work before this gala I had to go to back in October. I was going crazy, sweating, all stressed out... a true nightmare. Single-handedly one of the hardest things I have ever had to do in my life. Thankfully it turned out OK and I was able to tie a decent bow. Now if they offered a bowtie-tying class, it would be amazing! What I really appreciate is their pricing. Very disappointed in this company.They cannot seem to communicate with their online customers.I ordered two ties several weeks ago and as of this post the ties have not arrived.They were supposed to be delivered within 7 days.My original concern, by following the tracking number produced no results. I e mailed the company and a rep told me they would adjust off the shipping charges,which they did.They assured me the order would arrive "early in the week". Extremely impressed with the quality of these ties. I bought two for my wedding, one for the best man and one for my husband. They had a great selection on line, and I had trouble narrowing it down, but when I finally decided, I couldnt have been more pleased. We ordered twelve ties from this company for our groomsmen and ushers. Each of the 3 kinds of tie were described as "tangerine" and "skinny" but the oranges didn't match nor were the widths the same. They don't have any stores outside of Naperville, so we weren't able to go in and see them in person. We had assumed since they were all named the same that they would match. They enthusiastically claim that they ship exchanges for free! but in actuality, they don't pay for return shipping which can add up if what you order doesn't look the same as described online. When I requested a return shipping label, they told me "it's against company policy" to give out return labels. Then I requested they cover the cost of one of the dozen ties I was buying since it's about equivalent to the cost of shipping (and also it should be a courtesy to keep me as a customer. I guess I've been spoiled by Zappos.) They said that's also "against company policy." Guess where I won't be shopping again! Guess where I'll be telling all of my male friends where not to shop! read more

Ordered two ties on a Thursday, and they were delivered to my Chicagoland address on Saturday. Ties were neatly packaged in a perfectly sized box and wrapped in tissue paper. Ordering on-line was simple, and you can narrow searches by color, style (skinny vs traditional, neck vs bow), length, etc. Tie bars, pocket squares, socks, and other accessories also available. I'm generally satisfied with the more than a dozen ties and pocket squares I've purchased in the past year. Most of the ties look like the photos on the website, but at $15.00 each, it's a small investment to have some that missed the mark. The tie bars are another story. They are regularly featured in GQ and come in wide range of beautiful colors. The problem is they don't work. I bought three and love the way they look - in the box. However, because they don't have teeth like other tie bars, they quickly slip down the tie and separate from the shirt. Most photos I'm in show the tie bars drooping at a 45 degree angle. I have spent hundreds of dollars at The Tie Bar, but I wasted $45 for those tie bars. And the company's response to my complaint? They didn't even bother to call me back. read more

I was just in an embarrassing bride panic as we arrived at our wedding destination and the tie I ordered for my dad to match the groomsmen ties was nowhere to be found. I searched high and low, almost cried unnecessary tears because that's my emotional state right now, and then figured I had no choice but to call and order a new one hoping it would arrive by Friday. The manager I spoke with was beyond sympathetic and accommodating. He looked up my previous order on the spot and over-nighted me the tie with no shipping charge. It's going to arrive in the next 24 hours and now I can go back to panicking about other things. After further review, it needs to be said that the Tie Bar has EXCELLENT customer service. Even though we were somehow struck by 2 bad ties, 2 years in a row for Christmas gifts, I was assured that the quality control that goes into the product and the experience we had was far from the norm in dealing with the Tie Bar. That said, we have still needed corrections to the 2 orders we've made. At the end of the day, I'm sure they get 99% of the orders correct and send out UN-snagged ties - but I can only speak to our experience. Both times so far we've been disappointed at first, but the customer service and effort on the back end made us go away feeling much better. And when the ties DO come through correctly - they're great quality for a good price. read more

36 hours before we leave for our wedding, my fiance decides that actually maybe he'd like a new bow tie and a pocket square and we should go shopping. Men - nothing like the last minute! Encouraging myself to take deep breaths, I found The Tie Bar on Yelp, and invoked the favor of every deity to have the right items in stock as we pushed open the shop door. "Just browsing," my fiance says to the staff, cuz you know, no big deal. "We're getting married Friday, and he wants something blue," I tell them, because ain't nobody got time for lollygagging right now. "OH MY GOD, IT'S FOR YOUR WEDDING?! THIS WEEK?!" Now this, this was the appropriate amount of shock and horror that this statement should have been received with - thank you Edward for proving that I am not insane to be less than thrilled we were doing this a day and a half before our trip. Edward immediately flew into action, pulling open several drawers and giving us a Forrest-Gump like list of blue bow ties - a paisley one, dotted one, solid one, floral one, etc. He pulled out a few pocket squares to coordinate with, and came back with an armful of dress socks to choose from as well. This experience was about 1,000x less stressful than I was expecting it to be, as Edward asked great questions to narrow down and very quickly put together some complimentary looks to choose from. We were in and out of the store within 20 minutes, and for a new bow tie, pocket square, and pair of socks, we paid $42, definitely very reasonably priced! I received a tie as a gift, which I was interested in returning. Tie looked great but I wanted a different one. The Tie Bar does no reimburse any shipping costs on exchanges, they only reimburse for returns. The tie cost 15$ + 6$ for shipping. Shipping the tie back to the company costs 8$ from Fedex. You are then charged shipping again for the new tie. Basically I lost 20$ (6+8+6) for trying to exchange a 15$ tie. Great products but poor experience on exchanges. I would not recommend the tie-bar for gifts. I would recommend the tie-bar for people that are positive about what they want. read more

Hey everyone, I came here like so many others after an article in GQ magazine. Ordered a couple of ties and they looked great but for one problem, one of them had a little snag/defect in it. Called the tie bar, they asked me to send a picture so I did. The lady on the phone said "that's not a real snag" so if I wanted to send it back, I would have to pay for the return shipping. I couldn't believe my ears so I tried to reason with the lady but she was adamant, the "defect" was just a "normal" part of the tie. Granted, I am no tie expert. But if I buy something new and there is something that doesn't look like, I feel that I'm entitled to an exchange where I am not charged shipping. Just absurd. So I told her that I would go on the internet and write about this experience and she said that I was free to do as I wished. So here I am. The lady on the phone was nice through it all but I think the situation just sucks. The other tie I got was fine. So this 1-star is for the customer service. The one tie I got that was not defective looked great and I wear it often. It is definitely cheaper feeling but can't complain for $15. It's too bad I had this one issue because I won't order from this place again. Customer service is so important that I felt the need to come here to write this longer than usual review. Gents, there is no reason to spend hundreds of dollars on designer ties, bow ties, tie bars, or any men's accessories. Period. I love the Tie Bar. I've always been meaning to order a few things from here ever since I started reading about them. I ordered a bow tie for the VA Gold Cup (similar to the Kentucky Derby) and had it delivered fairly quickly. The quality of the bow tie (silk) is just as good as my ties from Burberry, Brooks Brothers, and Hugo Boss to name a few brands. The bow tie was only $15 too, as with all their other bow ties and neck ties. Seriously, why spend so much money on designer brands when you can get ties that are just as good in quality and much cheaper in price? They have also started making money clips too! Love these guys. I wish my collection of ties wasn't so extensive right now, otherwise I would order much more. I probably will though soon. read more

$15 ties, good quality, great selection, superb customer service. Only qualm I have had so far is the clips one one of the tie clips is more like a money clip rather than a hinge that can be pressed to open up, which makes it basically impossible to get on a shirt and tie. Whats with that design? Also some of the other clips have no teeth which makes them dance all over the tie an not stay in place very well (particularly if it is a slick material tie). Ties vary greatly in feel, thickness, and weight, even if they are the same material, but so far I have been happy with all of them and I will no longer need to go to the store for new ties. read more
