A terrific Korean grocery store with **locally-grown Asian produce**. The proprietors are bringing in produce grown on their land near Tacoma. Radishes, greens, bokchoy, mushrooms, all the good stuff may be had here at reasonable prices (and some freshly picked). I like that the store isn't a massive scale chain like H Mart. Whatever you need for your Asian kitchen needs including all the varieties of soy sauces, vinegars, oils may be had here. The fish selection is impressive. A good variety of frozen dumplings. Good rice brands. Lots and lots of Korean teas (jujube/barley/ rice etc.) Fresh prepared food: a full kitchen at the rear of the store offers prepared meals and Korean catering. They offer freshly rolled kim bap (vegetarian friendly versions included). Tasty freshly rolled kim bap is a big draw! I recently picked up a tub of fermented soybean paste stew (Doenjang jiggae). I dressed it up at home with additional shrimp and sauteed peppers, seaweed, and steamed rice -- delicious! I find shopping here very pleasant and I love to patronize a smaller grocery store tucked away in one of Edmonds' Asian enclaves! read more

Interior has low lighting and an antiquated appearance. They have a large variety of products from kitchen goods to toiletries and prepared foods. Tried their young radish kimchi which had deep red gochugaru and a slight funk (which I like). Their chive kimchi was not as flavorful. read more

Great place if you're in town. A medium sized grocery store with some food options as well. I usually will go in for some kimbap.

My first choice for fresh fish. I've been buying the saba mackerels here and you know what, it never disappoints. My grandson loves this fish fried or grilled. They are nicely salted and are perfect to taste. You know when fish is not fresh - it kinda has that funky fish smell and it's not quite pleasant. But the fish here-no funky smell or anything like that. If I'm making sense, I know some of you will get me. Aside from fish, they also have octopus and live fish. You'll just have to come by one day when you are in the area. Their prices are good and very reasonable. I won't buy fish anywhere else tbh. All their seafoods are nicely packed with care. Boo Han Market is a modest-mid size Korean grocery store; I suspect it's been here long, long before the dominating HMart. Its biggest draw is KOO's Grill (separately operated, with shorter hours) located inside the store. We went for KOO's Grill. It was sadly closed, so I wandered Boo Han anyway. The place feels like a more hardcore Korean market, less "approachable" than HMart, which is actually a compliment, not a ding. I saw several things that were new-to-me, such as giant heads of Bomdong, which is a Korean spring cabbage (I looked it up). It's magnificent and resembles a supersize cabbage flower. They have these 2 to 3 feet long Belt Fish from Venezuela. They have many new-to-me tea flavors, such as Corn Silk Tea, Oriental Raisin Tea, and Cassia Tora Tea. Their layouts and displays are basic, somewhat resembles old-time giant bins of fish-out-whatever you can. Again, I don't mind at all. So, I don't go home empty-handed, I bought snacks and teas, always a win. read more

This review is for the grocery store, not the food stand: Rude customer service. Came here to get some groceries and trying to check out... then the cashier notifies me that the 9-pear box is not on sale, the 8-pearbox is and if I want to exchange it. I wasn't sure I wanted to deal with the hassle of switching out the boxes so I said the 9-pear box is fine. Then she makes a remark that the 9-pear box doesn't taste good... so I ask what is the difference. Then she says obviously the 8-pear box has one less pear (no duh. I was asking why she said it doesn't taste good). Also, why would they put the sale sign in front of the box that isn't actually on sale? They mixed the 7-pear, 8-pear, and 9-pear boxes. Anyway, all this at the checkout when I just wanted to get on with my morning errand. Then she asks where I want my groceries. They have a pile of boxes so I ask if she can pack it in there for me. Then she says, yes you can use a box and hesitates like she expects me to bag my own groceries. Do the cashiers not bag anymore? I put a box in front of her while I went to exchange the pear boxes because she was so adamant that the other ones didn't taste good. Not sure why I have to deal with this rigamarole running errands. Won't choose to come here when there are other options available. read more

The fish bread here is better then the fish bread in Korea and better then the ones from bean fish in Seattle. The bad rating for this market are price complaints on the actual market but if you come here there is a tiny food stand that makes the best Korean fish shaped bread desserts. Cash only. read more

Nov15,2022 Coldest customer service from a cashier named Anarita. Asked for manager (out), got an assistant Korean manager who pretty much gave me the cold shoulder. I took 3 wks to return without a receipt. I live in Ballard and it's not something I wanted to drive all the way to Edmonds to return a $15.99 jar of kimchee. Woori's recipe was off. Been shopping here since 2006 and once in a while they'll have a batch that's completely off. I'll gave them three tries and got fed up getting bad kimchee so I decided to return. Told them I have been shopping here for 16 yrs and I have credit card transaction but they didn't want to see any of it. I spend at least $100-$150 each visit and they had the attitude of a militant. Bottom line, your customer service is absolute shit. Felt like I was shopping in North Korea and I'm 100% Korean. Anarita fits right in with the no personality, stick up their ass customer service. read more

I have been coming here since it opened. Their prices and selection are decent, but the service is usually bad, but today's service was maddening. This review reflects my experience today 10/22/23. I bought four items and two were heavy, so I left them in the cart. The cashiers usually ring heavy items without asking you to put them on the register. The cashier today (older lady with short, faded blond hair) forgot to ring one heavy item in the cart and asked me if I had 3 items. I just said yes without really thinking. As I was leaving, she yelled at me loudly and accused me of stealing. Then I noticed I had one heavy item in the cart that she did not ring. I apologized, she did not respond. I then paid and thanked her, and again she did not respond. I later called the manager later. He listened but got defensive and said what happened did not warrant an apology from them. He said I was also at fault (but I did apologize to the cashier and got ignored). I understand the cashier has a hard job, but it was inappropriate for her to falsely accuse me loudly in front of other customers for a mistake, which was also on her part, and then ignore me when I apologized and thanked her. And it was more inappropriate for the manager to just side with her. FYI - If you decide to shop here, make sure to check for expiration dates. They often sell imminently expiring or expired items. read more

I could be wrong but I'm sure false advertisement is illegal. Came here to go grocery shopping and saw a price on an item. I grabbed several of them and took to the register. Noticed that the price was not the same as I saw on a sign. So I talk to the gentleman who is the manager there and he told me that they forgot to take the sign down and that the sale is over. I didn't ask him well you still have to honor the price since there is no expiration date on the sign. He said that it doesn't matter to them about what the sign says. Best kimbap in town. Way better than kimbap from HMart in Lynnwood. Look at how big this roll is! And there's not too much rice. Perfect ratio in my opinion. Also it comes in a cute little bento box you can reuse! Highly recommend. Kyung is so nice and such a great cook. Those sweet red bean filled fish pancake (pancake?) desserts at the food stand right inside the entrance - Produce looks pretty good Cons: - Narrow aisles, you can't turn around within them and have to back out or go forward - It gets awkward when people want to go past you and have no patience to deal with the narrow space (gl to them) - It's dingy. I guess it's an older grocery but the floor and walls don't look as clean as I'm used to in a Korean market. Purchased potatoes and Drove 30 minutes back home. They charged me for Hawaiian sweet potato which was $1.50/lb more. So I called and asked the korean cashier whether she could give me credit since I can't drive 1 more hour because of her fault. She said I need to bring them back tmrw. I was held hostage by them for 45 mins after paying for my groceries. They said my payment did not go thru. I showed them in my bank account app that it did. They made me call my bank twice to confirm. Both times the bank confirmed. I understand having tech issues. Asking a customer to wait more than 5-10 mins even after they show proof of payment tho is terrible customer service. They don't treat their customers right at all. They should have just taken my info and followed up with me later instead of holding me hostage. Avoid Boo Han at all costs. read more

This place always has a good stock of prepared food to go, they are very consistent with what they offer, fast and friendly service. Parking is easy and the store is fairly easy to navigate even if you only speak English. They have a great little restaurant inside too. read more

A Korean grocery store that actually employs nice people. Weird, but true. There is this one cashier lady in her mid-40's with a perm who always smiles and says hello. She is polite and pleasant. I think she remembers me, now that I've been in quite a few times. Anyway, they have a more thanadequate setlection of Korean food. The produce is perfect and cheap for making any Korean dish! They also have a huge ramen section, which you must check out if you, like me, consider it one of the four basic food groups. They also make their own banchan, as well as various soups and stews. Their kimchi is good too, but I try to make my own as much as possible because it's so much cheaper. The butcher counter offers well-trimmed meat. While it may be more expensive than, say, Hau Hau in the ID, it is worth it because there's almost no additional trimming you have to do at home. Free calendars every January. (Koreans are weirdly obsessed with calendars and seem to have one in every room in the house.) read more

Review isn't actually for the grocery store, since it looks pretty average (3*s). But this place is worth a detour for the sweet korean pancakes! (Hotteok) I had never had one before but wandered in during the snow storm and was delighted to find that they sell taiyaki (fish shaped red bean cakes) and rice balls. Curiosity got the best of me and I bought a pancake ($1!) and have never looked back. Hotteok is like a scrumptious cinnamon bun studded with nuts, without the hassle of all that bready roll. Just gooey filling inside a fried pancake. (I still make 5+ mile detours to come here) Try it! read more

I have to make multiple trips here on different days of the week to get everything I want. One time they were sold out of Sundae (Korean blood sausages) and the other time .. The dough wasn't ready to make the hotteok (sweet pancake). But food here is so good. The blood sausages are sooo good and made fresh. They never updated their weekly sales on their website. When buy the sushi from the deli, I can't pick the pack I want. Those mean Korean ladies gossips in front of me when I am choosing my sushi?! Literally, I am expected to accept any sushi she gives, pay and thank them profusely. There is no customer service here, if that's what you are looking for. They carry some items I use for cooking, that's why I go there once in a while. I just limit my shopping to those are items so I can leave ASAP. read more

Inside Boo Han is this small food stand on the left side of the store once you enter that makes my favorite snack "bean fish." I don't know what the actual name of the snack is, but essentially it's a fish-shaped pancake/waffle with sweet bean on the inside. When I visited Korea, I could get 3-4 for $1! Here, I can get 6 for $5 which I would still consider a good deal, considering I've seen food trucks in Seattle sell 1 bean fish for $4. This past time we went the lady was kind enough to make us some fresh bean fish, even though there were enough pre-made ones to give us. Having the bean fish hot makes the biggest difference--so delicious! read more

I dont know why ive waited so long to do a review about the boo-han market. I used to come here quite a bit, now that im up north, not so much. Let me tell you, the prices here are a little cheaper than Ranch 99 across the street for items such as oil, sauces, and kitchenwares. Not that huge of a selection like the Ranch, but big enough to keep you looking around at what they have. They have a bigger sake selection than Ranch does too. A lot of the items are not clearly labeled in english so you kind of have to look at the labels really closely to see what you are getting. It is a good place to come for cheap cooking utensils and knives. Since knives are meant to wear themselves out, i buy them from here. You can get decent sharp chopper knives for under 3 bucks. Dont pass this place up just because it is small. P.S They are building a Seattle Deli right next door!! read more

I really like this market. The meat and fish selection are great and their Kimchi is extremely tasty. They also carry fresh "Geem Bop" but you may want to get there early because it sells out before the end of the day. *Update* I ate at the little restaurant inside just last night and I was very satisfied. Upon our trip to Seattle Deli, we stop here to pick up a few items. The store is pretty clean and organized. The fruit and veggie section is not the freshest, but I have not needed to get any here. They carry a lot of Korean items, which is good thing, because I have been to a lot of Korean markets that carry more Japanese items than Korean, hence why I mentioned that fact. We bought their deli items like Jap Chae (glass noodles), which was pretty good, along with Pajeon (seafood pancake). Of course nothing beats fresh pancakes, but we were in the mood for something quick. It was filled with lots of seafood. Was going to pick up some Soju, but ended up picking some Citron tea, I know mad hard partyers to the max here. ;-D The staff are all friendly and nice. Would have thought I'd have written this before, but Boo Han's cool. I'm not here nearly as much as 99 Ranch, but I do stop here practically every time I hit up Pho Than Brothers (located in the same strip mall), Seattle Deli, or Country Farms. This is much smaller than 99 Ranch, across the street, but some prices are def cheaper over here. Meats are nice here and I always find cheap oyster and hoisin sauces, too! Less selection but some great deals keep this place fantastic! I def enjoy browsing here more, as it just feels more "relaxed" than 99 Ranch or H Mart. I do wish they had the cheap kim chi that H Mart has. Even if you just happen to be hitting up a spot next door for sushi, pho, or the bakery, swing in here and peruse the selection! If you need something quick and don't have time to goto Ranch 99 or H Mart, Boo Han works. It's clean and organized enough, but as other reviewers have said - there are better options. Their veggies don't look the freshest (all though I have never purchased any there). I mainly go for their selection of snacks, candy and beverages. For awhile it was the closest place for me to get those delicious Hawaiian canned drinks. They always have a fun selection of snacks to choose from, and since I understand nothing on the packaging - always quite an adventure. They are cheap enough to where it doesn't matter if I get a bad one once in awhile. They have a cheap selection of kitchen/dining items as well. Things to note: 1. They only do cash back on purchases above $10.00 which is reasonable 2. They have an ATM inside 3. The korean food I had in this grocery store was the worst i've ever had. I don't complain about my food, but I should have during my visit and demanded a refund. I ordered kalbi tang, which came out as dumpling soup broth with pieces of ribs and eggs in the soup. Stunned that they tried to pass this off as kalbitang. read more

One of the Korean male cashier, about 40-50 years old, is very rude. All the customers must be in line and wait for the check-out. But he let the customer behind me jump in line and served them first. When I complained it, he said that he didn't know it without apology. What an ignorant person he is! He eventually said sorry reluctantly in an impolite manner. I think that Boo Han Market should train the employees professionally and put the name tag for each employees. This cashier should be educated more strictly for the better customer services, or Boo Han Market should fire him. read more

A Review for the Small Korean/American Sushi Stand inside Boo Han. They make Fresh Kim Bap either in Vegetables only, ham, beef, or tuna. Two long handrolled kim bap for $3 - $5. Very Fresh since they sell them quickly and make them infront of you. I also enjoy their hot fried red bean bun shape like fishes. I try to stop by during lunch and grab to go or on my way home from work whenever i am too lazy to cook. They are closed on Mondays. read more
