Book Go Round is one of the most affordable used bookstores in the Bay Area, and all proceeds benefit the local Saratoga library. It's a quaint little shop with a great selection of books ranging from 50 cents and up. Yes, you read that right 50 cents!They also carry CDs and DVDs. The books range from acceptable to like-new condition. My wife and I walked out with 7 books and 2 CDs for $28, which is an insane deal. Friends of the Library groups are usually at every library in the Bay Area. They're kind people who volunteer their time to help sell books and fund local libraries. The workers here are all volunteers, so they're not getting paid they're there to support their community. Big props to all of them. If you're looking for a book in the Bay Area, I'd recommend stopping here first or checking out your local Friends of the Library shop before going to a for-profit used bookstore or buying online. What a lovely little find!! This is a gem of a bookshop with many selections at great low prices. I've bought a few romance books, most at 50 cents a piece, including Nora Roberts. I was even able to find her latest book in hardback for only $4! Was also able to snag some fantasy books for 50 cents a piece from the Naomi Novik saga I've been looking for. Plus got the Bruce Springsteen autobiography I've been meaning to read for $1.50! My friend also found a bunch of piano sheet music for like $1 a piece. The condition of the books varies, but usually in pretty good condition and they're priced accordingly. Some are even pretty new! Like the Nora Roberts hardcover was pretty much like new except for you could tell someone's dog chewed off the corner lol. The volunteers that work in the bookstore are also very nice and happy to help if they can. They don't really have the books catalogued, so you can't really ask them if they have something in stock, you just have to go look for it, but it's fairly well organized and they have posters on the walls to help you locate the sections. Plus it's fun to just browse and see what's there. This is such a nice stop to browse books and get a few new ones for your reading pile at a good deal! read more

One of the best value used bookstores in town that you should definitely pay a visit too! Books are priced anywhere from $0.50-$5; have never found anywhere closeby nearly as cheap! They have a wide range of books, from fiction, psych, poetry, religion to textbooks and more. They also have a good range of collectors books! I've found a ton of my favorite authors / books there (Nelson Mandela, Barbara Kingsolver, many Pulitzer Prize winner books). I've had quite a few on my bucketlist that i was surprised to find there for such great prices, and they have baskets of "book club" recommendations in case you're feeling indecisive. Tucked in a corner off Hwy 9 in downtown Saratoga is this gem of a used bookstore! The books are sorted, but not necessarily 'fine-sorted', so it's a great browsing environment. The best book store hands down! So glad I took a chance on this gem. I've been to many many recycled bookstore and have yet to find the right one and this is it. Promise that you won't regret it! The staff is super nice. They are located in a small little corner but plenty of neighborhood side parking. I was fortunate enough to find sooo many hidden gems and financial books that I was searching for. What surprised me the most was how great the condition of these books were, literally mint condition for the price of 2-3$ max. The two ladies working here were just as avid about reading as their customers and excitedly talked about purchases and helped me find some great books. They also have AMAZING deals for whole series. I came across this book store when I was having afternoon tea with a friend. Being the bookworm that I am, stopping by was no question. I was greeted by these two nice ladies at the front who told me that this use to be location of the old library and that all the books in the store are donated. For a thrift store, there are some pretty good finds. There was quite the selection of hardcovers novels as well as paperbacks for those who like to be able to store their books in their purses instead of using them as self-protection when walking down the street. I bet you can't do that with your e-reader! (no offense to people who use e-readers. I, too, use my phone to read.) After browsing around with my friend, I came out with 4 novels for under $20. Children and adults love the Book-Go-Round, a delightful used book store in Saratoga run by the not-for-profit Friends of the Saratoga Libraries. The Spanish Revival style building is on the historic register. Unlike thrift stores that rack their books with little thought, the volunteers here are often subject matter experts and the books are thoughtfully grouped and well labeled. Besides book shelves, I like the baskets of books and rotating columns of books. The prices are awesome. Before a major sight seeing trip I visit the travel book and historical book sections. For the best selection of records, music CD s and DVD s go at the beginning of the month. But, you'll pay a premium of $5 each. Wait for a picked over selection the last three days of the month and the price drops down to 50 cents each. The audio books are not part of this sliding price scheme. Each one is clearly marked, Many were priced $5 to $12. Open every day Sunday through Friday Noon to 5 PM and Saturday 10-5 PM. On the street parking can be tricky -my least favorite part of going there. On Sunday you can use the retail cleaners parking lot across the street, but other times, not recommended. OMG--Best library bookstore on Earth! We've been to many many library bookstores over the years and Book-Go-Round is incredible. We came across this place while looking for the nearby historical home. The prices usually run from 50 cents to $5 or so. Most books are $1-$2 Great selection in many many subjects as well as CDs, DVDs, audiobooks, sheet music, Clean, neat well organized. The ambiance is comfy and perfect. Located in the former city library--lots of windows,built-in wooden shelves. We spent over an hour and could have spent more time. Cash only, checks accepted. Our "loot" included: A new copy of "Our Fault in the Stars" at $5 (our most expensive purchase) Several cookbooks A NY Times book of cartoons Several history books A DK (Dorling Kindserley) book on military history P D James book,"Children of Men" various children's books and more. It's spotty if you have a specific book in mind, but -- like most thrift stores -- if you go in with cash in hand to browse for appealing items, you'll find some great stuff 80% of the time. For the last 20+ years, I've been visiting BGR to find deals on children's books, cookbooks, music books, gardening, crafts and more. Of course, I don't find something every time I shop there, but it's sure fun to find a treasure when I do. For example, I found a Schirmer's Library of Musical Classics of Chopin Nocturnes for the Piano for $1 which was a find as I was looking for a particular Chopin piece contained in the book. Another find was a Classic Print Portfolio of Masterworks of Joseph Redouté for $3 which are meant to be framed and mounted; however, I plan to use them for a decoupage project....someday. Another oddball find was a 1920's All-in-One Chair from the National School Equipment. Initially, the volunteer clerk didn't want to sell the chair as it wasn't priced. Because I wasn't looking for a "deal" and the chair was taking up space in the aisle, the clerk reluctantly sold it to me for $25. Frankly, I thought the chair would look cute next to a bookshelf in my family room. On a recent trip, I saw a hardbound copy of Go Set a Watchman for $7 but didn't buy it as I tend to favor audiobooks. If you're a bibliophile and you happen to be in downtown Saratoga, BGR is great place to visit. read more

I haven't been to this store since 1986, if you can believe that, but I'd recently heard good things about it, so I checked it out today, and can vouch for it having an unusually good selection of books (quality classic literature, and lots of recent popular fiction), at unusually low prices. I have plenty of unread books here at home, and so was only looking for things that really jumped out at me, but I could have very easily walked out of there with a shopping bag full of stuff, for $20 or so. As it so happens, I got a very nice hard back edition of the 1996 edition of "New Masterpieces of Horror" for $2.50, a paperback copy of William Conrad's "The Secret Agent" for fifty cents, and four crime genre paperbacks for my wife, also for fifty cents apiece. Bargain spotted today: Thomas Pakenham's "The Boer War," for just five dollars. I'd have grabbed it myself, but I already bought a used copy for ten dollars almost a decade ago. read more

They've got a very good selection of hardback fiction and children's books, but what I love best is their nice selection of classics, poetry, and philosophy. Came here earlier today with a friend who recommended that I check out the place. I was kind of interested about browsing around in this place for a few weeks now. I walked in and immediately headed for the classics section to see if I could find any ones that I really liked to buy. Unfortunately most of the classics they had I had already read, and I decided not to buy any of those. Moved onto some other areas like poetry to find nothing noticeable, then just wandered around the rest of the store for a while. After some looking, I started to realize just how cheap the books are here. And most of them are in good to excellent condition, you can get a really good deal here if you find the right stuff for yourself. Anyhow, I didn't find anything that I wanted to buy. But I am also currently in the middle of a novel and probably have a couple more lined up to read. So I might have felt a little overwhelmed with reading material before stepping foot in here. read more

I have been here before but that was before yelp, so now I can write a good review. It is small and I popped in here when I was waiting for a presentation next door but they have some good stuff! It is smaller and they didn't have much in my fav genre but they have a great selection of kids books, in vintage also, and audio tapes, videos and DVDs are small. They do have more, I feel, older books like encyclopedias and vintage books you may never have heard of, but they're 50 years old! Def come try this place out and see if it meets your needs! (*cue nostalgic fade in music) When I was a kid living in the Midwest, there was a bookstore down the street called "The Book Barn". Once or twice a month, my folks and I would visit and become blissfully lost for a few hours while searching for "treasure". For a few bucks, we could get literally DOZENS of amazing books. (*sigh) Since moving back to Cali, I've had a hard time finding bookstores that match or exceed that type of experience. Most of the book retailers I've visited here seem to charge exorbitantly high prices and have a woefully slim selection of titles in the genres I'm interested in (Science Fiction and Graphic Novels). A week or two ago, I decided to search again. Yelp pointed me to Book-Go-Round in Saratoga. After reading the favorable reviews, I decided to visit them today. Boy, I'm glad I did. This place is AWESOME - friendly staff, decent sci-fi section, plenty of graphic novels, and crazy-good prices (most stuff under 1-2 bucks). I left today with a bunch of great deals (easily saving over $25 compared to other used book stores). What's more, the titles are well organized (by author) so you can quickly find what you're looking for. I will ABSOLUTELY be back in the near future. read more

I did go to their new arrivals wall and pick up "The Glass Castle" for $3 in paperback- so excited that they had it here. The Book-Go-Round is the hybrid of an ongoing library booksale and a used bookstore. Better selection than your usual sale, better prices than your usual used bookstore. I stop by maybe once a month to browse their eclectic and ever-changing selection. They have a little of everything. My favorite sections are the natural history shelf, the cookbooks, and the SF/fantasy racks. Over the years, I've probably bought hundreds of books at the Book-Go-Round, including some cool art books. Most prices are pretty low ($1-$5), though special or high demand books will be more. It's not a big store, but the atmosphere is calm and welcoming. The Book-Go-Round is entirely volunteer and donation based. The volunteers tend to be either high school kids or retirees, which makes for some mathematical peculiarities when you go to pay. Every few visits, my spouse and I end up correcting basic addition errors (the volunteers usually undercharge). And we're both English majors! The Book-Go-Round takes checks and cash, no credit cards. Parking can be limited on Oak Street. If there are no spaces (or, like me, you have an irrational terror of parallel parking), you can always park in the free public lot across the street (Saratoga Los Gatos Road) and walk over. read more

Best used bookstore in the south bay. It's non-profit and run by volunteers so everything is dirt cheap. Literally, the most "expensive" book is around 5 dollars. They do carry a limited selection, so come here if you don't have a book in mind. However, they have some collectibles, and newish books. Have been going here for such a long time, ever since i was in elementary school. i really like it here, you find some real good books, and sometimes these real authentic ones. price is cheap, most of the books are in good condition. i always come out carrying tons of books (: and grandma's are always working there, and they are really sweet. and don't worry its not like a run down place, the place is well air conditioned! sometimes it gets too cold. read more
