    Kitty cat thank you cards

I love this Japanese bookstore. They have the cutest stuff, like stationary, felt pens, plushies, stickers, bags, comics, notepads, magazines (mostly in Japanese), and much more. It's all neatly organized and displayed nicely, the perfect setup to keep you wandering the aisles. I was there today, wanting to buy myself something cute. I saw lots of stuff that appealed to me, like kitty cat thank you cards, grocery shopping bags, and cute little doodad trays, but for whatever reason didn't buy myself anything. I still had a great time checking out all of the adorable merchandise. This shop is attached to Mitsuwa Market and you enter through the food court. This is a busy shopping center with lots of stores and restaurants; parking can be problematic on weekends.

A pretty nice store that has a variety of Manga, books/magazines, stationary, and other items. It is pretty organized, however it does tend to get a bit cramped when there are a lot of people in the store since it shares the location with Mitsuwa. My daughter and I did purchase a few items here, and we were overall happy with our shopping here.

So, SO cute! I loved my visit to this store. A little on the pricey side, but offers many products that are not available elsewhere. I was really interested in Sanrio products and luckily I found a really nice tote bag for ~$17. Very nice folks working here. The bookstore is located in a grocery store, so you can even grab lunch after you shop!

Best Japanese bookstore/gift store around here, inside Mitsuwa grocery store. I never gave them a review, but they're definitely 5-stars here. You can pretty much find something you like across all aisles inside the store. I always look for cute gifts, aprons, gift bags, idol magazines, office supplies, letter sets, note cards, animation books, cookbooks, dollhouses, puzzles, and teacup sets. Whatever you're looking for, they probably have it here inside this Japanese bookstore. I didn't expect to find the cute dollhouses or store displays, but they definitely have beautiful ones here. Love the petite cafe, bookstore, and garden shop displays. Great collection and inexpensive around or under $50 each. Kids and adults love them. I would likely buy a set in the future. Good holiday gifts. It's the variety of good selections that makes the store great. Excellent customer service too as needed. Staffs are helpful. Good environment to be poking around anytime of the day. At least you won't have to drive up to Japantown in San Francisco for these items. Highly recommended. I'll come back to buy some calendars and home decor items in future too. Very tempting and attractive bookstore right outside of the food court area. Not easy to miss.

Love shopping and browsing the Kinokuniya Bookstore..usually while waiting for our Santouka Ramen orders. It's connected to the Mitsuwa Japanese Grocery store! There are so many unique stickers, stuffed animals, pens, books, etc here. The amount of books and magazines here take up almost half the store! I found a cool Sushi: Jiro Gastronomy Paperback book. I had no idea he had written one after the show a few years back. If you shop here a lot they have a pretty good loyalty program that you can purchase into but gives you a lot back. The employees are always so polite, friendly, and helpful.

First off, I love the political signs posted on the windows, like the "everyone is welcome here except ICE". When I walked in, the store looked exactly like what I've always envisioned a cozy community bookstore to be like--filled to the brim with books and with a lot of character. I came here to sell some books and it was pretty quick--I had probably 20-25 books and the employee finished in less than 10 minutes. As I was waiting for my books, I walked around exploring. I was very impressed with the selection of fiction. There were actually quite a bit of new releases, but also older books and editions that I would likely not find at a corporate bookstore. If I had the time, I'd love to spend 1-2 hours here just browsing. I didn't expect to get much money for my books; I was actually going to donate them and didn't realize that they still buy books, so their offer was ok. I was moreso pleasantly surprised that the employee was so nice lol, and also a little chatty. Honestly the last time I sold books was probably 15-20+ years ago at Half Price Books and I remember they were always pretty rude/standoffish lol. In addition to the service, the atmosphere, and the book selection, the cherry on top for me was that they have a special shelf where you can buy a book there for 50% off for them to donate to the library at Elmwood Correctional Facility at a bit of a loss for the store. I used most of my credit from the books to get a Stephen King book for the library.

The Bad: The staff can occasionally come across as a bit unwelcoming, and I personally wish the storefront atmosphere stayed more focused on books and less on outside messaging. They sometimes price popular or trending used books higher than what you'd pay for a brand-new copy elsewhere. The Good: I absolutely love the character of this bookstore. Shelves packed floor to ceiling, creaky wooden floors, stacks of books everywhere, and even a cat roaming around the store it feels like something straight out of a fantasy novel. I've visited countless bookstores, and nothing beats the old vintage feel of this place. They have a great selection of beautiful leather-bound books, plus an excellent fantasy and sci-fi section. I especially love when they put books out in under $6! The prices at this location are better, and this store feels much more like a classic old bookstore. The Campbell location feels more like a modern bookstore, and the prices there can sometimes be higher. At the end of the day, this place is a San Jose landmark and everyone should visit it at least once. Even when I disagree with certain aspects of it, I still keep coming back because it's nostalgic.

I stopped by to look for music CD and manga. The store has a dedicated section for movies, music and games in the front of the store. There is a coffee station in the center and tables where you can read and work as it's pretty quiet inside. The manga section is big and the magazines as well. Since Chinese painting and calligraphy are among my favorite hobbies, Soyodo has always been a meaningful place to find traditional Chinese painting supplies and guidebooks esp for maobi, painting flowers, landscapes, and ancient figures. I really appreciate that they also carry crafting supplies and classic Chinese literature, not just generic art books. Everything here feels rooted in tradition and care. The store also offers novels, children's books, Chinese New Year decor, vases, and small toys, which makes it feel like a cultural space rather than just a bookstore. On top of that, the pricing is very reasonable. I've even found books for as little as $2-4, which makes browsing and discovering new reads even more special. The owners are an older Chinese couple who are quiet, reserved, and genuinely kind. One of the things I cherish most about Soyodo is how peaceful and calm the store is. It's the kind of place where you can slow down, browse without pressure, and feel grounded. Stores like this are rare and I truly hope Soyodo continues to thrive.
