It has a lovely porch for reading outside in warmer weather, as well as some cozy seating inside. And the selection is excellent. They take care to stock books across a wide range of genres for all types of readers and interests. The store promotes a welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone, and the employees are always friendly and helpful. On my most recent visit I scored a bargain from the sale cart and got a hardcover on my TBR list for 20% off. They also have a nice selection of gift items and stationary. A great place to spend an afternoon browsing through all the rooms.

It has limited hours, because it's run entirely by friendly volunteers, but it's worth arranging a visit. It has a great selection of used books in excellent condition for very reasonable prices, including a lot of recent popular books. I picked up a recent paperback bestseller for $3 and a hardcover for $7, and my best score was a signed paperback copy of Sarah McBride's memoir for only $4. If you love shopping for used books like I do, this is a must visit.

When I asked, the lady running the station told me that all the items for sale were previously in circulation or held by the library in some capacity. I purchased a few DVDs and a first edition book that were very fairly priced, and looked to be brand new. There were no markings on either to indicate they were ever circulated, so I'm wondering if some items in the shop were also donated at one point or another. While I imagine the collection doesn't change over too often, I'll try and re-visit every month or so to see what else they've added. It's worth stopping in while you're visiting the library!

Owners Evita and Solise have created a space that shows appreciation to the culture, while celebrating the stories of people of African diaspora through literature and art. For those who are reading this and are from the DMV area think of Busboy & Poets but with a little twist. So what's the twist you ask? They offer beer and wine through a self-serve tap system. Meaning you receive a wristband that allows you to help yourself to a variety of local beers and wine. Each is charged by the ounce and is charged to your tab at the end of your visit. An added bonus is two of the wines that were available were made in-house; the Concord Jungle and Mizz Education. We enjoyed the Mizz Education which is a sweet and refreshing Moscato so much we ended up taking two bottles home with us. Let me just say this, I've been to my fair share of restaurants for brunch and the food at Concrete Rose hands down is the top 5 best food I've ever had. We tried a variety of options which include the Salmon Avocado Toast, Soul of the Sea and Chicken wings with concord bbq sauce. All were seasoned, cooked and plated to perfection. Whew Lord just thinking about those crab cakes with herbed garlic butter and remoulade sauce has me thinking about taking a road trip to get some more. Ambiance, food and service are all top tier at A Concrete Rose. Do yourself a favor and check them out. There's so much there for you to see and try! This store is a bit larger than the aforementioned one - this building stands alone on the eastern part of the city and has a bigger selection to choose from. The staff is very friendly and told me that there are more books in the back that are opened to the public a few times a year when the library runs one of their big book sales. Still, even without the additional books from the back, you're bound to find something up front that you'll enjoy.

Ansley's talk about the book nerd tchotchkes - unmatched. Dangerous. A true test of self-control. If you've ever wanted socks, mugs, pens, puzzles, stickers, or stuffies that loudly announce I READ, this is your spot. They do tend to run pricey, but I think that's typical of all mall stores, and I'd rather buy from a local shop than Amazon if I can help it. Theres a BAM membership you can sign up for that helps, and they do occasionally have nice sales, so just be on the look out for those if you're looking to save a few bucks.
