Love the selection and love some of the esoterica (an old-timey syringe, old Choose Your Own Adventures, etc), but the prices are at times random and at times schizophrenic. One guy working there said they got a lot of their prices from the Internet. The problem is there are very few true bargains -- if I picked up 100 books, 90 of them were priced $2-3 more than my mental upper limit. I so badly wanted to love this place -- and still spent maybe $70 -- but if their prices weren't apparently based on the randomly high prices Amazon.com third party vendors set on rare items, I would have spent $300. My friend said, "They are not pricing things to move!" Maybe there isn't a huge turnover in stock (I'm out of town) so it doesn't matter... But they had a small group of out of town bookstore-lovers WANTING to spend money, and we all left feeling "meh." read more

I love going into bookstores. Mostly tho see if any of my books are there to be signed. Rarely have I found a store that was just so interesting. The moment I walked in I deeply regretted not having enough time to wander the store and browse. Every where I looked I saw things I wanted too buy. I was able too sign some of my books and buy a DVD I had wanted for years. As an additional bonus the sales staff was extremely courteous and helpful. This may be the best bookstore I've ever been in, and I've been to many! We have several Half Price Books locations in Houston, and we're big fans, but they have nothing on Bookmans. It truly made me sad to leave, knowing we'll probably never have a chance to come back. read more

Several times I have brought used books and things in to Bookman's and they never take anything. Today was the last straw. I brought in a switcher and 4 preview monitors I bought used for $130. I needed them for a play, and don't need them any more. Bookman's looked at them and offered me nothing. When I asked why they said "because they look big, bulky, and old". Isn't that the point? It's a USED electronics store. So I guess the moral of the story is don't waste your time hauling equipment in unless it looks brand new. Of course, people who want to buy something brand new will probably just buy it from Best Buy or Target, but whatever. Not only that, but I found a book I liked and thought about buying, until I looked at the price. $15 for a book in used condition and published in 1959. I went home and found the same book brand new on Amazon for $9, as well as a used copy for $0.98. Really disappointed, this place could be such a great resource for the community, but they're just in it to make as much money as they can by ripping people off. Shame on you, Bookman's. read more

The best bookstore in Arizona (also the one in Mesa too and the Book Bank in Globe). I love the new look they made. It makes it easier to find the books you want and much more spacious. You can trade in books and get free credit (like you traded in a few books and they give you $30 credit)...WOOOHOOO! You have $30 to spend on new books or magazines (or CD's, movies, or records). Such a great place to be. My husband & I went last week (the first time in 3 months). We love it there. read more

One man's junk is another man's treasure for sure. Nothing's more fun than going on a little treasure hunt. They sell used items, but lightly used for the most part and the electronics are tested to make sure they're in a working condition. read more

There are several Bookman's in Arizona, all of them in college towns. The used bookstore selection is pretty good. You can browse all you want, have coffee, and browse some more. Prices are a little high on some of the stuff, but probably it is out of print so you better grab it. Flagstaff is a beautiful town that I love to visit in the summer. Cool air and clear blue skies, and you can smell pine trees everywhere. If you like trains, and I do, there is one about every 10 minutes. read more

I love Bookman's. They are the best - the store, the books/music/magazines/etc, the employees. They give cookies to your dog (who is welcome in the store!), discounts for having children, giftcards to your kids on their birthdays. They have a beautifully remodeled bathroom with seating for breast-feeding moms. They encourage loitering, display art, have local musicians play and offer donuts with bacon on top. Does it get any better than that? I think not. Go there. Buy something. Or just hang out all day with your dog or your baby reading books. read more

I once walked into Bookman's looking for a single book. I walked out with a used Atari, a bunch of entertaining vintage magazines, and the number of a really cute boy. I will never underestimate Bookman's ever again. A perfect day in Flagstaff used to be going to Bookman's AND Buffalo Exchange, as there is no better way to sell/buy things in the same place than those two places. read more

To me, Bookman's is Flagstaff in one store. It's a little spastic and full of random, awesome finds and fun people. I'm very happy with this location. It is stocked and has a lot to offer. One of the main things they offer is extremely good customer service. I called and spoke with the representative because I was looking for a book on driving in the winter and he spent a lot of time looking for this type of book. When I arrived he had some examples not exactly what I was looking for but I could tell that he really made an effort. One of the best (and only used book stores in Flagstaff). A fun, friendly staff and decent product selection. My only suggestion would be for them to add a simple product catalog. I don't know if a store of Bookman's capacity can accommodate such a thing but you must be prepared to come in with book title, author, etc. to be able to find what you are looking for. This place is amazing for book lovers, internet junkies, and coffee drinkers. Their customer service is always great and they have helped me several times to find something I was looking for. To top it off they have two winners each day, and last night, I won my purchase of 2 adult coloring books (retailed at $12.00), but still I got them for free! I love going here to look through their selection of books and magazines and board games, so many freakin' board games! We went last night to look for Go, but completely forgot what we were there for once I saw the coloring books. We are definitely considering selling/trading our small collection of books and games here before we head of to a new city. read more

Found some great used books ... Staff at Barrista bar has always been friendly and excellent. The coffee is great. Some of the other staff tho have seemed a bit lazy at times not wanting to walk from the front counter. No all, just some. The free wireless is great except I cannot send emails, just receive them. Bookmans is a haven for someone like me. There's not too many places one can go, hang out & read all you want without getting scolded for not buying something. Not only that, but they are willing to help you out if you help them out via exchanges. Long live exchange! Their coffee bar is wonderful as well. Flavorful, well-made espresso drinks at the right temperature, at least each time I've gone. PLUS! Nintendo 64 games galore, thank goodness! This is the most awesome place for used books. I used to come here just to read with a cup of gourmet coffee in one hand and book in the other. It's the perfect place for students. You also receive your fair share of entertainment while here. I would also sell back many of my books here and make a pretty penny. What's not to like? Here you have a large used bookstore with a delicious, affordable cafe that has every book under the sun for cheap and will give you money or store credit for books you would like to get rid of. They are friendly, there is so much to look through, seating is ample and comfortable. The plus is that the place is environmentally friendly; promoting book/paper recycling, more trees and less garbage. A+++ read more

I am a longtime fan of Bookmans even though I live four hours east of Flagstaff in New Mexico I visit all of the six Bookmans in Arizona whenever I am in town. They have a good selection of everything. I would have rated them 5 stars several years ago but now they are super selective in what they buy back. I still love them. Any chance of opening up a store in Albuquerque now that Hastings has closed all of its stores? I know that there was discussion of that happening when I asked about 5-6 years ago. Now would be an excellent time to open one! read more

Fun place. Of course, it's potluck whether they have the exact book/video/CD/game or whatever you're looking for. The most popular stuff goes out the door fast. But if you shop by category, not by specific title, you can almost always find something of interest on the shelves. It's a browser's paradise, clean, attractive, well-lit with spacious sections, comfortable places to sit, and merchandise that is neat and well organized. One caveat: you are the disadvantaged party in trading. They can't treat you otherwise, I suppose, to keep the place running at a time when most independent multimedia stores are being driven out of business by the big box stores and online purchasing. Example: As a gift, I received a beautiful, newly published coffee table book that retails for $60. Unfortunately, I already had bought the book. I took the pristine gift copy to sell at Bookmans. Wait for it... They offered me one dollar (or five dollars' store credit). I didn't feel like being robbed that day so I walked away, as anyone who hasn't been lobotomized would have. I'll never try to sell or trade there again. it would have been far better for the buyer to just politely turn me down with a, "We're not stocking that title right now" or some other excuse than try to steal it from me. Such a slap in the face tells me how little they understand about building goodwill and customer loyalty and how much they know about sharp dealing. If you have an attic full of your deceased aunt Martha's books, don't think you'll make a killing selling them at Bookman's. They buy little, offer payment as rock bottom as they can get away with, and I knew perfectly well that had I been foolish enough to sell them my $60 book for a buck that they would have marked it up at least 3,000% and put it on their shelves. read more

Great place to buy books, music, games, and almost any other entertainment. They've even got some old records for pretty cheap here and there if you like jazz or classical and their selection is really wide and full of great stuff. Their coffee is pretty good, too. My one complaint is that although they greatly advertise that they do exchanges and buy books and media, they certainly sell their products for much higher prices than they'll pay for yours.... read more

Simply stated, Bookmans is the best multi-media store that I've been to in the country. There are so many choices of items from great musical instruments - I've bought guitars, guitar effects, African drums etc. - from their Tucson, Mesa and Flagstaff store. The selection of books is incredible and I can spend big $ there on that alone. The lp selection is good as are the CD choices though I don't collect CDs like I used to so I don't focus on that. They also have a good DVD and blu-ray selection and lots of video games. The staff is friendly and knowledgable and I get really good deals when I trade stuff in. read more

I went in to exchange some books for store credit. I had about 20 books in all fairly good condition, but it turns out they only wanted 1 of them! Luckily it was worth a lot more in store credit than it was in cash so it was worth the trip. As for the other 19 books that I was planning on exchanging, they'll be going to charity. read more

Only problem is the stoner hippie employees and the outrageous prices. 18 some dollars for a used game that costs 20 new at Walmart, and it's scratched get outta town! Bookman's is great. This is my favorite location of all of them. The staff is friendly and fun. The selection is pretty good. I love being able to sell my stuff for trade then turn around and buy a bunch of books, CDs, games or whatever. One time I even got a belt there.
