This is one of my favorite places to go browse around in. I don't think I have ever walked in looking for something specific, but always walk out with something. They are like the Walmart of entertainment. Besides being predominantly a book store, they also have tons of games, magazines, posters, cds, vinyls, dvds, blu-rays, posters, you name it. My favorite section is the videogame department; they have everything new and retro, including old NES, SNES, Sega and more. So whenever I'm bored, or looking for cool new-old things, I go to Bookmans. read more

Bookmans is like my little winter wonderland. Prior to Kindle, I would roam the isles in awe of so many amazing books on the most random subjects. Bookmans is not like a Barnes and Noble by any means. Bookmans has soul and every book there was once read by someone who found the book amazing enough to pay full price. I have a love/hate relationship with my Kindle. When it is on hate, I run into the arms of my former flame. Being a bookaholic is expensive. Most books at Bookmans are about half of what they would be at retail price which means double the books! Can I get a heck yes?! Everyone at Bookmans is sweet and will help you find what you need with zero attitude. The main thing that I love about Bookmans is that you never know what you will find. It can almost be described as reading books according to fate :-) I cannot count how many books I have gotten from Bookmans or the ways that the books helped me in one way or another at a given point in my life. This place carries everything! From books, to dvds, to RPGs, and action figures, posters, purses, jewelry, little trinkets. I love to shop here. I just recently came here with my pup, and was waiting outside for a friend. Then the lady working there tells me that they are pet friendly!!! Whaaaaa??? Definitely one of the best Bookman's in Arizona. The one's in Tucson are great too, but they are kinda small here, but this one has a large amount of things to look at and buy. I also like that they are a little bit cheaper than the ones in Tucson. The wife and I found some foreign DVD's that we were looking for, for only $3. Manga and anime selection is pretty good here, especially when you compare it to Zia and other bookstores in Arizona. read more

FIrst fell in love with Bookmans in Tucson (two sons went to U of A). Then Flagstaff store. Cooling off there in summer. I LIKE the Phoenix store and usually spend a couple hours browsing. My complaint? Three times I've gone in with books to sell, and they have never taken ONE. Very disappointing. read more

A jewel of Phoenix with a vast selection of books, magazines, games and more. Every book I've bought has been around $5 and in perfect condition, and they're well known and popular books like Pretty Little Liars. If they don't have it, come back, they just might in the future. read more

I came in to this store for one reason only. I was interested in their comic book section. The comic book section is crazy, not organized and books are not bagged or boarded. But crazy can be fun, hunting for issues that you might be missing from your collection or finding something new that interests you. At .50 a book who can beat that, although do not expect to find mint or nm books since most have been shuffled through, opened, and carelessly handled, but still enjoyed trying to find something that might be a treasure in this haystack. read more

Like this location. Near my home. At times the working folks can be a bit hoity or rude. I think they have to deal with a lot of riff raff and homeless. So even when they meet and talk to normal people, like us, they seem to have their dukes up. Other times everyone is super nice and helpful. We buy instruments here mostly. read more

I have known for a long time that we Arizonans are lucky to have Bookmans. However, I have found the best stuff at this Phoenix location. Coming from the picky old hipster in disguise p.o.v., I have uncovered treasures in home decor, vinyl, and literature. My favorite score was finding the David Bowie classics Hunky Dory, Ziggy, and Diamond Dogs on vinyl for a grand total of $16. 2 of the 3 were in excellent condition. Great selection of cool titles in literature and always some fun finds for decorating the bungalow. Most of the clerks are nice and helpful too! read more

Not as great as they used to be. I brought a mountain of books and CDs to trade. Although they give more than other exchanges they only took 6 items I brought in 400. So if you need more they are the place to go but they take way less so you might not want to bother and find a place that leaves you feeling good about exchanging your treasures. read more

Back when my eight year old was in Kindergarten, I was struggling to get him to really enjoy reading. Every Thursday after school, I would bring him and his little brother to this Bookman's. We would spend time browsing all the old toys and children's book area, but what really caught my son's attention were the comics. My sons and I bonded over being nerds together, and my eight year old is on to chapter books now. read more

I have been frequenting Bookmans both in Phoenix and Flagstaff for several years now, and I left a review this past January that was critical of several aspects of the business. I felt the need at this point to reassess my review here, because my experience with the Bookmans in West Phoenix as of late has been dichotomously different than before. Their selection of books, especially quantum physics and religion/spirituality subjects, is heavily refreshed from when it was just recycled authors and topic matter for a while. Also, the knick-knack section, which for a while was stale with the same old product, is now so full with many new ones that random shelves all over the store are adorned with the overflow. Granted, I have noticed the price of those knick-knacks, especially the ones with the Asian motif(s) increasing in price lately, but one is still more than able to find something little and neat within a good price range should one look hard enough. Finally, the attitudes and demeanors of the staff there, at least the ones I have had the pleasure to interact with lately, are all very pleasant and positive, and very very helpful. Just today, I was helped above and beyond by several employees regarding locating and purchasing a few books that even on my very limited budget currently, are necessary for my research and authorship. In no way am I taking back my previous review, but I am definitely impressed with, and won over by the Bookmans experiences I have had recently, and just wanted to say thank you to them for their help and customer service, and for providing a place near my home where I can go and get lost for a few in a wonderful way--whether I buy a basketful of books, or just am perusing all the ones I would one day like to afford:-). read more

Overall a great place to hang out, go book hunting, and trade books. When it comes to trading, it all depends on who you get behind the counter! One morning they took 3 books out of 5 bags. Later that same day, a different person took over half of them. Also, if you're a Christian or conservative looking for such stuff, they will be very rude to you. read more

Help I'm poor! Haha just kidding, I cannot stop buying from this store though! Bookman's is THE place to be! I've been coming to this store since it first opened and now it's like a second home. The staff is always friendly and helpful with your questions, it is just great customer service. Anyways, I'm a Barbie collector and this place never runs out of these dolls as well as a numerous amount of other things. Also, I love the author V.C Andrews and they have tons of her books to read, it's marvelous! This place is awesome! Know why? It's completely dog friendly! Where one might expect to see a "service dogs only" sticker on the door, instead I found a "pets on leashes always welcome" sticker instead. Woo hoo! There are almost no words to describe how awesome this store is. The concept of a store that dabbles in everything from antique trinkets, to videogames is great. The staff is always very friendly and shopping there is a surprise every time. There is a little something for every type of person. I was able to obtain the Star Trek seasons there. This place has gotten "too big for their britches!" A waste of time trying to trade in books and video games. I brought in a very rare game, factory sealed and was offered $5 credit for it! The lowest amount I was offered at local area pawnshops was $100 cash and I didn't even have to sell it, just pawn it! Their posted "wanted" list of types of books they seek is useless. They don't go by that at all. The staff is arrogant, with one employee even bragging that many people just tell Bookman's to "keep" their merchandise for free so they (Bookman's) don't "need to offer" us (the customer) a dime for our products. Very over-priced, especially with musical instruments, video games and knick knacks. Employees can't seem to be bothered if you need assistance, and it doesn't appear that they even keep a running inventory in their computers. A customer ahead of me had a nice selection of rare books, and was offered $0 for them. Did they have the books in their store? No. We both checked. On the way out of the store, a customer coming in saw his books and made him an offer on them and then on some of mine! We left in a good mood, butt due to luck, and not Bookman's. There are many other local places to purchase used books and games that are far less expensive than Bookman's. I felt like all the customers there were just cattle lining up to get a number. The arrogance and ignorance of the staff they currently have was very disappointing. Save your money and go elsewhere. As for trading in items, it's only worth it if you definitely don't want the item anymore, you don't want to waste any more of your time trying to trade it in elsewhere and if you take the credit offer and not the cash. Some people claim the Mesa Bookman's is much better than this location. They are probably 100% correct because this location can't get much worse. read more

Bookmans has a large selection of books, CD's and other miscellaneous items. The cool thing is that you will never know what you will find on a visit to this store. It's an exchange based store so there will be times when they may not have what you are looking for. The staff could use a little help because if you are looking for an item they seem to shy away from wanting to help. I love this location. Every time I have been in this location all staff members have been very helpful and friendly. My best experience was oddly after I had been robbed. I came into this location and found 4 of the 6 missing items that had been stolen from my very large Pinocchio collection (collection is in honor of a friend who passed away back in 1992). After waiting for 14 and a half hours over 2 days for the cops to show up they finally did. To both my shock as well as the officers the manager just gave me the items instead of making me pay or putting on hold til a court date. That was the nicest thing that had been done for me at that time. read more

One of the best secondhand stores you'll ever see. A massive library of books (I have, at times, actually gotten lost in it), a good pick of vinyls and movies (With a surprisingly large Blu-Ray Section), and a gaming section which, while the pricing can be a bit on the high end, is to DIE for.
