Everything on the shelf was a $1.00

Fabulous. I just got back from the Annual VNSA Book Sale and managed to score $60 worth of books for only $6. The VNSA Book Sale only happens once a year in February and it's always the same weekend. It is free unless you come here in a car. Parking is $7. I rode my bike over here and brought my backpack. . The last day is the best because everything is marked down even lower. You'll find books reduced from $1.00 to .50 cents! Amazingly cheap! Everything is divided by categories and genres, fiction and non-fiction. Until you've come here and experienced it yourself, you have no idea. The volunteers are more than helpful and all the proceeds goes to charities. It's fantastic. I love it.

VNSA made this photo frame for us (made out of cardboard). I am holding it up. Reminds me of Polaroid. Yes, I (heart) books ;)

It was once located in the University Center (UCENT) Building and is now located on the northeast corner of the new law school building. I enjoy browsing the many Sun Devil items from State 48 shirts to books to gifts for others to fancy button-down shirts and polos for me. They honor discounts for alumni and employees. I visited the store recently just after the start of the new semester, and they even had a few items up for sale. The staff are helpful and friendly, and there is plenty for everyone as the store is a good size with all sorts of potential gift items for others or yourself. Paid parking is available in lots or in meters just around the area where the store is. It is open Mondays through Thursdays from 9 AM to 4:30 PM and Fridays from 9 AM to 4 PM. It is closed Saturdays and Sundays. There are several different areas within the store from the bookstore in the back to the general campus store throughout the rest of the store. There is also an active store online, where you can sign up for e-mails and get 10% off today by going to https://www.bkstr.com/arizonastatestore. Every now and then, there are clearance sales or employee or alumni appreciation sales including discounts on Apple educator prices each year. Two years ago, I recall a promotion where many products were 75% or more off in a grand clearance, which I've only seen happen once every so many years. I highly recommend any Sun Devil student, faculty, staff, alumni, or fan in general to visit this store at some point!

I was pleasantly surprised to find this B&N and while I am sad that all the Forever 21s are now bankrupt, I'm glad there is a business in this location. This is a 2 story B&N and I was able to find all the books I was looking for and then some! I deducted one star because their escalators were not working and they only had one set of escalators you could walk up and down on. This made for some traffic. My other reason is for closing at 7pm on a Sunday. I know thats already one hour extra than the mall, but come on here, youre a bookstore, you could at least keep it open until 8pm?! I guess I am used to big city hours so that was kind of annoying. Otherwise, a really great B&N! They have an upstairs coffee shop and tons of people parked in here, reading, working, etc. Bathrooms also available, not as clean as the rest of Phoenix public bathrooms, but it wasnt gross like big city public bathrooms. Those are super yucky. I'd definitely come back here again when I need to find a book!

It's a small shop but full of energy and culture, felt even in the quiet opening hour on a Friday. I wasn't looking for anything in particular other than to support an independently owned business. I looked through the cute children's corner, the cookbooks, history, music, and more. The book that caught my eye and that I ended up purchasing: When Broadway was Black. They also have a seed library, art to purchase, and more. Grassroots is located in downtown Phoenix and is not only a bookstore but a juice bar. Unfortunately, I was there early, and the food and drink window was not open at the time, but it's just a good excuse to return. They offer smoothies, fresh juices, coffee, and tea. The employees coming in were jovial and went out of their way to greet me across the room. As I checked out, the owner and I chatted about other bookshops that we've visited in town. He was super friendly, the kind of owner that truly takes pride in their business and make you want to support them. Per their social media, it looks like they host regular chess nights and have an upcoming open mic night tomorrow. Get out and support local Black owned businesses.
