The staff always make contact when you walk through the door. They have a couple shelves they keep on the side walk just outside the front door with books for $2-$3. Cheap books are nice to see considering the cost of many books. I would like to see sitting areas other than the coffee shop tables. I'm giving this location 2 stars because of how uncomfortable an employee made our visit. I was there with my kids in the children's area, which has a small kid-sized table. They brought a few toys over to the table so they could look at them while I was sitting with them. An employee complained to the manager about it, then started hovering around us, taking items from the table when the kids stepped away, and repeatedly asking where things had gone. I told him clearly that we would put everything back before we left, but the hovering continued. I completely understand employees needing to keep track of merchandise, and if the store has a policy against bringing toys to the children's table, that could have simply been explained to us once. Instead, the way it was handled made us feel watched and unwelcome. The interaction made me uncomfortable enough that I decided not to make a purchase and left instead. For a store with a dedicated children's area and kid-sized table, I expected a much more family-friendly experience. read more

Pretty irritated that myself and about 20 other moms were waiting in line for an hour before the store opened in search of Nee Dohs. The staff waited until they opened to tell us they didn't get any in this week's shipment. I'm sure the employees are as sick of us asking if they have any in stock as we are of running around trying to score one for our kid, but come on - a little courtesy would go a long way. I'm already wasting too much of my day as it is on this futile search, so please, at least give us a heads up so we aren't wasting an hour in line for nothing. read more

I used to never stepped foot into a Books-A-Million until Amazon prompted their big competitor to start closing stores years back. The store in Marsh Landing is large, clean, and well-organized with a good selection of books and helpful employees. There are too many teen-oriented books and toys, but every good business must follow the money. They also used to have a great magazine selection, which has been significantly reduced. The arts section could be larger as well. This location beats going to the competitor in Town Center with the difficult parking. I also like to patronize independent book stores, and we have some great ones in the area. Of course, no one can deny that they occasionally purchase from Amazon, which has been the root cause of the death of independent bookstores. read more

This place is horrible not worth it at all and everything is so expensive and don't come here seriously go to used bookstores they are the best and more affordable plus you find all kinds of books for a best price! I come to BAM once every six months hoping to find a few specific things that I need. They do have a large selection, especially with magazines. One of my kids likes their massive comic book selection, while I could hang out in the coffee shop and be quite content. This location is always clean, employees are present and helpful, and everything is well marked. However somehow, whatever I came in looking for is never on the shelf and I have to special order it. In the end, I gravitate to the magazine e rack, not only entertaining myself but buying several magazines I did not realize I had to have until that point and time. I would like to give it a better rating, but in the end I get more books from Amazon than I do here. read more

Went today to gladly purchase James Comey's new book. One of the working employees was out front as I was walking in and turned in front of me and went into the door first. I know she saw me, I was literally 3 feet behind her. She opened the door for herself, and let it slam closed in my face. I was pretty taken aback by a complete lack of manners for your potential customers. I left immediately and promptly ordered the book online through another retailer. I REALLY want these brick and mortar stores to make it, but the complete lack of basic customer service skills sometimes blows my mind. They should take a look one-door down at Publix...there's a corporation that's figured out how to keep customers long ago! Sorry, BAM...looks like you'll be joining Radio Shack soon. read more

Like another reviewer mentioned. The upselling is HORRIBLE. We had to make a return, and the manager kept blathering about it, over and over. I told him I had already declined when I bought the items, but that didn't stop him from going on and on. Then, to add to the nonsense, he berated an employee in front of me for failing to properly charge me for their holiday bag, by a measly penny. Yes, you read that right, for a penny. This couldn't have waited? You had to embarrass them in front of a customer?! When it came time for the upsell on the member card, and he began to prattle on , I almost told him that the only reason we came in was because my kids had gift cards. Moving on... The bathrooms are disgusting. In the ladies room, two stalls didn't lock, the big stall was dirty, and in the final stall, it barely flushed. And they smelled. Next time I need a bookstore fix, I will stop in at Barnes and Noble. read more

Used to hang out in BAMM all the time when I lived in the community right behind it and worked at the Publix. Wow, I feel old as I haven't been at that Publix (as an employee) for over 13 years! I do stop in here from time to time, but it's never because I'm looking for something, it's more because I have time to kill and need something to fill my free minutes. (I'm a Barnes & Noble girl when I'm not shopping local) Like any standard big-box store, it's got all the popular sellers & merchandise. It can be a little harder to find something that might night be as popular as Harry Potter. But the customer service staff has always been friendly when I had to interact with them. I do like the current setup as compared to how it used to be with the coffee bar right in the middle of the store (which again shows my age). It's a great place to meet a friend (or a pet-sitter) if you need to drop off something. Pretty central for Jax Beach & PV; and not even that far for someone off San Pablo or Hodges either. read more

Had an afternoon to kill in Ponte Vedra and needed to get some work done. Came to Books A Million and sat in the coffee bar. Had to purchase wifi, which was lame. But the coffee was good and it was the perfect place to work. Not too quiet but not so noisy or busy that it was distracting. Afterwards I browsed through the books and magazines for a bit. Great way to pass the day! Plus, it was walking distance to our hotel. read more

This morning I went into Jax Beach store and asked the check out person (who was not busy) where the New Releases (yesterday!) were located. She said, "well, our best sellers are right there and there are more down there....." I asked about New Releases, not Best Sellers. I ventured deeper into the store to see if someone else could be more helpful. I asked the girl stocking books where New Releases were and she told me to ask up front! What a waste of time! I have lived at the Beaches for overs 30 years and always try to keep my business "at the Beach" but I think I'll go to Barnes and Noble in town where people always ASK you what you're looking for! Surprised by the rudeness of staff. Grill you at checkout for all manner of up-selling, and then treat you with distain if you politely pass. Rather than a simple "thank you" for coming in, if you don't comply with their at-the-counter up-selling promotions of which you have zero interest, but for which the employees are clearly commissioned (as evidenced by how hard they push, and refusal to accept a simple "no thanks - not interested in subscribing to 3 magazines at this time", "not interested in subsidizing gifts for others at this time - already contributing through my church," etc.) - you get a snotty "Happy Holidays" dripping with sarcasm as you leave. How incredibly inappropriate. Thought I was there to buy books, not be subjected to used-car-sales techniques at a Books a Million. It was so insulting, I finally called and spoke with the "manager," who refused to listen to a thing I said. Don't waste your time with this type of treatment. Try the Barnes & Nobles at St. Johns Town Center instead. I've since headed there to do more of my holiday shopping, and it was a normal, pleasant shopping experience where you get to buy what you came in for, and they're actually grateful for the business - imagine that! read more
