The cutest lil bookstore in downtown historic Fernandina Beach. We were strolling along the area after having a meal at the Salty Pelican and I couldn't help but stop by this bookstore. If you know me, I have a huuuuge soft spot for bookstores and this was no exception! Walking in, it had a great layout and a variety of books. There was one staff member who was super friendly and helpful. I didn't end up buying a book (I have way too many and didn't want to add any to my luggage for my flight home) but I ended up buying a postcard with a wonderful illustration of the view right outside. 5 star recommend, support independent bookstores! read more

If you are a book lover and are spending time at the beach or the local area, The Book Loft is the perfect place to grab your next great read. We stopped into this charming little store while out-n-about shopping on Center Street in Amelia Island. It was good to see a mix of displays throughout the store; genres included political, cooking, DIY's, romantic, vampire, and much more. There was some seating available, however, limited to the upstairs portion of the store. The store owner was helpful in directing me to the history and biography section. The only thing The Loft is missing was the in-house coffee shop. I always feel great supporting local. If I lived here locally, I would frequent this store often. I recommend stopping into The Book Loft if you are in the area. read more

A very nice popular selection bookstore in a lovely walkable tourism-oriented neighborhood! The setup for your walkable book-browsing experience was wonderful. They had several new books and some "classic" books that were on my wishlist. (They also have a decent classics section. By "classic" I mean books that are not new, but are often sought modernly, like the first book in the Bosch series by Connolly.) Perhaps owing to the tourism orientation, I felt comfortable making a recommendation to another customer and I had a wonderful conversation with the young lady running the checkout counter about books I'd picked up as well as others we would recommend to each other. Such a nice bookstore on the Main Street in downtown Fernadina! What I like is many of the best sellers right now, are grouped there together and are paper back so it isn't a major investment with a hardback book ! They have a great variety and pleasant staff for help. Many books are signed bec authors come to the store for a "met and greet"! read more

If you like spring mom and pop local spots, this is the spot! This adorable book shop was a gem of a find in historic Fernandina. I love the smell of a real book store and this place had it down to an art. The shelves and shelves of books are easy to navigate with plenty of signage. If you can't find something the store employee was really knowledgeable about the offerings. A few seats can be found dispersed throughout. The store itself is a snug place size wise, but this just added to the cozy feel. Overall: A Makes you want to curl up with a new book and get lost in the pages. read more

I love old bookstores like this. Searching through the shelves for a new book has an incomparably exciting feeling which makes you look forward to a new story. I didn't feel rushed to find something quickly. I browsed all their sections and went home with an unconventional souvenir from Fernandina Beach. Located right at the top of the northernmost beach town in Florida on the cusp of the state line separating it from Georgia is this quirky beach town with character and old city charm. It's an independent bookstore owned by locals providing some of the best variety of printed texts in the area. They also have some newer books as well in the front but be sure to set aside time to properly scan the aisles uninterrupted. They are very welcoming here which made my experience so much better. read more

The Book Loft is a charming, small book shop with a really great collection. I enjoy every chance I get to visit this store when I am in town. I could easily spend hours scanning the shelves for something new and interesting to read. During my last visit here the woman on staff, was happy to help answer any questions I had. I've visited this bookstore for the last...4 years?? Every time I come down to Amelia Island for a couple of days I always make sure to stop by at this place and pick up a book! This is one of my favorite independent bookstores that I have ever been to! It is a good size and has a great variety of books from every genre you can think of! I will always be making a trip to this store as long as I keep coming back to Amelia Island! Go check out this place! Definitely a place for any book lover. This has become one of my favorite local book stores. It's larger than it looks from the outside. Besides the neat, historic building, I love that they sell lots of history and historical fiction books (mostly upstairs). I also loved the large local selection to the left as you come through the front door. Why don't more bookstores do this? There I found fiction and non-fiction about the area and books by local authors. The pirate section is sure to be a hit with kids. Throughout the store I noticed about an even collection of new and gently used books. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Even if you don't find a book you're interested in, it's worth a visit to see the inside of this historic building. read more

This is my favorite independent bookstore in Florida. Actually it is one of my favorite book stores in the country and I only wish I was able to visit on a regular basis. The look of the store is exactly what I wish all book stores were like. A bit of an open area when you first walk in the door, with displays of recent publications on small tables, and a small counter that is staffed with some one who loves books. Instantly I felt at home, never rushed, and allowed to wander around pulling books and chatting with the woman at the counter about first editions, out of the way books stores around the country, and what we have on our own shelves at home. Away from the front area, the rest of the first floor is a little bit dimmer in light, with tall wood book cases creating little alcoves of diffrent genres, and peace to browse. I was not able to find all of the books I thought of, but the basics are here, as well as some unexpected translations of rather old European classics. What I could not find, the store was more than willing to order. We chatted for awhile about ebooks, and the effect on business, and I was told that it has not hurrt them as much as they thought it would, so I expect this place will not be closing it's doors aany time soon. Also, to show the need to still own my favorite books in hard cover, we looked at beautiful prints and maps in Christopher Moore's most recent novel. I always love to learn more about books and authors, and I was not dissapointed here. If you are in town you MUST stop in. Oh, the now food or drink sign on the door seems to be relative. They evaluate your trustworthiness on sight to determine if you can bring in your coffee. read more
