Charming local bookstore with a good combination of new and vintage books. Very helpful, very friendly, good prices. I happened in and was very glad I came. I recommend.

The bears all around the store create a bit of whimsy and silliness for adults. Super cute!

Lovely little used book store with lots of stuffed bears! They stayed open a bit late so we could keep browsing. Nice lady, nice place!

We were excited to shop here but wanted a bigger variety of children's books. Cute store though.

For me, this place is ideal. I prefer to purchase and keep books so I'm not checking out at…read morelibraries too often anymore, but I also appreciate a good DEAL and not having to pay so much for brand new books. Well-Read books is not a huge bookstore, but still has a nice selection for the space, and everything is really well organized by genre. There's more to look at than you'd think when first entering the store and I always end up taking more time here than I expect. A lot of books are obviously worn, but still readable (I've never seen them selling anything that was too torn up to read), while some appear to be just like new. Because of this, the price does range, but overall it's still going to be cheaper here than somewhere like a Barnes & Noble. On my most recent visit I bought a Nancy Drew book for $5 (I've been wanting to pick one up again to re-read as an adult since I loved the series as a kid, just for some light, nostalgic reading) which I don't consider to be an amazing deal, as I can get them for that price and less from places like Ebay, but I was still really happy to see so many Nancy Drew books there I decided to go for it anyway, and they have so many other interesting books for much less too. If you are a reader, I absolutely recommend this place. Whether you are a local or just passing through, it's worth the stop!

Porthole Books, Gardiner OR Reviewed by: Brian Peet…read more When my fiancé, Katelyn, told me that a famous best-selling author owned this store, I was amazed! We arrived in this remote town (south of Florence) to this bookstore which was the third and final one we visited that day. We were surprised to see it closed, even though the hours online said it would be open. Katelyn went ahead and called the owner. She answered and let her know the clerc was at lunch and would be back soon, but we didn't mind waiting. When the clerc arrived, we explored. There were multiple rooms and many paperbacks. Then, I saw a newspaper article about the author/owner, which was above a glass case with books about Peter, Samson, etc. Finally, I understood! I grew up reading this author. Many church libraries have her books! I got a book about the Oregon State Jail which we have discussed about before. I wouldn't mind coming here again, but as a note, it's probably best to bring cash just in case. Reviewed: June 2019 Visited: June 2019

Since my first visit (and review), I have continued to visit Ancient Light every time I am staying…read morein Waldport, so at least a couple times a year. While I am still pretty clueless about most of the items they sell, I have continue to learn a lot by going in and asking about any/every interesting thing I see. It's incredibly fascinating and I learn something new every time. Their friendliness and willingness to talk/teach while not being judgemental or condescending is so very appreciated. They seem to genuinely enjoy what they do and talking with visitors. I have finally bought some things too, instead of just going in and aimlessly looking around and asking silly questions. I have picked up two dream books and have my eye on a couple of others that I would love to purchase if they are still available when I come back. I've also grabbed a couple of the smaller (and less expensive) geodes that I just thought were beautiful, and probably some other small pieces that I can't remember at the moment. This last time I went in, I finally asked about this red Lucky Cat bank I have been eyeing for months (a year??) now. I went in with my boyfriend and he bought it for me. I know it's silly but I spent a lot of time thinking about that Lucky Cat and I am so happy nobody else bought it before us because it makes me really happy to have it now. Sometimes it's just the little things :) And with their range of items, something is bound to stand out to you like that too. I have absolutely no complaints and wouldn't change a single thing about this shop, but I know that some people might have a problem with the "mess". I don't know if I even feel comfortable calling it a "mess", I think they just have a lot going on, and they've mentioned that they are always working on reorganizing and going through new things. I personally think it adds to the appeal though a little bit. Another reviewer says it's like a treasure hunt, and I absolutely agree! If you've made it this far in my review, it probably already goes without saying that this is one of my favorite little shops in Waldport, I'm so grateful it's here, and I am always looking forward to my next visit!

I made a right turn and found a parking spot right in front of Nye Beach Book House. Never been, I decided to check it out, especially as supporter of indie bookstores. The past four days I've stopped by bookstores in Bandon, Waldsport, Manzanita, and Lincoln City. It's always feels like a combo of adventure, treasure hunt, and spontaneity checking out the shelves. Made it up the stairs, opened the door gate, and greeted the presumed owner. She was very welcoming and offered assistance to any genre of interest in the bookstore. Always a good sign when others were also actively browsing. I always make a beeline to cookbooks. I found a particular title of interest, became giddy, and definitely will make the sale. To be fair, I did wander other sections too. Well arranged, well curated, and that bookstore scent. Looks like cash transactions are preferred over cards, just an fyi. Thankfully, my purchase was an even twenty bucks. Completed my purchase and wished the owner a good day. I wish I knew the journey of how this title and particular find found its way to Nye Beach Book House. I also wonder how folks with mobility limitations can visit this book store with stairs and its tight spots for maneuverbility. Me being a notorious klutz, I made sure to take care going up and down the stairs. A spontaneous visit and finding this title, I later discover it's worth over five to nearly seven times what was paid. This bookstore is quirky, unique, and definitely worth a visit for any bibliophile!
