Other items for purchase like cards, bags, buttons, stickers, puzzles, art prints, ad naseum. Very welcoming and inclusive indie bookstore. By coincidence the day before while driving out to Cannon Beach from Depoe Bay, I caught an insightful NPR segment on the radio that discussed the history and future of indie bookstores. One of the panelists had their book on the non fiction shelf while at Bob's Beach Books, The Bookshop by Evan Friss.

Visiting them on a day they were open was my chance to see what they had. Unfortunately I couldn't check in here on Yelp because the cell service is not all that great down here, but I have pictures to prove that I visited. They have like every book and book accessory available, used and new. They are neatly organized by genre, which I truly appreciated. I picked up a novel by Michael Thomas Ford and a thumb thing for reading if I'm reading with one hand (whoever invented this thing is very smart and deserves a medal). I also got my mom a gardening journal as a possible Christmas present. My mom loves to garden so I think she'll love this. My boyfriend is a huge fan of Batman and One Piece and got himself some Batman comics and some One Piece manga books. The lady working the counter and who checked out books out was very nice and welcoming. She was also helping out a few people that needed assistance. With bookstores starting to become a thing of the past, Bob's is doing a great job staying in business and I hope they stay open for a very long time.

For me, this place is ideal. Well-Read books is not a huge bookstore, but still has a nice selection for the space, and everything is really well organized by genre. There's more to look at than you'd think when first entering the store and I always end up taking more time here than I expect. A lot of books are obviously worn, but still readable (I've never seen them selling anything that was too torn up to read), while some appear to be just like new. Because of this, the price does range, but overall it's still going to be cheaper here than somewhere like a Barnes & Noble. On my most recent visit I bought a Nancy Drew book for $5 (I've been wanting to pick one up again to re-read as an adult since I loved the series as a kid, just for some light, nostalgic reading) which I don't consider to be an amazing deal, as I can get them for that price and less from places like Ebay, but I was still really happy to see so many Nancy Drew books there I decided to go for it anyway, and they have so many other interesting books for much less too. If you are a reader, I absolutely recommend this place. Whether you are a local or just passing through, it's worth the stop!

In fact, the guy who was helping us had this really great conversation with my wife about all the Stephen King novels. She really enjoys his writings and I never quite got into a lot of his works so I'm sure she enjoyed that conversation, and I enjoyed it so much that I think I might start reading some of his novels. I just thoroughly enjoyed talking to that guy, and got some great books in the process. I would say that if you like history or fiction, this is definitely the store for you. They had a lot of nice touches like a blind date with a bookshelf, color coded tape in the romance section that indicated how "spicy" a book was, and cute stationary and cards. The blind date with the books were so cute, 25$ each but they come with stickers and would be such a good gift for someone. The books were also reasonably priced and they had some discount shelves. I will definitely be coming back here.

Since my first visit (and review), I have continued to visit Ancient Light every time I am staying…read morein Waldport, so at least a couple times a year. While I am still pretty clueless about most of the items they sell, I have continue to learn a lot by going in and asking about any/every interesting thing I see. It's incredibly fascinating and I learn something new every time. Their friendliness and willingness to talk/teach while not being judgemental or condescending is so very appreciated. They seem to genuinely enjoy what they do and talking with visitors. I have finally bought some things too, instead of just going in and aimlessly looking around and asking silly questions. I have picked up two dream books and have my eye on a couple of others that I would love to purchase if they are still available when I come back. I've also grabbed a couple of the smaller (and less expensive) geodes that I just thought were beautiful, and probably some other small pieces that I can't remember at the moment. This last time I went in, I finally asked about this red Lucky Cat bank I have been eyeing for months (a year??) now. I went in with my boyfriend and he bought it for me. I know it's silly but I spent a lot of time thinking about that Lucky Cat and I am so happy nobody else bought it before us because it makes me really happy to have it now. Sometimes it's just the little things :) And with their range of items, something is bound to stand out to you like that too. I have absolutely no complaints and wouldn't change a single thing about this shop, but I know that some people might have a problem with the "mess". I don't know if I even feel comfortable calling it a "mess", I think they just have a lot going on, and they've mentioned that they are always working on reorganizing and going through new things. I personally think it adds to the appeal though a little bit. Another reviewer says it's like a treasure hunt, and I absolutely agree! If you've made it this far in my review, it probably already goes without saying that this is one of my favorite little shops in Waldport, I'm so grateful it's here, and I am always looking forward to my next visit!
