Laid back old school bar in Cypress/Jersey Village. No drama, great customer service, reasonable prices. I like that the owner goes out of his way to say hello and introduce himself. Great bartenders too. Pool, jukebox and darts. Great place to catch the Astros game in a chill environment. read more

The ambience of this place is fantastic! It's not a dingy bar like you'd see in the movies but it isn't a modern club style bar. Very spacious interior with plenty of specials days and event throughout the week. Drinks are phenomenal and both times I've visited I've had Daria as my bar tender and she goes above and beyond for the people in the bar. Keep doing what y'all are doing. read more

This bar actually has a really nice layout. The bar is somewhat small but there is a ton of room through out. They have a dance floor, a stage, stripper pole, pool tables, darts, electronic games, easy to see TV's, music, and an outdoor section. Interesting that the place is rarely crowded, im guessing its the location. There can be some difficulty with mingling because people are usually in their own groups and the staff is usually busy. Its a good place to go if you want to avoid the crowds. read more

At first everything seemed ok, bartender was somewhat friendly and attentive. There were some people there that appeared to be on some sort of hard drugs, they started harassing a young couple that were just there minding their business. A fight almost broke out, at which time we left, but before we did I noticed during the arguing the bartender telling the couple to leave instead of the drugged out bullies, who I assume are regulars. This place was never a five star establishment, but it has gone downhill bad since we were in there last. And last, but not least my husband informed me that there was no toilet in the men's room, only a hole in the floor where it used to be, and a urinal. read more

I've been in this bar for probably better that 20 years. My wife and I like to play pool. We accidentally stopped in here about a year ago for some reason. Maybe 290 was closed and we needed to find refuge. I have always liked the layout of this bar. When I saw Deborah behind the bar I said to myself, "Something good must be happening here." Looking behind me from the bar I noticed the pool tables had new cloth. This was a good thing. I looked at Deborah and she smiled. She is a really good pool player and I have known her since about 2008. I know the ownership of the bar changed. They have a big job to get this place back to tip top shape. Only major problem I have is it is a smoking bar. I do respect the right of the bar owner to pick their clients. read more

While visiting Houston, skip the Menil Collection head straight to Bootlegger's for all your cultural needs. I don't think we got 20 bucks' worth of clouded judgement, though. For that much money, three people should walk out of a place of this caliber with wobbly knees. read more

I'm a bit baffled by Bootleggers still. The drink specials are incredible, but we were here when there should've been something resembling a small crowd but only found four dudes who were so drunk they didn't sound like they were speaking English. Apparently there had been a hair feathering party there earlier in the evening, which would explain the 6-7 feathers hanging from our extremely slow bartendress's hair. If I ever ended up in that part of Houston on a Free Big Buck Hunter night, you can bet your ass I'd be there and I'd get drunk enough to pretend I knew how to use that completely random stripper pole in the middle of the room. Otherwise, it's kind of a weird place. Also, you can smoke inside? As a resident of a city that's had a smoking ban for a few years now, that's so weird, foreign, and a bit unpleasant to me. read more

Inexpensive, around the corner from my buddy's house, comfy chairs, good cold AC, and a jukebox with some pretty righteous tunes. Seems like they have a kitchen but I don't think they do food anymore other than maybe a steak night on Wednesdays. Bartenders are nice and attentive, it's been ages since someone brought a beer to me when not seated at the bar. That level of courtesy isn't lost on me, very much appreciated, and tipped accordingly. As a non smoker I'm not a fan of the stale smokey air but enjoy your personal liberties while you can, I guess this is due to the fact it's in JV and not Houston who knows. Anyway fine neighborhood bar, patrons are middle age golfer type guys with their motorcycles out front, but they're friendly enough too. Solid 4 stars. read more

Good place to play poker on Monday nights!

This is the most interesting little dive/sports bar ever. Bootlegger's looks like it was a former strip club complete with DJ booth and stripper poles across the street from an old folk's home and directly next to a church. Aside from the strange location, this place was a real diamond in the rough. Bootlegger's has tons of TV, an internet jukebox and a couple of pool tables. When I stopped in here on a Sunday night they had a totally descent special, domestic buckets for $12. Anytime I'm in this neck of the woods, I will definitely stop in for a drink or two! read more

I tried to like this place. I really did. I went there several times and the regular bartenders are good. But I had some friends come in from out of town and wanted to show them what was likely to become my local watering hole, when out of the blue the bartender rejected all of our ID's. There wasn't anyone there to maybe consider the fact that there were 4 people in the bar at the time and we'd have doubled there business or the fact that we had been in there the night before and they served us just fine. Not to mention all of that, the woman at the bar was rude about doing this. Bottomline, beer is expensive, they don't have food, their specials are crap, their DJ's are even worse, and there is never anyone there. Further problems, there is always at least one bartender who gives you the death stare everytime you order a drink, the pool tables are badly unlevel, and usually the pool tables are missing cue balls. read more

Me and my friends went Sunday during Labor day weekend, it was empty except for 4 people there who are obviously regulars. The drinks were horrible they tasted like water and rubbing alcohol, but the service was the WORST!! The bartender came over to the back of the room where the pool tables on behalf of the owner to id me, which I get can't have some girl who looks like she's 18 not get carded. I hand her my id and without even looking at it she says it's not me. Now I know what you're thinking: "you just said you look 18" Yes I do, which means I look exactly the same as I did when I was 18 and took my picture for my driver's license. She kept saying that it wasn't me and shaking her head so i hand her my state id, same thing she didn't even look at it. I got the impression that she just didn't want us there because I wasn't the only one she did this to. Never go here unless you are already a regular, you'll be treated like shit. And the drinks aren't even good. read more

I honestly haven't had a terrible time there. The bartenders are wonderful. The prices are good. I just don't understand no matter what day it is even on a friday or saturday there is no one there! They have so much room and everything available. I just think they need to have more themed nights like karaoke or poker or pool or something just to bring in more people!
