I probably only stopped by once to stop by a restaurant previously; however, this past weekend, I found myself stopping by there to visit Sole Sports. I recently learned that I needed stability running shoes to complement my orthotics. When I entered Sole Sports, I met Jess right away who fully understood exactly what I needed. She measured my feet and asked me a bunch of questions. Then, she brought out various pairs of shoes and walked me through trying them on with my orthotics. I learned that I should be considering a shoe size a half-size larger than what I thought I needed. That certainly made a huge difference! I got some good ideas of what I wanted to do moving forward, and while the prices seemed quite a bit more than what they are online (similar to any physical store), they offered me a discount since I was referred to Sole Sports by a doctor. Sole Sports is a locally owned, specialty running and walking store based in Phoenix. They strive to be an alternative to big box stores and online shopping. In addition to offering a wide variety of running and walking gear, they host weekly training runs, support local running clubs & youth programs, sponsor local races and donate a lot of money back into our local community. I did get sized and the lady that was helping me was definitely gigglingly and fun. She brought out some trainers she thought that might work for me. I did end up buying a pair of trainers. The service was ok but not what I thought I would get in a running specialty store. I got spoiled from visiting another running store in Florida I guess. Unfortunately, my experience with a pair I purchased from Cowtown Boots in Tempe, Arizona, in February of twenty twenty-four has been nothing short of disappointing. I was on a business trip to Arizona and decided to pick up a nice pair of boots while I was there. I had been wearing Ariats at the time, but I wanted something different and knew Cowtown made their own brand of boots. While I hadn't necessarily heard great things about them, I was familiar with the name and figured they'd be a good choice. Nine months later, I'm regretting that decision. The soles now have multiple holes, and the heel flaps are coming off. For context, I live on twenty acres in Montana, but I don't do heavy ranch work--these boots are worn for everyday use. Typically, I get about two of solid wear out of a pair before needing repairs. Seeing these fall apart after less than a year of light use is shocking. I reached out to the store where I purchased them, and they referred me to corporate. When I called corporate, I was essentially told there's nothing they can do--no warranty, no acknowledgment of the premature wear, and no offer to make it right. They did offer to re-sole them, but only if I paid out of pocket. I understand no one can guarantee how long a product will last, but to hear "that's just the way it is" after explaining my long history with boots and reasonable expectations was frustrating. It's clear Cowtown Boots isn't standing by its products or its customers. I'm writing this not to vent, but to call attention to what seems like a drop in quality and customer care. For a company with such a strong reputation in the Western wear community, I expected much better. I hope they take this feedback seriously and reconsider how they handle these situations. Until then, I can't recommend these boots--or the company--to anyone who expects reliability and customer support to match the price tag.
