    Murals everywhere

Such a cool place right off the AT north of Pond Mountain. There are tending sites, a bunk house and mini cabins available. This hostel caters to AT Thru-hikers. Laundry $5, showers $5 (which are outside by really cool with murals and a bucket shower head). The bunks in the bunkhouse have a curtain for privacy. Bathrooms are available in little outhouses with plumbing. Very chill hippy vibe with relaxed owners. A perfect place to get clean and get out of the rain.

My wife, daughter and I stayed in one of their little cabins. It had a fridge, coffee pot, heater and AC. They do provide a continental breakfast each morning. They have shuttles rides to town daily. Pizza, breakfast sandwiches, soda and other snacks that are available to purchase. They have very nice tent sites available. There is a bunkhouse that looks really nice. Kayaks are available to rent. There is a nearby swimming area. The showers and restrooms are really nice. The employees were friendly and they do provide a military discount which is much appreciated.

God bless you and I hope the sun stays shining for you.

We prefer the river sites personally for the views & fishing. The campground owners are fantastic people who've become friends. They live on site and take great pride in the property. The property is always impeccable. They are always working. Such a gorgeous place!! The pond is in the center of the property - yes you can fish (catch & release). Areas setup with hammocks, corn hole, seating, etc. The new playground has been a big hit! Oh, and there's also a dog park area. The bathhouses are super clean and have air conditioning. The laundry room is brand new with great units and also A/C. They incorporated additional activities this year over at the pavilion which our family has loved! Bingo, tie-dye t-shirts, food trucks, live music, and more! Our grandson loves to join us. Lots of kids and a great area for them to all play. Tubing the river is always a fun treat! You can bring your own tubes or rent from the campground. The camp store has expanded and features a great mix of items - t-shirts, hats, hoodies, koozies, and more. As well as local jams, rubs, and other treats. They're in the process of building a new office/camp store so we're excited to see this complete. We have a 40' fifth wheel. No problems every getting in. They accommodate all size rigs. All sites have a concrete pad, fire pit and very nice large picnic table. Sites are spacious and do not feel cramped like we've experienced at other campgrounds. Wi-Fi is generally pretty good. We've been able to work remote on some of our trips. We even had phone service our last trip (AT&T)! Lots to do in the area! Hiking, Linville Winery (yum!), Linville Caverns, Grandfather Mtn and so many other great places. The office staff can certainly provide plenty of recommendations, too. There are 2 grocery stores in town about 15min away. There's also a local dollar store about 5min away. We cannot say enough good things about MRFC. We've met some great campers there who we now call friends. We truly love this place and already have bookings for next year!

I was greeted by a couple sitting in the rocking chairs on the porch. I think the winding road up the mountain and the driveway helped me realize how secluded this place is. There are only nine sites that are spaced far enough apart that you think you're the only person here! Each site is different than the others. The fire pits are amazing. You have to check them out for yourself! There are creeks everywhere. You can hear the water from every site (that's if you're not in a site next to one. Then you can see them also). There was thought put in to making each site spectacular. There are picnic tables, pads for tents, trees and posts for hammocks and awesome fire pits. There are hiking trails that lead up the mountain and into the Cherokee National Forest and around the property. You need to walk them to experience the beauty and the spectacular views! The bath house is like a large bathroom that feels like home! They even have blow dryers here to use! There are two sinks for dishes along with scrubbies and dish soap! The bath house or the camp store both have electrical outlets if you need to recharge batteries for your lights. Don't charge your phone! There's no need for that as a distraction! I will be back!

But THIS one, this one is different from most. There are only a handful of campsites, but the experience is what I imagine would be how campgrounds "should" be before commercial ones started popping up, and laying campsites on top on one another to maximize profit. Yes the commercial ones also brought along nice amenities such as clean bathhouses and electrical connections to keep up with what folks in general expect these days... and that's when locally owned campgrounds had to follow suit or risk going out of business. Here... it goes back to how it was. No electrical connections. Privacy. Views. Isolation. A connection with true nature without having to hike miles and miles with 40+ lbs of gear. The camp store is based on a honor system, you get what you need 24/7. If nobody is there just jot down what you grabbed and it will be billed to you. It is packed with lots of custom made locally goodies, along with standard necessities (first aid, bug repellent, hygiene stuff, snacks, etc) and are priced too low!!! The bathhouse. The bathhouse. Oh man, talk about putting thought into it. Feels just like my own mountain getaway... in my imagination of course because I don't really have a mountain getaway. Well I do now, except I don't really own it. That doesn't stop me from wishing I had own it though. Anyway, this review is already way too long. I guess that's what a great camping trip can do to you. It brings out the peacefulness in you, and make you so content that you want to write a novel about it. I'm not recommending this place to all. I'm just recommending it to those that truly enjoy camping... and nature with only the things we need and absolutely nothing that we don't. Peace!

Campground is new, clean, spacious and provides spectacular long range views and wide open night sky viewing. After enjoying the sunsets we sat by the fire evenings (firewood provided) and saw a few shooting stars. Great hiking close by--loved the Laurel Falls hike. At the suggestion of Hellbenders outfitters went kayaking on Wilbur lake which topped the list of best things we did all weekend. Simply spectacular. We planned to eat in so cannot speak to local restaurant scene other than we did stop for a snack at Big Dan's Bbq in Elizabethtown and it was very good. Would have liked to try the brewery next door but it didn't open until later. We didn't even get a chance to check out Watuga Lake other than drive around a bit and it looks beautiful. We are already planning our next trip and will definitely stay at Lake Haven campground again.

Nice breezes in afternoon and evening. The owners provided valuable information on local events and activities. We went to Walmart for our 3-day non-resident fishing licenses as we're from Minnesota. This campground is pet-friendly, too. Wish we'd brought our dogs. Five-star location and amenities.

We wanted to spend time hiking in Grayson Highlands & were late to the game on Labor Day weekend & all the camping was booked. After some digging we found this place & it was about 25 mins from the park & an easy drive. If you have ATT there is no service. We lost it about 30 mins before arrival. Our GPS still worked & it was nice to unplug but just a heads up. The important highlights: -Bathrooms are clean & well maintained. -Showers are hot & we never had to wait. -Must pay in cash -Dog friendly. My dog could be offleash & run around. No major roads around & very laidback. -The sights are right by the water so you can hear the creek & the views are nice -each site has a picnic table & firepit. The campsites are pretty close which was hard when 3 carloads with about 15 people showed up & made camp at the site next door. They weren't particularly cognizant of their noise levels & we couldn't sleep until around 11 when I finally went out to ask them to please keep it down. They only stayed one night & that's just par for the course sometimes with camping. The next night was much quieter & we slept great. All in all a great campground. An hourish from Boone & Blowing Rock. Bring supplies in as there aren't any major grocery stores around. Would stay there again if we were in the area.
