Saw Dr Meka today for something stuck in our puppies nose that started acutely on a walk. Was totally dismissed and told it was likely dirt or allergies and that she didn't need further care after only listening to her heart. Walked out of the room less than 2 minutes later and she began to sneeze again asked if the doctor would want to see it and was told he already left for lunch. Paid $40 for the visit took her immediately to another vet who rhinoscoped her and found a foxtail. Could not have worse things to say about this vet read more

Edited: in working with Aldwin the office manager and providing feedback I have seen significant improvement in listening and providing improved customer service. I have been back in for diagnostic tests on my dog and there was a big improvement. Thank you for the appreciation in seeing me as a valued client and for wanting improvement to the practice. When I first starting going here, in 2021, the Vet was Larry and he was so nice, however the clinic changed hands a few years later. Nothing against the new Vet, but the staff is still the old guard and they stopped sending out email reminders for vaccines entirely. I called recently to see if my pup was due for any vaccines, because it felt like it was coming up and the woman on the phone made me feel like I was overdue for everything (upon checking my own records I found that not to be the case!) She admitted that they stopped sending email reminders, which I don't like at all. She also said that I should have received a reminder from them last in 2024 for one vaccine, putting the blame on me. After combing through my emails, I discovered the last time I received an email from them was an invoice in 2024 from a visit where my dog received a vaccine, while being treated for an ear infection - but thanks to zero email reminders from this Vet about the vaccine! The only vaccine reminders I ever received were from my Boarding facility that we use some times, letting us know they are coming up! I think it's a ridiculous practice to not notify people of regular vaccines for your pets, so you stay on track. I have since changed vets. read more

The profile on their website say its locally, however, the owner lives in North Carolina and bought out this location, and still lives in North Carolina. Multiple doctors came in and out and the doctors that have treated my dog over the past few months have left with new doctors randomly appearing - meaning my dog does not get the continuity of care I would like from a vet office. Doctors coming in and out include - Dr. Godara, Dr. Kumar, and now there is Dr. Yogi and Dr. Bolloju (not on their website). Visited and the experience is cold. read more

Had our first appointment at Borchard Vet here in NP and we were SO happy with the entire experience! We did try Borchard Vet (one of the closest vets to our home) when we first moved to NP 15 years ago but the dr at the time just wasn't a fit for us. We have been with our current vet for 10+ years now but personality differences, poor bedside manner and lack of understanding is just too much for us to overlook anymore. We started looking for a new veterinary clinic over a year ago. Finally, a very trusted friend and fellow animal lover recommended BVC and the sweet vet they have on staff there. Last month we adopted, 3 mo old twin Miniature Golden Retrievers and knew it was the perfect time to make the switch. I called their office and spoke to Pam (the front desk manager who has been there, for almost 20 years). She was incredibly sweet and very helpful on the phone. She also seemed just as excited as we were about our new babies! I made a new puppy appointment with the main goal being to meet and get to know their new vet, Dr. Yogesh Meka, DVM, or "Dr. Yogi" as everyone calls him. Pam was able to set up our appt for Friday of the same week. Our appointment went SO well from beginning to end. TBH, we almost felt spoiled by our experience. Pam greeted us and took copies of all our paperwork then we were taken right into an exam room. We met Dr. Yogi and he immediately made us feel welcome and at ease. Dr Yogi is kind, patient, COMPASSIONATE but most importantly incredibly smart and knowledgeable in the newest cutting edge veterinary medicine. He took his time with us never making us feel rushed or dismissed by all our questions. He's a great human and a true lover of all animals. Dr Yogi told us the twins look amazing; they are v healthy and right on track for growth. Both girls were both so comfortable in the exam room that each of them feel asleep after their vaccinations. We would highly recommend Borchard Vet for your fur babies. *The only negative part of our experience was finding out that we won't be able to transfer all our animals over to BVC as they only treat dogs and cats. read more

I was visiting friends in Camarillo, California when my little dog got out of bed and fell to his side. I rushed him to Borchard veterinary clinic. The ultrasound showed a large tumor on his spleen and I had to let him go. The team at the clinic, let me hold him for a while longer. I held Papi while The doctor gently injected him. When I handed him to the doctor he held him like he was a newborn baby. I had called a vet in Camarillo that could not take me and they gave me two references, but I decided to call Borchard for no particular reason. God guided me to the right people to help me let my little buddy go. They did not gouge my wallet in my time of pain. two weeks later, I received a sympathy card with individual letters from each of the team members. read more

Dr. Lowe has retired, (well earned, and long overdue) and fortunately Pam has stayed on. Unfortunately, since the new owner/vet took over, we've experienced LONG wait times, double to triple the costs, and seemingly excessive "add ons." I know Dr. Lowe (& Lorette) were exceptional people but I didn't know just how wonderful they were until we had to find a new vet. Love this vet clinic! I've been here several times and I always get super service from everyone here. Dr. Lowe is a sweet man who really cares for animals and humans alike. My 1 1/2 year old dog has been coming here since she was a baby and she loves coming too, doesn't even seem to mind the shots...(?!) They always have sound advice and have a very, very long history here serving the community. I recently came in with my dog thinking she had a horrible infection between her toes. 5 1/2 hours after making my appointment, I arrived only to find she had miraculously healed herself and though I searched for the infection, it was gone. They sorta laughed it off, and sent me away without a fee. I brought them a gift later that day to show my appreciation (and hopefully to prove maybe I'm not crazy). Another occasion, I came to pick up my dog from the groomer 2 doors down and my dog was so happy to see me, she scratched a lovely river down my forearm and left me rather bloody. As I was walking back to my truck, I popped my head into Dr. Lowe's office to ask for a tissue for my arm. Well, they invited me in and brought me to the back sink, washed it up, treated my cut with antibiotic cream and bandaged it. Meanwhile, the other girls in the office cared for my dog and fed her treats while she waited. We came to Borchard Vet to see Dr Godara after a horrible experience with our regular vet -Midtown Vet. The two experiences could not have been more different. Dr. Godara was extremely caring and nurturing with our cat. He went above and beyond. He took the time to listen to our concerns and offered a lot of information during the exam. His office staff was also kind and caring. This is a wonderful family vet practice. I am so happy I was referred to them because my last several vet experiences (Midtown, Conejo valley Vet, and Western) had soured me to Vets in general. I thought... gone are the days of the caring family vet who is actually nurturing and cares about their clients and animals more than money! My last few experiences at previously mentioned vets were that they barely take the time with you and your pet, they are NOT nurturing, they mis- diagnose and then take advantage of your vulnerability and love for your pet by price gouging you! Dr Godara is nothing like those vets. He is everything a family vet should be. He works late hours -saw us at 5pm on a Friday and said he would call me with my cat's test results the next day, on a Saturday. He had a wonderful bedside manner with our family and our pet. I had a emergency on Sunday for little man my dog had massive stomach pains and issues but I found this vet which is a plus since most vets are closed on the weekends or short staff, Borchard Vet was my best route, I was very fortunate to be help by a friendly and loving and supportive staff to my dog is feeling 10x better now, I honestly recommend anyone to come visit here!! read more

I would like to thank BVC and their staff for the kindness they showed my family today. My service dog was in heart failure for 6 months and was barely hanging on with 3 prescriptions. He was in a lot of pain and our Doctor was just honest, kind and very gentle with our boy. He let us know it was time and we had known that was coming. We felt great about Dr. Lowe's care, even though our oldest dog Carly doesn't like vets (or people in general) and he was great with her. Dr Godara was our first real experience here after Dr Lowe retired. Dr Godara did a wonderful job with Daisy our younger dog. He did tests on her eyes to figure out her eye problems and gave us good treatment for them. Daisy even tolerated him working on her eyes. I'll be bringing Carly in for sure. Yay! This business was sold a few months ago and the new vets are unprofessional and did not solve my dog's ear problem. I went twice for my labs ear issues. The first time the young female vet did not treat both ears and so I had to come back in 5 days to get the second ear treated. (I paid $294 first visit). The second visit was with a male vet and the entire conversation with him felt like I was being accused of lying, that I had allowed my dog to swim...very bizarre and extremely uncomfortable. I had to pay for a second ear treatment although he waived the exam fee. (I paid approx $70). Regardless, BOTH EARS ARE STILL SLIGHTLY INFECTED TWO WEEKS AFTER GETTING ear treatments that usually solve the issue completely for at least 2-3 months. The cytopoint injection has helped a little but not as much as it usually does so I am unclear what exactly is wrong with their version of the injection? I will return to my prior vet who is competent but can be grumpy which is why I was trying a new vet. read more

Borchard Vet is under new ownership and is no longer the family run clinic that served our pet family for over 20 years! We took our dog to the clinic thinking we would get the same service as we had grown accustomed to...boy were we wrong!!! If you sort on the newest reviews that reflect the new ownership you will see many are one star! The vet diagnosed her with kennel cough and charged us over $1700 for various test including blood tests, x-rays (with an outside radiologist consultation), a throat culture, and medication. Some of these tests run we did not even approve of when they showed us the "treatment plan" and charged us anyway. They did refund the unapproved tests and some of the medication after much arguing...almost calling us liars even though the disapproval was in writing! The result of the throat culture came in to the office indicating positive for an infection the antibiotics they gave us didn't work on...they held on to the results for three days and then finally sent it to us after we called looking for it. Our dog was on the wrong meds and getting worse and they just didn't bother to let us know!!! After this debacle we found a new vet and are very happy....please be sure you watch your wallet if you go to Borchard Vet! read more

Didn't understand the $10 extra cost for medical waste. Why would a vaccination require a cost to throw away a syringe?

We took our dog to here for the first time yesterday and they were great. Not only did they get us an appointment quickly but they were so nice and accommodating. We usually dread taking our dog to the vet and have been wanting to find a new vet for a while and so glad we tried a Borchard vet clinic. Dr Lowe was so nice and just reminded me of an old school vet that is there for the best interest of your pet We have found our new vet! read more

I am disappointed with the new change. I loved and enjoyed Dr Low and completely understand that it was time to retire. The transition has been difficult with no formal letters of the departure of Dr Low leaving nor empathy for clients/patients. I completely understand that this is stressful to staff members trying to deal with "old" clients that have been going to this family veterinarian. Everything is different to which I'm used to. I apologize for my frustrations with the change. I really wish that they would have sent out a letter of the new changes and introducing the new doctors and protocols. I'm very disappointed with the whole process. I will not be going back to this place, I'm sure this clinic will be just fine. The way this was handled was a not in the best interest of the Clint's/patients. It was a complete blindsided experience. A simple letter going out to those explaining that Dr Low that had opened the business in 1971 and had been in practice for over 35 years at that establishment would have been a softer blow. read more

So this may be a little lengthy so I apologize in advance however here we go. We were with Borchard Vet for decades with Dr.Lowe, his wife and Pam who runs the business as far as we can tell. After Dr. Lowe retired we had a visit or two there and it was awful because the new ownership wanted to turn it into a cash cow and quoted us a ridiculous amount to neuter a rescue we had just taken in. There was no negotiation and Pam said her hands were tied so on principle we moved on to Dr. Slaton in Westlake who is wonderful. We literally cried when we said goodbye to Pam because the animals mean the world to her and Pam has been considered a friend over the years. Pam was at our side when we put down two of our dogs two years ago and she held us up. Fast forward to this past Sunday. Our Hudson who is 9 months old was running with our Golden Retriever Tater in our expansive rear yard at Mach 1 because well that's what they do. We have a trail with a split in the pole fencing for humans to pass thru and Hudson mis-judged his "juke" move to go from the trail to the yard and slammed into the fence and knocked himself out. We watched it happen from the patio and we still have PTSD from it today. After getting him awake (he was in shock) we realized he couldn't walk and looked mortified. I googled emergency hospitals and was searching for the one in Ventura because the one on Moorpark Road will take your home title during an emergency and Borchard Emergency Vet popped up and said they were open. Putting principles over personalities we carried Hudson to the car and went straight over as his health was more important to us than our previous experience. Well. It's all different again and back to the Dr. Lowe and his wife days. We carried Hudson in and were greeted with empathy by Sharon, who has 9 years emergency vet experience (she offered that during treatment assuring us Hudson would be ok) and Dr. Godara (Sharon called him Dr. G) and they went right to work on Hudson. Hudson isn't small but not huge he weighs 58 lbs and they gently got him up on the table and Dr. started manipulating his hip and left rear leg as that's where the collision occurred. Dr. Said due to his youth he probably didn't break anything because all of Hudson's joints and tendons aren't fully developed and offered us the choice to take X-rays or not. Mind you Hudson still wasn't walking. We said absolutely do what you need to do. They took 6 X-rays and meticulously read them to us while simultaneously sending them to an offsite radiologist. Hudson damaged his left hip muscle and slightly damaged his left knee tendon. No breaks no rips. By this time they put Hudson on the floor and with the sweetest voice Dr. G coached Hudson to take a few steps and he started limping around the office a bit. We were given pain meds, anti-inflammatory meds and told to rest him for 7 days and keep him down. Well this is three days later and Hudson is ready to roar and walking perfectly normal, we have stopped the pain meds and he is playing with his brother like nothing ever happened. The final piece of that day was for all they did for over 2 hours, the X-rays, meds and radiologist assistance I was terrified for the bill but grateful Hudson would recover. The bill was $573.26 all in and we received a follow up call at 8:00 AM Monday morning to see how Hudson was doing. Folks Borchard vet, the wonderful Dr. Henser and now Dr. G have righted the ship to keep the Lowe families legacy alive, I'm sure Pam is over the moon because the transition was painful for her but it looks like smooth sailing ahead. I'm a tough critic however they have completely turned our family back to them and we are so grateful because honestly we miss them terribly. If you were one of us you weren't wrong to leave however give them another chance, we did by accident and during an emergency and it's turned out to be a blessing. read more

I took my dog in because he was shaking his head and he had some drainage from his ear. After waiting an hour, we were brought back. The doc looked in his ear, took a culture and said he had an ear infection. Pam came in with a quote for $800 and said they would have to keep my dog for a while. She could give me no pick up time and said "I have no idea how long it will take. We're still finishing the dogs from yesterday!" It was 12:00 and she told me they could have him there till 7pm when they leave. I declined to leave my dog there and went to Midtown Vet where the doc said that there wasn't an infection but that my dog had allergies. He prescribed some allergy medicine and that was it. My dog is doing great on the allergy meds. I'm so glad I trusted my gut. read more

I brought in my fur baby today she has been having some issues that I didn't know what was going on Dr. Henser took her time explaining things to me and she even found that my baby has a heart murmur which I never knew she had. We ran some test and now looking forward to being able to proceed to surgery. The staff was amazing from the receptionist Pam she was such a sweetheart to the tech Sharon she was so sweet and patient with my baby and explained everything to me, I was even able to meet their new manager Blanca she was very sweet and kind and she even took the time to play with my baby. First, I had no idea that there was a change of hands and that Dr. Lowe retired. I am very open minded for a new doctor and change, but the transition was not handled well because I did not receive a letter or when the appointment was made nothing was said. I had to ask if Dr. Lowe finally retired while I was there. The new doctor was fine, but seems like there were no personable skills with us or our dog. Second, when I arrived to pick up my dog I was forgot about twice. I was supposed to see the doctor for a quick consult and sat in the room for about 10 minutes before I heard someone say is there someone in there, and got the doctor because I was waiting for him. Then once the doctor left, I told him I need my dog before I leave. He walked out and I waited another 10-15 minutes before I got up and asked if I they were bringing me my dog. It just seemed like there was no communication skills and things were not getting relayed between the techs and the doctor. Lastly I just think the prices were outrageous and how much medicine and which tests were needed. I understand that there are necessary steps and procedures, but I have never paid $900 for allergies, yeast and bacteria infection, and eye drops. I've never spent over $500 for similar medicines and procedures. This was also after I signed a paper saying it would be at most around $850, but probably not that much because of the medications. I also just noticed that the website does not seem to be updated. Still have Dr. Lowe all over the website. Unfortunately we will not be back. The transition and new doctor does not seem to be working. read more

Now that Dr. Lowe left the practice the clinic has turned into a high priced, money grubbing veterinary factory! They have done nothing to improve the clinic, just dramatically raised the prices. For example, 30 Apoquel tabs went from $85 to $125. Immunization prices were jacked up and then a "$10 Medical Waste fee" is added for each syringe. For 15 days of generic antibiotics that cost under $.50 per tablet are now almost $4 per tablet. I had to repeatedly contact the doctor (beyond the date promised) to get results of a simple urinalysis test! I could go on and on. My recommendation is to NOT patronize Borchard Veterinary clinic with Dr. Bharat Kuhmar and Dr. Susie Hanser - nice people but watch your wallet! read more

I agree with many of the one-star reviews, which state that Dr. Lowe retired and that the clinic now has new doctors that upcharge, want to do what I believe are unnecessary tests, and give what I believe are unnecessary medications (which are expensive for GENERIC versions). I did not even trust the doctor's diagnosis...after what looked to be a quick and poor check of my dogs problem. I won't go into the long hour and a half wait to be seen. I am now looking for a new veterinarian, one much like Dr. Lowe, who cared about the animals and their owners to the point that he did not upcharge or gouge the owners. Getting the bill up as high as possible was not Dr. Lowe's job. Beware of "we will make up a plan" by the new doctor. I found this to mean a "payment plan" for him and his business. read more

I came here last week. I was visiting my mom out here with my 3 Fur babies and they got into it a small fight with my moms dog. I have to say even though I was going through a stressful time since the moment I called and spoke with pam, she was so kind and humble calmed me down and scheduled me an appointment with in 15 minutes. I got to my appointment and the staff was soo wonderful humble kind and sooo helpful I was scared to move my fur baby from the car since she was painful Blanca (Manager) came out so gentle and picked my baby up and brought her inside. As soon as she came in the Dr. G was already at the door waiting for Blanca with my pup. I had the assistant Ashley put in the room and got what happen then Anali tech came in with the doctor to go over what was needed. Which was unfortunately surgery, I will be honest for being and emergency and for everything that was done it was less then $700.00 I was soo happy with the service and how kind everyone was. I even got a call the next day to see hoe my baby was doing. I definitely recommend this place and had my mom change vets thank you guys soo much. read more
