Nicole G visited our site to quote for a pool. She arrived for an outdoor quote in the February freezing cold dressed for cocktails aside a fox hunt. I mention this as one of many clues Nicole broadcasted that told me this company is not interested in clients who do not have extremely large budgets, and want to throw money at Borsello to take the reigns and do whatever they fancy creatively. If this is their client list, good for them. Just explain you don't need my paltry $100k and don't waste my time. If this is not their message, they need to retrain their rep! Nicole began by asking what our dreams are. I told her I could dream all day but we just need a simple pool because only 1% of the population has dreams money. She didn't listen to my input and went on with asking if we wanted this or that, trying, I guess, to sell ideas we would give up college and retirement funds to pay for? She verbally quoted about $200k for a very basic modest sized gunite pool. What percent of one's home value would anyone want to invest in a pool, which can potentially devalue a property? Somehow people with homes half the value of ours (or less) are affording pool builds, but in my neighborhood I am quoted $200k. For this, she said sod would be required and several other add-ons that we absolutely don't want or need. She didn't explain this was part of her $200k package, I had to probe with questions. The more questions I had the more unfriendly she became and I realized she had pegged me as someone from whom she wasn't going to get $200k. Yes, we told you we weren't willing to go over $100k at the beginning. Angie's List connected me with a "pool builder" and should have clearly stated my budget. Just a few years ago a pool was $60k!!!! The email quote later stated a pool would be $80k-$90k followed by a list of options we didn't want. It was very different from her verbal quote and based on Nicole's vibe I sensed hidden costs and add-ons would be forced in there if I ever tried to trust them. I also felt poor-shamed for being unwilling (or God help me, unable) to spend $200k on a stupid pool! She threw in that her home pool was the "old kind" meaning concrete or vinyl. Gee Nicole, where is your $200k gunite pool? Oughtn't you to be able to afford one since you do that for a living? Nicole also argued me on the species of arborvitae we had (that our trusted tree experts had installed), and generally acted superior and aloof which is never a way to win friends and influence people. Of course, as expected, when Nicole sent the quote and asked for a survey, we replied and never heard from her again. Class act! We were talking potentially spending $100k with these people and that wasn't good enough! I'm sorry but if I'd been at a car dealership or pretty much anywhere else contemplating that kind of luxury purchase I'd get decent non-uppity customer service. Borsello was ridiculously entitled! Interestingly as I go through other Yelp and Google reviews for this company, the job budgets mentioned are 1/10th of mine, and the homes shown in review photos are extremely modest. I guess their representative just took exception with me for some reason and got snobby. I've never met a successful business person who wasn't humble, polite and professional toward every client or potential client. ****EDIT**** After Borsello's rep ghosted us, it was a bit odd to send us a Christmas card with $500 coupon on a "$200k" job. ****EDIT**** I do my best in life to not be a pretentious or narcissistic person. I recently contacted Borsello Landscaping here in Lewes, DE. Mike was very responsive in coming out to my home to observe what we were looking for. We interacted for approximately 10 minutes. Later that evening, he sent me docu-sign agreement and asked for a deposit of $1500 with absolutely no evidence of what work would be done. I did tell Mike that I am completely open to their ideas and I do understand that depending on what one would like is subject to cost. I never expected to recieve an email from Mike asking me to sign a contract with absolutely no information on the base work that would be done and to provide a deposit of $1500 that would be applied to the work done later. The work crew was excellent. The "horticulturist ". Was not reliable: my pachysandra was dying, a fungus. He said it only needed a bit of fertilizer. We trusted his assessment and paid the bill in full .No treatment was done and the fungus continued to spread. I relayed the problem to borsello. No response!!!! My husband treated the fungus. I hired Borsello Landscaping to put some privacy plantings in the yard at our new home. I was very excited and anticipated a great experience. I was so disappointed for the following reasons: they did not tell me, but arranged to have a porta-potty delivered to our driveway and there it remained for about a week. I had to call the company to confirm it came from them. They worked for a couple of days to plant 12 trees and some smaller plants. The designer they sent admitted to me that they messed up the plant color for the design AFTER it was all planted, and at that point I wasn't going to have them change it. It wasn't a horrible color, but still. They did the minimum. Now, a few weeks after they put the trees and mulch down, I have *weeds* growing in the mulch. I'm so disappointed and would NOT recommend using this company. Yes, they were expensive, but never mind the price, the service was poor. read more

Totally different experience than with the other review. I had a GREAT experience. Borsello was indeed pricey, but I have a gorgeous new patio, walkway, and a planter box that even if a tornado hits that box is going nowhere. It is large enough to plant a small tree! Because of weather they got started almost a month later than the projected time, but they cannot control rain! I was kept informed the entire time as to when they would finally get to my project. They were polite, kept the area clean at the end of each day, and got it done very quickly. With a 10 year warranty and seeing how detailed they were with the work I could not be happier! read more

We contacted Borsello's Landscaping after observing the beautiful work done at a nearby neighbor's home. Our front and side yards were badly in need of TLC and we also had highly individual needs. We were using repurposed mushroom growing bins raised for growing bins but they were sitting on concrete boxes and not attractive. We also had a number of native plants that we wanted to "save" and transplant to our new garden space and we wanted the process to be organic or using pollinator friendly products. To describe our yard renovation as a "challenge" was kind. We worked with a Borsello designer, Alan Rice and he was fantastic. He came up with creative ideas and he was willing to modify his design to help us create a pollinator friendly paradise. We also worked with the Delaware Nature Society Habitat unit and Alan was more than willing to incorporate their suggestion into our planning. Alan and other Borsello staff made every effort to work with adjacent neighbors to make sure that the plan worked for them as some trees and ground bordered on our neighbor's property. Once the work started, Ben and his crew of hardworking staff were friendly, courteous and exceptionally tidy. They often went beyond our expectations setting flagstones a new way, transplanting extra plants from our backyard to the side and finding swamp milkweed for a wet area (no extra charge). They cleaned up the work space each day before leaving, Ben built a beautiful retaining wall out of boulders and Dan built cypress bases for our plant boxes (very sturdy and attractive), a railing and poles to anchor plants. All of the staff have been responsive to our requests and followed through with the planned work. I rate the company as multi-talented and excellent all around. read more
