What a delight this was today. A perfect place to stop on a drizzly Saturday afternoon. We really enjoyed perusing all the things they offer, from comics to games to books and much much more! DISCLAIMER: nothing I say in this review is meant to come off as condescending or demeaning or belittling or anything like that. Coming in here was like a trip down memory lane. Comic books and general geekdom were my first love. SIDEBAR: I feel like I no longer have the street cred to proudly call myself a "geek" like I once did. All the "geeky" things I was into are now incredibly mainstream: fantasy (Game of Thrones, LotR), D&D (Stranger Things), and if you had told 11 y/o Andrew that not only would they make movies about Marvel comics, not only would they be good (I used watch the horrendous 1990 "Captain America" movie more than I'd like to admit...), but they would gross BILLIONS of dollars? I would've told you that you were not from the future, and that you should seek a mental health professional. Anyway, browsing in here really hit me in the feels. They have a massive selection of comics, that's kind of like the main corridor in here. Then they have a side room for "gaming" (think D&D, Magic: The Gathering, Warhammer 40k, *that* type of gaming...no video here) and another side room for sports cars. The folks working here are very knowledgeable about anything and everything vaguely related to assorted geekery. I came in here to buy my first comic in over a decade: a total reboot of the X-MEN! But they didn't have any in stock (it was one of the only comics they didn't have, must be popular), next time! Anyway, if this mountaineering hobby ever doesn't work out, I think I will go back to perusing comic book racks, spend some weekends painting Warhammer figurines, and maybe finally learn how to play "Magic: The Gathering". read more

Boscos is a fun store to look around in- you'll never know if you'll find something you can't pass up. This is for the location on Spenser. Quite a bit bigger than the diamond location. Today we bought a Catan dice container that you put the dice inside to roll the. And it has a little arm to contain the dice as they roll. Aka perfect for bringing on a plane or while playing at a brewery. It was $20. We also got a comic for $6 that was illustrated by a friend of ours and we got a die for $1. 20 sided and orange. They have tons of comics, anime movies, board and card games, dice, and small sections of items from different things like Star Wars, Pokémon, Harry Potter, etc. I'm all for buying local but some of their prices are way higher than what you can find online. Others were too far off either on point or a few bucks. read more

A legitimate comic book store. They have a very nice selection of comic books. Their tabletop war game section is awesome too. The staff was super helpful and knowledgeable when I asked about Warhammer 40K. They even offer different game nights. Prices are pretty fair in my opinion. read more

More spacious than expected going in, and pretty clean. Not lacking in merchandise, and even has a section dedicated for local creators. The staff are knowledgeable and welcoming. A good place for buying/perusing a wide array of geeky wares and sports cards. You may notice various thoughtful touches throughout the building; the children's books section has small furnishings for little ones to sit and browse, and there is a decent amount of space between racks/shelves that keeps the place from feeling like a warehouse despite having so much product. It is also the one place in town I have been able to locate king-sized Whatchamacallit bars. read more

This place is really great. The staff is very helpful and the selection is great. They have all the comics I was looking for and were willing and able to order items that they didn't have. I especially like that they have a section entitled, "start here" for the novice comic book enthusiast. I would classify myself as a novice so it was very nice they are thinking about me. Don't get overwhelmed by the inventory. Ask for help. The trade paperback section is a little weird to navigate, but I just asked an employee and they were able to quickly and efficiently find what I was looking for. The game selection is solid and there are lots of expansions available for some really cool games. read more

A longtime fixture in Anchorage, Bosco's is one of my favorite places to buy really cool novelty items or discounted deals for TV shows on DVD. The current location of the store is now across from the Franz Bakery Outlet (formerly the Sunrise Bakery) on the corner of Spenard and Fireweed. I envy the people that live next to that bakery. I would love to wake up to the smell of fresh-baked bread every morning.... Not to deviate from this review, the owner at the time chose a good spot away from the more congested and crime-riddled areas of Spenard down the street. The store is a lot more spacious and open compared to the old location down the road across from Momma O's Seafood. The employees here are always friendly and knowledgeable about what they sell and it shows by how much they enjoy working there. I scored some good deals by coming across a clearance table of complete season TV shows as low as $4.99 and a buy one, get one free deal if you plan to buy several. For those Yelpers who have kids, this is an excellent place to go to get them started on a hobby. Parents whose kids want to start a sports card collection should know that some Factory Sets (a complete card collection of a certain year), can be found for as low as $5.00. I saw unopened boxes of both baseball and hockey starting at this price. Comic Books, Board Games, Magic Trading Cards, Japanese Anime and Video Games for all consoles including some of the old-school ones like Sega Genesis or Nintendo can be found throughout the store. I mentioned earlier about some interesting novelty items I came across. Being a huge Game Of Thrones fan, (it's obvious just by looking at my profile pics), I found an old-school Lunch Box with the show's logo, two Coffee Mugs with the sigils of House Targaryen and House Stark, and a giant Beer Stein with the House Lannister sigil (which would make Tyrion Lannister proud....). Magic Card tournaments are also held frequently at this location in a large separate room at the back of the store. This is always a fun place to spend some spare time finding hidden treasures for your kids or the kid in you. read more

Bosco's has been around town in a few different locations and this latest one feels like they've finally got everything in the right place. It's a much cleaner-feeling facility than their previous Spenard location (just up the street, actually) and they carry the best selection of comic books, board games and general genre merchandise in town. I've followed Bosco's around three different spots (that I remember anyway...) in the Dimond Center. They even had a brief stint on Muldoon but this is really the store to visit if you're in need of a new lightsaber or the latest issue of Deadpool. I weigh my opinion on businesses based on how successfully I perceive them to be at whatever it is they're trying to accomplish. Well done here. With a large space to support community card/board games & events, they're definitely hitting all the right marks. This is one of those stores that's just fun to browse (if you're a big geek like me, anyway). If this one's their final evolution (Pokemon pun intended), it's a great location and I hope to see them successful for many more years. read more

Great place to nerd out. I read comics, but if I ever wanted to branch out this would be the place to be. A lot of different hobby stuff, from dungeon and dragons, to build your own dorkdom, to old super nintendo games. I come here for the graphic novels, of which there is a good selection. The staff are helpful, and always say hello. They look a little like a cross between Bill and Ted and Wayne's World, and are very pleasant to talk to when checking out. The bathroom is the funniest part of this place. The door looks like a dungeon, and feels like one upon locking yourself in. There is a naughty section in the back of the store, which has old penthouse magazines. I bought one for my boyfriend, the month and year he was born. Great gift. read more

Role playing game geeks- UNITE! Bosco's is THE place in town for people who enjoy RPG games of the old-fashioned variety (not electronic, that is.) They have a great selection of dice, roll-playing books (such as Rifts, D&D, etc), maps and whatnot. Of course there's comics, some costumes, collectible cards (Pokemon, Magic, etc), toys (fun stuff, good stocking stuffers too) and even some costumes. What's even cooler is there's a gathering room for community gaming rooms. Check the local free paper for dates and times for events, they have them often. read more

Every staff member is very friendly and helpful. When I visited they helped me out on finding the Marvel comic I was looking. I also got a couple of games as well. I love the fantastic selection of games and comics, definitely, and the people working there the day I went in seemed pretty friendly (and not incredibly weird about seeing a girl shopping alone, something that can be problematic with game and comic shops). Maybe it's the librarian in me, or just that the shop is trying to do too much with not enough space, but the place seemed a little disorganized and messy. It's hardly enough to keep me from coming back, but it does make the shopping experience a little less pleasant. read more

This store location is similar to the location at Dimond Mall but a tad smaller. There is a decent selection of board games, comics, game pieces, old console games, dvd's, anime, graphic novels, and other accessories. There is also a separate area where players can gather to play their card games, board games, etc. I find the products in this store to be a tad pricey.The store itself can be smelly at times and I think it is because of the carpeting. When the store is full it can make you feel a bit claustrophobic as there is not much wiggle room when there are too many people. Sometimes I feel the clerks at the register are trying to do to much at once so check out can be a bit annoying and slow. I still find myself visiting this place when wanting to buy a new board game but improvements can definitely be made. The people working here seem to enjoy what they do and are pretty courteous. read more

What a great comic, games, miniatures, and sports memorabilia store! The staff was friendly, helpful. My wife, children, and I, are all gamers, video, board, and role playing. We generally know what we're looking for when we go to gaming stores, but we're always willing to take advice from staff. I had a short discussion with one staffer, and he was extremely knowledgeable about board games. I would have no problem seeking out his, or any other of Bosco's staff, advice on games. Their selection of board, miniatures, and role playing games, is above and beyond most other stores of this type that I've visited. I was very impressed, and nearly overwhelmed. The comics section looked great, and they carry more comic and movie memorabilia than any place I've ever seen. I was also impressed with their sport section, too. We have definitely found our new place to buy games in our new home state. read more

I have been to Bosco's only a handful of times - whenever I am in Anchorage for work I make a point to visit the store for some new comics to read on the flight home and to check out their (respectable) collection of Magic cards. Every time I have been in there the staff has welcomed me as I walked in and made sure I knew where everything was. I live in Seattle where we have several great comic and game stores and Bosco's is certainly in the same league. They have an excellent selection of newer and older comics including some collectible older ones. There are vintage video games, action figures/models, board games, RPGs, DVDs almost every popular CCG you can think of. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Bosco's to anyone looking for that sort of thing in Anchorage. The new store is much nicer than their last one, more organized and more room for all the great stuff they have (to people complaining about Bosco's being disorganized: it's a comic and game shop! They're trying to fit in as much good stuff as they can -- and with all of the new issues and card sets constantly coming in I imagine it can be difficult to keep everything looking "nice.") Also another reviewer noted that they weren't given a good price for MTG cards, recommending eBay instead. If you are selling cards to a store you will always get slightly less than what you would get selling them on eBay; the store is taking the hit if they don't sell, they are stocking the product and they need to make money off of the transaction. I can attest that selling cards on TCG and eBay isn't that lucrative either what with seller's fees (very high) and shipping you are only getting slightly more than what a store would give you (not to mention spending time to sell them in the first place!). I'm not sure what the state of gaming and gaming stores is in Alaska or Anchorage, but it seems that Bosco's is something of a haven for like-minded people. Everyone should support their LCS, and Bosco's is a great one! read more

I am not a huge comic book collector but I was very impressed with the inventory they had and it was very organized. They had a great selection of games and decks. Ahh, Bosco's. What is it about you that keeps me coming back? Oh yeah, your the only gig in town. Oh well, it's not all bad. I would much rather get my monthly fix of minis and D & D products from this quirky unique shop than Barnes and Noble's. Bosco's reminds me of every other comic shop that I have frequented: slightly perturbed shop staff who are oh so wiling to display their superior knowledge of comic or gaming trivia. Or the inevitable look of judgment when you ask about a certain product that apparently isn't in. It's what I've come to expect from every comic/gaming store. I know its cliche but Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons would fit in nicely here. To Bosco's credit they do carry a very wide variety of products and the older guys are much more customer service savvy. Bosco's also sponsors lots of events for the community even though some of the D & D activities have come across very poorly organized. In the end though, Bosco's is not the type of store I want to linger in and just browse. I want to get in, find my books, dice, and then leave. read more

pretty darn good selection of back issues, graphic novels and D&D stuff. we've found some great board games here over the years (Zombies!!!, Cave Troll). customer service is hit or miss. sometimes the guys who are working are the most enthused people I have ever seen and can talk your ear off about practically any comic character. they are always willing to call their other shops if they don't have what you want right there. they'll offer to order it for you if they don't have an item. and they'll pull comics for you if you provide them with a list. other times the person(s) behind the counter know nothing but Manga or sports memorabilia and are just waiting to get some alone time. all in all there's a reason Bosco's is the only comic shop to last over the years. they do what they do pretty well and when they don't they have massive amounts of product to back them up. read more

Look when I go to a shop like this I realize there is a cover charge and meaning for the selection and service I don't expect to pay what I would on line but seriously they aren't far enough off to worry about the $10 I may save waiting a Week for something to arrive. I don't really like going in this location since they moved. The parking lot is ill planned, the store still seems crowded, and there's always too many people here (usually letting their children run wild). They mark the prices way up, a card game I wanted to buy here costs double what it does from the games actual website and the website offers free shipping. Or a video game costs as much as a new one, depending on the game you can buy a console bundle with that game for the same price. When I ask about the prices they insist the prices match the market and try to convince me nobody will have it cheaper. I've proved that even the official sites of some items have it for cheaper and they just shrug it off as "bills to pay, shipping fees, gotta make a profit". Which is understandable to an extent. Usually when I bring things in I get good deals and can quickly trade for a new game console. Here I bought in a 12x12 box overflowing with things and they offered me $4 store credit for the entire box. Not $4 for each item. $4 for the entire box all together. They commented how cool things were and how they could get so much for it, some of the items in the box were from a subscription box and they had those items for sale already for the same amount as the subscription box itself costs. I declined and they at least thanked me for bringing it in and said they appreciated seeing some of those things. read more

Came in and browsed one evening. Lots of nifty things for younger folks and a few of the older comics. A little hard to get at them, though. The boxes were heavy and many titles were hidden in back. Quite a few games, too. They seemed to be doing well there. One thing: I was never asked if I needed help. I don't like pushy salespeople, but they may want to acknowledge someone walking through the store for 25 minutes. read more

Lots of hipster types there.... Thank God I know where to go to find out the intimate details of Babylon 5 in case the internet breaks... Was there the other day and overheard a dude from the Air-Force saying his wife was making him sell his Magic cards since he was getting out and they were planning on buying a house. They offered him an insulting amount and I had to intervene. I offered him my D&D Advanced Dungeons&Dragons Tiamat Dragon still in the original package. He explained that his wife wanted cash towards a house and he wouldn't be able to trade. I asked if I could see the cards so I could give a fair evaluation to what I would be able to offer. I found two of his most valuable cards and carefully switched them with a couple cards I keep on me at all times. I gave him the cards back and told him I needed to go to the bathroom. I quickly left, went home, shaved my head and dyed my eyebrows. I don't think I'll be going back for awhile... read more

Absolutely awful. I've been all across America (and stopped in to quite a few comic stores) and this is by far in the bottom 2 of all time. I've been gaming and collecting comics for 20+ years and between the awful employees (on par with most of Alaska's customer service) and the mess, it's almost impossible to find what you want. Don't even think about showing up on new comic day. The comics aren't ready. Hey guys, try showing up a couple hours before you open on new comic day to get them on the shelf and get the pull lists completed like the rest of the comic store world. They CONSTANTLY miss things on my pull list, and good luck getting them to remove/add anything from your pull list without asking 2-3 times. Disposable income is few and far between, it's time to start trying Bosco's. I absolutely loathe walking into this store, but it's the only comic store worth walking into in Anchorage. read more

I've been a collector of comics all my life and a customer of Bosco's since its inception across the street from their current location. I've been Blessed to visit comic shops across the United States and I have to say that they are consistently in my Top 5 favorites. Changes in management and staffing have occurred here, like in any other retail business, but I have to say for the most part it's been a pleasant experience. While I can't always find what I'm looking for in back issues, the staff is genuinely engaged in helping me find what I'm looking for, or helpful in ordering a copy. The staff always greets me when I come in and Eric takes the time out to talk about what's going on or giving me a tip when I'm searching for an elusive title. Really nice guy. The staff alone would get me to come back. The extensive selection is just gravy on the biscuits. read more
