I wouldn't recommend this company to anybody. I dropped off my PS5 for a repair and was originally told it would take 1-2 months to fix. After about 2 months I was told they would have to wait on parts to diagnose the console. I would call every month from that point and would get the same answer or told they're waiting on more parts for further diagnose's. It's been over a year and still nothing. They don't even reach out to you on status updates. They basically stole my PS5 and never said a word to me since then. Absolute crooks, on top of that, they charge exorbitant prices for retro consoles and games. Don't ever shop here or trust them with your belongings, they're THIEVES!!! read more

These guys stole my Nintendo switch once when we sent it in for repair a few years back. Never returned any of our calls, had to go in after 8 months of no contact and they said they didn't know where it was. Only gave us store credit and not a refund. Waste of time. First when we dropped off the device to be fixed we were told we would receive a call within a few days: that if we chose to have it fixed they would have notified us with a price, if we decided no go some where else $45 fee for canceling, or sell the device to them.. Well, they didn't fix my kids system. Didn't even call us to tell us what was wrong with it; oh except when I called! He told me that he went on vacation and would be calling me the next day with what's going on with the device( which didn't happen)! A month went by! So I just decided to get my kids device back. Pretty pleased with this place. I bought a classic NES to play old school games and stopped by here since the system only came with one controller. Man, if you've ever played Contra you know you need that buddy next to you while you battle evil forces. Inside is filled to the gills with all things gamer. I walked down memory lane looking at the classics, remembering the days of proudly developing a callous on the thumb from the A and B buttons. It's a family run joint and the hours and location make it a convenient option to pop in. Would come again because it seemed to incite a forgotten energy for playing digital games. What I really like about this place is that there isn't a snotty kid, who thinks he's God's gift to gaming, acting like he is doing you a favor, getting off his ass to help you out. I guess that's what happens when you take your business to some huge retailer that treats you like a quick sale. I got a Groupon for 'Video Game Depot' without first going to the store because I was just stoked there was a mom and pop type video game shop in Anchorage. I went in, everything seemed fine at first. Then I asked for a specific product, I was told by the owner that he: "had it, but doesn't sell them individually because they don't make them anymore... maybe if you were a friend or I knew you I would do it..." ok, that by itself isn't too terrible, to an extent I agree that maybe selling a product to someone you don't know when you only have some left makes sense. So I shrugged it off. Then I inquired about an 'off-brand' model of the same thing I asked for. He pulled out the exact same product I have already that I was looking to replace, exact, as in, the exact same company, exact same model, even the color was the same. and the price was exactly double what I'd purchased mine for. Again, ok, so what? specialty shop, you expect a little higher price, whatever, no problem there. The problem came with the next thing he said: "We get these made for us, they don't sell them anywhere, you can only find them here" "but... Mr. Shopkeeper, a month ago I purchased this same exact product on Amazon for half the price" he said "really? no way!" "yep! way!" it got awkwardly quiet, and, to lighten the mood, I quickly changed the subject. Now lets talk about the Groupon, I've got to be honest here I'm not really sure what happened. I picked something small and inexpensive up (since they didn't have what I wanted or, wouldn't sell it to me because I wasn't his bro) I was pretty done with the place at this point, very disappointed and wishing I hadn't bought the Groupon in the first place. I go up to the register and I inform him I have a Groupon and proceed to show him my coupon, this is where I got mad. He started ranting about how he really doesn't make any money on the Groupon deal because Groupon pulls a big chunk of the profit or something and that I would have to buy something more expensive to offset it. I was flabbergasted, first of all, sir, how is this my problem? I saw a Groupon, I bought it, now you as the merchant must honor it. I'm not very good at confrontation so I probably looked like an idiot, but eventually his employee took over and rung me up. At this point I just wanted to be out of there, so awkward, so uncomfortable. I never inquired about store credit or any of that, I was just happy to be gone. Seems like the type of place where if you know these guys and you're all friends its great but if you're a dirty outsider you're treated as such. I'm really amazed at the customer service that Mike provides the few times I've come in already, he is a bit dry in personality like Spock from Star Trek, and everyone likes Spock. I've been in a couple times already and have been honored by his kindness. It's located inside the wonderfully owned Spenard Pawn Shop so it is the anti-gamestop. :-) And that's good, trust me. But this place has been here for a while and it's still somewhat only a local knowledge place to go. I'm here to try and help correct that oversight. :-) He has old NES games and systems, Gameboys', Gameboy color. Gameboy Advance. PSP Vitas. He also has Super Nintendo, N64, Gamecube, Wii and Wii U games and systems. Sega Master System, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Sega 32 bit attachment and Sega Saturn and Dreamcast systems. Also has Atari. Along with the Playstation, PS2, PS3 systems and games, and the still popular Xbox 360 systems an games. And also now when they come in, PS4 and Xbox One games and systems. So just come in and look at the setup he has at least. You will be amazed and store that He even has ole systems like the 3DO. It's a failed system of course, but if you are a true collector. You will be truly happy that you found this place. Like In the words of Yoda, "You will be, you will be...." But instead of a cave on Dagobah, you will be entering a game cave on Spenard. Great selection of old-school games and systems, they even play classic videogame soundtracks in the store. The prices are mostly fair, and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The only caveat is that their current-gen selection is pretty limited, but as that is not their focus I chose not to deduct a star for this. For anyone who enjoys video games, this is Alaska's best kept secret and I want it not to be a secret anymore. I've been coming to see these guys for years whether it was to find new games or to sell some of my old games. Anytime I think of a game from my childhood that I absolutely enjoyed playing, I go over there, and they almost always have it; Even if they don't have it, they've always impressed me how they can find a copy somewhere and have it there in a few days. They have every console I have ever heard of and a few that I didn't know existed until I saw them there. Go there and see if you know of a video gaming console from any country that they don't have there. They were super helpful. Had them check out a wii I bought second hand off facebook. I didnt know it was a gen 2 and didnt play gamecube games but they let me trade it in for a gen 1 that does! Alright, this place immediately gave me the good vibe as I walked in since Castlevania music was playing over the house speakers. The selection is absolutely incredible!!! Tons of old games, NES, Gameboy, SNES, Atari, all the Playstations, and more. The only thing I didn't dig was the overall layout of the store and all the creepy people that walk in still thinking its a pawn shop to pawn their phones for more meth. But they are changing locations soon so that's not really the issue. But sadly, that's the thing keeping me from giving that 5th star is that the games (NES in particular) are all individually wrapped in cellophane which is great if it weren't for the fact you are at least 3ft away from the cabinet and there is a terrible unavoidable glare from the fluorescent lights overhead which make it almost impossible to read the titles. That being said, the staff is friendly after warming them up a little (hey, if you had to deal with meth heads all day you'd be a little off as well), they are delightfully knowledgable, and very accommodating. They are fair, as in a mislabeled price on a game they were still willing to offer me even though the going price is double the mislabel (I left it so the place can hopefully get what its worth for the game). They have extensive experience in the industry to back up any subtle pretentious vibe you may or may not catch. I'd love to live near here to get to know the guys and learn more about these games and the system I love so dearly. Top notch Mike, just update that store layout in the next place! read more

For example today while digging thru their Genesis games I came across a game with an old sticker still on it for $10 when it's valued at $70 today.
